Prologue: The New Avenger

(Y/N)'s POV

"Everyone, I want you all to give a warm welcome to the newest and official addition to the team." My dad, the one and only Tony Stark, starts off dramatically making everyone in the room roll their eyes. We are all just hanging out in the living room at the Avengers Compound which is kind of weird. This is the first time in a while that we've all had free time. It feels good to not have people shooting a deadly blue sky beam into the air. "You all know him and can mildly tolerate him, it's Spiderboy."

"Spiderman!" I hear the voice of the only person I know who is the same age as me making a large smile form on my face. My cheeks begin to heat up when the boy with curly brown hair and a dazzling smile. Our eyes meet and he gives me a small wave which I return meekly. I'm so caught in gazing at him with hearts in my eyes that I almost miss seeing him get elbowed by my dad. "I-I mean I'm really thankful for this opportunity Mr.Stark."

"I thought you didn't want to be an Avenger. You said you wanted to focus on just looking after the little guys." I say making everyone turn their attention towards me. I suddenly feel like I might have said something wrong making me instantly nervous which shows in the way I rub my arm and fidget around a bit. "I-I don't mean to be rude but why did you make this sudden change?"

"Oh, I think I'm ready for the big leagues now. Not to mention, we can do more of our signature team-ups! That's always fun."

"Those are the best." I completely ignore everyone else in the room and just stare at Peter with a smile that is probably creepy looking but I don't care. "It's always fun hanging out with you, Pete."

"Uh, yeah." He scratches the back of his neck and gives me a bashful smile that compliments his personality perfectly. "I love hanging out with you. I always think about you, I mean I always think about our missions."

"Yeah, I do too."

"You two do realize you're having a public conversation, so you might want to cool it with the flirting." Sam says while making kissing noises which causes both of us to hang our heads in shame but doesn't stop me from flipping him off. "Can we get back to watching this cheesy show's teen romance instead of these two."

"You're just jealous that a 16-year-old is more likely to get a girlfriend before you ever do, Sam." Natasha says sarcastically making Peter and I both chuckle at her sass.

"No daughter of mine will be dating as long as I live!" My dad says making me pinch the bridge of my nose as he continues to do his job of embarrassing me to death. He glares at Peter who looks at me concerned. "She will remain a virgin for as long as Steve has, you got that Parker?"

"I think that this relationship is what you mortals call 'couple goals'," Thor says ignoring my dad with a large smile completely unaware of how embarrassing this is for the both of us. "I am looking forward to the wedding. I will gladly be the man of spiders 'best man' too!"

"We are not getting married!" I burst out embarrassed. Although it would be nice if one day, Peter and I were to ... Wait no! Stop thinking that (Y/N)! You will die alone with a thousand cats. "Can we just continue talking about how Peter is a new member of the Avengers!? This is a time of celebration, not humiliation!"

"I think it's a great idea to have Peter on this team. He's got a good heart and his powers are very impressive." Steve stands up and pats Peter on the shoulder making Peter's smile grow. I can tell that he is trying his best to not to fanboy at the fact that Captain America just complimented him. It's hard to suppress my grin at how cute he is. "Although you're still a kid, are you sure you want to do something as dangerous as become an Avenger?"

"I'm positive." He looks at me the entire time he says that making my heart flutter and my mind wondering why he was looking at me but I'm not complaining. "I've thought about this a lot and I know this is what I want to do."

"Great!" My dad says before I can respond. He gives me a look that basically says he knows about my feelings towards Peter and that he will never let anything happen. "Now, we have to work on getting you familiar with all the inside jokes."

"Oh god no." We all say at once knowing how much time that will take.

"Fine, but you guys are no fun." Dad pouts making me shake my head at him but also let my smile grow. "(Y/N), why don't you show Peter around the compound?"

"Yes!" I say all too quickly making everyone give me a knowing smirk. I feel even more embarrassed than I already am and hang my head low as I think of ways to be 'cool'. I can be cool. I'm like the definition of cool. "I mean I guess I have time in my totally busy and totally real schedule to give Peter a small tour."

Smooth.

"Cool," Peter says as he rubs the back of his neck in that cute little way that he always does. We both smile at each other for a long time making someone, most likely Sam, clear their throat and bring us both out of our trance. Our eyes widen and Peter lets out a small cough trying to brush away the awkward atmosphere. "Let's get this tour started."

"Alright."

I'm so grateful when we leave the room and be alone with Peter even though I know everyone in that room is probably gossiping about us. I lead Peter towards the most important place in the compound, the kitchen. We walk in silence as I overthink about possible topics for us to discuss to get closer.

"Whoa, this is the kitchen!?" Peter says completely amazed. To say the kitchen was large would be an understatement. There are at least five different fridges and so many stoves and ovens. I can still hear my dad saying 'go big or go home' when he was designing the kitchen. "I don't even think restaurants have kitchens this big!"

"My dad designed it with the help of the same people who originally designed the old Avengers tower." I explained making him freak out even more. I find it so cute how he gets so excited over something that was basically normal for me. "Earth's best heroes need the best kitchen is something he said trying to explain how he spent millions of dollars on this single room, but we all know that he just wanted to show off."

"You guys are really close, aren't you?" He says making me tilt my head to the side confused. He senses my confusion and nervously tries to explain what he meant. "I mean you and Mr.Stark are really close."

"He's my dad, of course we're close." I chuckle lightly making him smile. "I'm close with all the Avengers. It's like a giant family here even though we all drive each other crazy."

"That sounds nice."

"Yeah, it is. One day you'll see them the same way." I say with a genuine smile. I really am grateful to be apart of the Avengers even though I almost died twice this week and it is very easy to lose someone you love. Wow, I just went from happy to worried in five seconds, good job brain. "Okay, enough of this cheesy family stuff. Time to tell you about the food rules."

"Food rules?"

"Yes, they are very important. If you don't follow these rules then you will be killed by one of us. Most likely Thor or Bucky."

"Oh..." He says now slightly terrified as he should be. No one should mess with anyone's food especially if they are a god or an assassin. "Okay, so what are the rules?"

"All the Poptarts belong to Thor. If you even lay a hand on them you will be electrocuted, learned that the tough way." I said recalling the time I tried to have a peaceful breakfast only to feel the might of Mjolnir. "If you touch any of the plums, Bucky will show you some torture techniques that he learned from his time in Hydra."

"Noted." He says with a small laugh. "Anything else I should be aware of?"

"Well, if you want my dad to do something for you just buy him shawarma and he'll basically be your puppet. The same is with Steve but with apple pie because he's an all American boy like that." I try to think about any other things to worn Peter about that involves food when something comes to mind. Something very important. "And if Nat offers you food, pretend to eat it but don't ever let it touch you."

"Why?"

"It's poisonous." I say shuddering as I remember the time I ate the soup she made me when I was sick. It made me feel even worse and made me wish for death. "I would rather she tried to murder me instead of cook for me."

"Why do I feel I am more likely to be killed by one of the Avengers instead of on a mission?" He jokes slightly making me laugh.

"This is only the kitchen, Pete." He smiles at me when I use the nickname. He always hates it when his friend Ned calls him that but for some reason he seems to like it when I call him that. "May we continue the tour?"

"We may."

We begin to walk throughout the compound and I show him every single room only for him to fanboy every single time. I really hope he grows out of this phase but I also don't considering how cute his expression of pure excitement is. We laugh and tease each other to the point where the once awkward atmosphere is long gone. We bump into each other a lot and our hands sometime touch making both of us smile and makes Peter's cheeks turn as red as a tomato.

"So, I have a question to ask you and it's completely okay if you want to say no." He says as he stops in the middle of one of the many hallways in the compound. I watch him fiddle with his fingers and look everywhere but at me. "I don't want you to hate me or anything. I don't even know why I'm asking this when I already know the answer-"

"Pete."

"This is just a stupid mistake and I am going to grow old and lonely and have a bunch of cats as my only companions-"

"Peter..."

"Or maybe dogs instead of cats. I saw a really cute dog the other day and it just reminded me of you because it was so cute and friendly. The only difference is that you wouldn't lick my face not that I would mind much if you did, wait that sounds wrong. I mean there's more differences because you're a human and it was a dog. Did I just insult you? I ruined another thing-"

"PETER!" I yell cutting off his rant and making him look up at me with puppy dog eyes that are filled with worry. I feel bad for yelling at him but if I didn't I would never hear what he wanted to ask me. I work up the courage to grab his hands and look him in the eye. I hear his breathing grow uneven and his beautiful brown eyes go wide as he looks down at our connected hands before looking back into my eyes. "What do you want to ask me?"

"Do you want to go on a date with me?" He says so quickly that I almost don't hear him. I feel my heart skip a beat when I realize what he just said. Peter Parker the perfect boy that could do no wrong wants to go out with me? I have to be dreaming. "I mean you don't have to if you don't want to-"

"Peter." He's going to do the whole nervous rant thing again, isn't he?

"I mean it's the 21st century, a woman can choose to do whatever she wants without a man telling her. Isn't that amazing? Girl power, right?"

"Peter..." This is going to take a while.

"Unless you don't identify as a girl then I just made a very rude assumption that is very offensive and I should probably just leave now before I offend you more. I didn't mean to be rude. I understand that you were born that way. Or maybe you just don't like guys and I never had a chance for a whole different reason-"

"PETER PARKER!"

"Ah, I offended you! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to be a jerk!"

"I would love to go out on a date with you." I say with a small smile as his head jerks up to look at me with wide eyes. His smile grows when he sees that I am not messing with him and that I actually mean that. "How about this Friday?"

"Friday? I can do Friday. I can do any day of the week if you wanted me to because you know I'm always there for you-"

"Peter can you please stop with the rambling. It was cute the first time but now it's just getting old." I chuckle lightly at how nervous he is. "I don't understand why you were so nervous. Any girl would love to go out with you."

"Yeah but you're not just any girl which is why I'm shocked that you said yes to me." He explains as his thumb rubs my knuckles. "You're (Y/N) Stark! An awesome scientist by day and superhero that kicks butt by night."

"Yeah, and I am also the same (Y/N) Stark that has had a crush on you the moment I saw you." I confess to him making his eyes almost bulge out of his head. "I just never thought you would feel the same and I never thought that you would ask me out in a weird yet adorable way."

"I may have been a bit nervous."

"Really? I never would've noticed."

We both laugh at my sarcastic response but after a few minutes the laughter dies down leaving us in complete silence. This silence is not the usual awkward atmosphere that usually engulfs us but instead a more comforting silence that makes me move closer towards him. I move my hand to wrap around his neck and he moves his hands to cup my cheeks.

He's going to kiss me and it takes all the restraint I have to not freak out at the moment. Our lips are close to touching and I close my eyes as I wait for the kiss that I've been anticipating for a very long time. We are so close but it's just my luck that FRIDAY had to interrupt us.

"Ms.Stark and Mr.Parker, all of the Avengers are assembling in the conference room." I curse at the A.I. for making us move away from each other. We take our hands off of each other and give each other a look of regret and mild annoyance. "Mr.Stark wants you both there in five minutes."

"Tell him we'll be there soon." I say reluctantly as I give Peter a sad look. I really did wish the world could handle itself for five seconds but you don't exactly get a chance of relaxation when you are apart of earth's mightiest heroes. "We'll continue where we left off when we get back and we could also plan our date while we're at it."

"Sounds good." He smiles at me as we both walk towards the elevator. "I bet I could take out more bad guys and make better references than you."

"Prepare to lose that bet, Spiderboy." I give him a playful glare as we both step into the elevator and descend to the floor the conference room is on.

"It's Spiderman! Why does everyone get that messed up!?"

I laugh as he glares at me. I press a kiss to his cheek making his glare soften and also making him stutter nervously which only causes more giggles to leave my mouth. Something tells me that missions will be a whole less boring with Peter on the team.
