Chapter Eight: Crime and Punishment

Sam and Dean approached the front door. For a split second, Dean wanted to make sure that none of his adopted family members were home, but when he looked out on the street, he saw their cars.

"Listen to me Sam," Dean said. "Whatever you hear or see, do nothing."

"Why not?" Sam asked. "Dean, if they're abusing you, then I have to do something about it. They're two of the people we need to take into custody."

"No!" Dean yelled. "I'm being serious. I only say that because things would only get worse, promise me?" Sam was about to argue when Dean gave him the evil eye, causing him to go silent. Taking a deep breath, Dean walked over to the door and pushed it open. He stepped inside just as Crowley and Ruby stepped out from two ends of the house. The minute that Dean saw the disappointed look on their faces, he knew he was done for.

"I see you've come home, Dean," Ruby said. "And you brought your FBI friend, really?"

"I only did it because we have to work together to get that Pearl back." Dean responded.

"I'll just head on up to the bathroom," Sam said, forcing himself to get out of the picture. "Where is it?"

"Upstairs to the right," Crowley said instantly. Sam nodded and made his way upstairs. With Sam out of the picture for a few minutes, Crowley turned toward Dean. "Your mother tells me you lost the pearl? Is this true?" Dean remained silent and crossed his arms before leaning against the wall. "Answer the question!"

"Yes!" Dean yelled. "I lost the damn pearl, okay? In fact, it was way worse than I thought. Bela has it now and if it's not retrieved, things could go from bad to worse!"

"Unbelievable!" Ruby yelled. "We send you to do one job and you bring back an FBI agent?!"

"I didn't think he'd come with me!" Dean yelled back, his voice rising over hers.

"I'll deal with him, honey. You see how our visitor is doing?" Crowley said. Ruby nodded her head before grabbing Dean by the ear and whispering into it.

"You think I'll let this slide? You have one thing coming." Ruby let go of Dean and walked upstairs, leaving Dean alone with Crowley the worst one between his adopted family. Crowley and Dean locked eyes as Crowley made his way over to a poker that was just heated from the chimney. Dean's eyes widened as he knew where this was about to head.

"What are you doing.." Dean said, his voice breaking a little. "I told you it was an honest mistake!"

"An honest mistake? This is the sixth or seventh time you let Bela win!" Crowley said. "The last time a famous painting was stolen from right under your nose!" Crowley grabbed Dean by the arm, as Dean struggled to pull his arm away but to no avail, Crowley dragged Dean out the back and toward the forest still with the poker in his hand he let go of Dean's hand. "Don't fight back son, you know this punishment now hold out your arm."

"You can't do it with Sam in the house," Dean warned. "He'll see."

"Why do you think I brought you out to the forest, you dumbass?" Crowley said. "Now hold out your arm. I will not say it again." Scared but not willing to argue, Dean held out his arm just as Crowley pressed the hot poker to his arm. Dean flinched. The smoke that appeared from his arm had appeared, bringing it back to when he was fifteen years old.

Dean failed to steal something from the store, which caused him a lot of pain by the time he, Ruby, and Crowley got home. At that point, he knew the two were professional con artists and thieves. Dean did not want to go down that path, but now it was hard for him to stray away from that, considering the reasons behind it.

"You failed to steal that diamond, Dean." Ruby said.

"I didn't want to steal," Dean responded. "You'll get tossed in jail for that."

"You only get tossed in jail if you get caught." Crowley answered.

"I don't fucking care, I will not steal!" Dean yelled, forcing Ruby to slap Dean in the face. Dean flinched and rubbed his cheek, which was now turning red. He tried to keep from crying, but the tears would not stop appearing. Crowley rolled his eyes and grabbed Dean by the arm as he dragged him up to his room and shoved him in the room.

The pain subsided as Dean pulled his arm away and rubbed it. Crowley smirked and tossed the poker into the forest before turning right back around to Dean. "Now don't you dare fail us again."

"I won't..." Dean said even though he was still in pain from the entire situation.

Rather than going to the bathroom, Sam checked out the house. Anything that could point to something pertaining to him or to Dean. He walked down the hall and arrived at a room with a keep out sign on it. His assumption would be that it belonged to Dean. He pushed the door open and noticed that Dean had guns of different types hanging on the wall. He searched the room until his eyes landed on a locket with a symbol on it. It was hanging on a hook against the wall. He walked over to it and picked it up before reading the inscription. It had the same name as his. At first, Sam was completely unsure about how Dean just so had the necklace with the same name as the college. Suddenly, however, a thought occurred to him and he pulled out his phone and called his partner.

"Hello?" Sarah said on the other end. "Thank God! Sam, you're okay! Where the hell are you?"

"Don't worry about it right now, but I need you to look something up."

"What is it?"

"Twenty-Four yeas ago, I'd like you to look up a list of missing persons, search for Dean Winchester," he continued. "I know it sounds crazy, but I think he may be my brother."

"But how can you be sure of that?" Sarah asked in surprise. "Sam, you don't even remember what happened all those years ago."

"Yeah, I know, I was an infant, but can you please look up anything pertaining to Dean? Like if he had any siblings, he said that he did but didn't give me a name," Sam kept going. "What I want you to do as soon as you find it, age the infant up see what comes of it, then let me know."

"Alright, even though I don't think this is going to work, but please be careful."

"Don't worry I will." Sam said and hung up the phone. He reached over and grabbed the necklace.

"I guess you don't need to be let in?" a voice said from behind him. Quickly thinking, Sam placed the necklace in his pocket and turned around to find Ruby leaning against the door frame. "You know Dean has a sign on his door that says keep out, right?"

"From the looks of it, I guess that's because you of you and your husband." Sam responded.

"What are you trying to say?" Ruby asked.

"I'm saying that you and Crowley have been abusing him," Sam retorted. "And don't you dare say that you weren't I'm an agent, so I know exactly what you do?"

"Relax, I will do nothing to him, of course. I'd like to know why you arrested him."

"Because I needed to find you so I could arrest you." Sam said.

"Funny, since you've been here the entire time and haven't made an arrest once." Ruby answered. "And why is that?"

"We needed to find you so we could figure out where Bela Talbot is hiding," Sam continued. "She's the one who has the pearl now and I don't know your intentions to stealing that damn pearl but here intentions are way darker. So either you help us, or I'll arrest you and your husband here and now for abuse, tampering with evidence, and stealing."

"Fine, but there will be more to it than what you know."
