At school I couldn't concentrate. In gym I was so distracted that I got hit in the face with a soccer ball.
"Oh my god Maggie! I'm so sorry!!!" Jake called running over. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine" I said rubbing my face.
Other than Maddie, Jake was the only one who would notice if I dropped off the face of the earth. He is my best friend in the whole world. As long as I've known him he's never had a girlfriend, which is a suprise because he's not bad looking. He has a goofy grin that just melts girls hearts and he's tall and bleach blond. I've never asked him about it but I guess he's just waiting for the right one or something.
"You don't look so good, are you sure you're okay?" He asked.
"Yeah Jake, just having a rough day I guess" I said quietly.
"Mom driving you nuts again?" He asked.
At this point we were just standing in the corner of the gym and Mr. Bogster was yelling at us to get back in the game.
"We'll talk later okay?" I said quickly.
"Okay" he grinned.

"Okay go get changed" the teacher called ten minutes before the end of class.
Finally I thought I don't know how much more of this I can take.
"Ugh why does that freak have to be in our class?" Della was saying "All she does is read those stupid kids books"
I ran down to the locker rooms and hid in one of the stalls. I just need to get out of this stupid town. I hate it here so much. Then the waterworks started. I don't know how long I was down there, but the next thing I heard was a voice.
"Maggie?"
"Jake? What are you doing down here? You're going to get yourself into trouble!"
"I heard what Della said, are you okay?"
"Yeah I'll be alright. Listen, since you're down here can you grab my gym bag and throw it in here please?"
"Sure, but are you sure you're okay?"
"Yeah"
"You wanna go to Shempies and grab some ice ream after school?" He asked as he slid my bag under the door.
"I would but I have to take Maddie home."
"Bring her along. The more the merrier"
"Thanks Jake, okay. Now you need to get out of here before someone sees."
"Okay see you at lunch!" I just heard him say as the bell rang.
