5 days until the attack, and I've been training the demigods. Atlas had just arrived, and was trying to help, but all the campers refused to listen to him, so he was just grumbling to the side, reviewing the plans, and practicing by himself.
"Hello, sir, how are you doing?" I asked, approaching him. He jumped slightly, sighing.
"Enough with the formalities, I am no longer your teacher." Atlas smiled lightly, and I smiled as well.
"That doesn't mean I can't respect you, does it? And I asked you a question. I know people here don't like you much." I said sympathetically. He sighed, looking at the crowd of training demigods.
"Or at all. I deserve it, I know that much. I just wish they could put that to the side for the next few days, until this war is over." Atlas said, continuing to review the battle plans.
"I can fix that." I smirked, and he went wide eyes.
"What?" He asked, but I turned and faced the crowd.
"Everybody, freeze!" I shouted, and they instantly stopped what they were doing, looking at me carefully. Ah, just like I like it. "You all will listen to Atlas if he gives an order! I do not care if you have bad blood with him, you will listen to him, because he is helping me lead this war!" I shouted, and everyone flinched.
"Oh, and who put you in charge?" I heard someone say, but they were hiding, male, more than likely said that.
"Zeus, and the entire Olympian council, and myself. You all run with your tails tucked between your legs! It sucks, it really does, I speak from experience. Ask Atlas yourself if your curious. But, if I have to repeat myself again, you will regret ignoring my warnings!" I shouted, smirking when I mentioned the tail tucked.
"Perseus, did you really have to do that?" Atlas asked with a raised eyebrow. He looked like a teenage girl that just got embarrassed by her dad or something, it was amusing.
"Yes, sir. You deserve more respect than you are receiving." I said, looking at Atlas, and he smiled to himself. He smiles a lot to myself. I don't do that much anymore, or at all.
"Perseus, sir, I know I'm young, and naive, but I want to train the ways you did." A kid said, approaching me. I looked at him in shock. "And if that means being trained by Atlas, I will gladly take the opportunity." He said, bowing his head. I smirked, looking at Atlas.
"Please, do not call me sir, it makes me feel old." I joked slightly, smiling softly, and this made the kid smile. He looked about 14 years of age. "But, seriously, do you know how I was trained?" I asked, controlling my body to shrink to his height, and he looked at me in bewilderment.
"Beyond your limits as a human, and demigod." He said quietly, and I smiled.
"Yes, that is true, I pushed my body until it couldn't move, but we only have five days." I said, growing back to my preferred height. He nodded, and looked down.
"Yeah, do you think we'll be able to win this war?" He asked, hopelessly, and that made me frown.
"I do not know. I cannot tell you. Atlas, sir, you will be personally training him with his fighting skill and strength. Understood?" I ordered, and Atlas nodded, and the kid looked determined.
"Kid, What is your name?" Atlas asked him, and the kid chuckled to himself.
"My name is Tyler. I'm the son of Hermes." He said, and bowed to Atlas.
"Tyler, why do you want to train with me?" Atlas asked seriously, and Tyler pondered this.
"Because I want to be useful in this war, I don't want to sit still while my friends and family die." He said, but I knew that wasn't all, and so I gave him a look, and he sighed. "And I want to fix the mistake Luke had made all those years ago. He tried to kill Percy, and now I want to make things better." He said, looking down, I nodded.
"Thank you, you are doing your cabin a favour, the Hermes cabin took a small hit in its reputation after Luke betrayed Olympus." I nodded. "Atlas, start training him, but make sure he's alright enough to battle in the war, something tells me he's going to be a big part of it." I said the end quietly. Tyler shouldn't know, because chances are I'm right.
"Of course, Perseus, your gut is usually right." Atlas said grimly, walking away with Tyler. I sighed, correcting stances and teaching tricks. I'm glad we got ourselves as many monster allies as we did, we're in great danger.
"Chiron! Can we discuss something?" I asked, jogging up to him. He gave me a confused look, and then nodded, waving me to follow him. I was shocked when he led me to the beach.
"I've been needing to speak to you about something as well." Chiron said, noticing how I stayed a safe distance from the water. It's not that I'm afraid of it or Poseidon or anything, I just don't trust it.
"What do you need to speak about?" I asked curiously, standing anxiously.
"About your time in Tartarus, you've clearly changed more than imaginable. You still distance yourself from your friends." Chiron addressed I shrugged.
"Most aren't my friends. The only exceptions are Nico, Malcolm and Grover. I don't need friends or what's the word? Family." I said lightly, avoiding eye contact.
"You don't allow yourself to get close to anyone, nor let anyone close to you." He said, giving me a worried look.
"Last time I was close with anyone, they all betrayed me! Friendships and relationships only get you hurt! For someone much older than me, you should have realized that." I scoffed.
"I have, Perseus, many times. I've seen many of the ones I've loved die, I've had students turn to enemy's, I've had enemy's turn to friends." Chiron said, lightly shifting his hooves.
"Then how do you trust so easily?" I asked curiously.
"Because I have faith, I trust that the ones I care for will stay by my side. I've also had students stay by my side, and that was enough to keep me from bitterness." He said wisely.
"Faith kept you so rooted to your values?"
"Faith, love and hope. You still have friends on your side." Chiron smiled, but I couldn't bring myself to. I don't smile often.
"That's not enough for me, Chiron. I've spent hundreds of years in Tartarus, most of the friendships I've had, I don't remember. Thalia was right, I did forcefully shove memories back, I thought it was because they were holding me back but they were keeping me sane." I sighed, but I wasn't upset, I don't feel as much emotion, I can't bring myself to care enough.
"But now you can make new memories, have a new family, marry, have kids." He smiled fondly.
"I'm going back to Tartarus after the war is done." I said as if there were no other decision. He looked at me in absolute surprise.
"Why would you go back? The place is meant for monsters?!" He asked in shock.
"It's where I belong. I should be in Tartarus with the hellhounds, I'm their king, I can't abandon them." I said finally.
