Chapter 5: Yes, We're Brothers
Mathew and Alfred began sharing stories of their childhoods as soon as the shock had mostly worn off. The two were simply amazed by the fact that they were brothers, who wouldn't be? Mathew was espically amazed. He'd always wanted a brother, someone to mess with, to have a bond with. To have someone who wouldn't ignore him, like most people. Mathew couldn't stop smiling, and Alfred couldn't stop talking.
A few hours later, Gilbert and Antonio could be heard coming to their cabin, yelling the whole way about something neither Alfred nor Mathew could understand. Mathew immediately jumped up and out the cabin when he realized who's voices those were, leaving Alfred to slowly exit the cabin with a confused look.
"Gil! Toni!" Mathew shouted, catching the attention of the Spaniard and German. Gilbert was the first to react, running at Mathew and pulling him into a bear hug. Antonio rolled his eyes with a laugh, clapping Mathew's back.

Alfred realized with a start that those were Mathew's ex-cabin mates, and that the tall albino hugging his brother was the same guy he had almost seen kiss Mathew. He clenched his fists, suddenly feeling protective over Mathew. "Ahem." Alfred cleared his throat from the porch of the cabin, his eyebrow raised questioningly. Mathew turned to face Alfred, face red. His friends turned as well, a smirk on the albino, who's eyes were still on Mathew, and a cheerful smile on the Spaniard, who simply waved excitedly. "¡Hola! I'm Antonio! Glad to see you and Mattie haven't killed eachother yet!"
Alfred couldn't help but chuckle at Antonio's cheerfulness. "Hey. Yeah, I guess I am too." Alfred looked at Mathew, who's blush was slowly starting to fade. "You gonna tell 'em, Mattie?" Alfred asked. Mathew nodded, then gestured for his friends to enter the cabin. Alfred returned to his spot on his bed, keeping his eyes on Gilbert. "Go ahead, Matt."

Mathew took a deep breath. "Well, uhm, Alfred and I, we, well..." He struggled to find the words, then sighed with defeat. "AlfredandIfoundoutthatwe'reactuallybrothers!" Antonio looked lost, and Gilbert looked like he was about to laugh. "Slow down there, turbo! I didn't catch a single word!" Mathew sighed again.
"Alfred and I found out that we're actually brothers?" Gil stopped laughing, and Toni wore a surprised look.
"Y-you, and and him? Brothers? Like, actual brothers?" Toni mumbled, clearly shocked. Mathew nodded, and Alfred chuckled from across the room. "Yup!"
Gilbert looked from Mathew to Alfred, comparing the two. "Well, I'll be damned. I just...how did you guys find that out?"
Alfred and Mathew pulled their photos out, showing Toni and Gil. The duo gasped, their eyes wide.
"Holy..." muttered Antonio.
"Scheiße!" finished Gilbert.
"Uh, y-yeah...Al and I are, uh, brothers?" Mathew said nervously. Antonio and Gilbert looked at eachother, then burst out laughing.
"Oh mein Gott! I can't believe it!" Gilbert laughed, clutching his stomach.
"You guys are the last people I would have expected to be hermanos!"
Alfred and Mathew looked at eachother, they're eyebrows raised. The two laughing eventually calmed down, catching their breath. "So, how did you guys find out?"
~~~~~
"Well, Mattie and I just sort of started talking, and, well, we found out?" Alfred shrugged. Everything had happened so fast, he couldn't really explain how the truth came out.
"This is ridiculous, I mean, you guys are so... different!" Antonio rubbed the back of his neck, looking between the two.
"We aren't that different!" Alfred and Mathew replied in unison.
Gilbert and Antonio raised their eyebrows. "And they're already saying stuff at the same time." Gilbert laughed. "Well, not that this isn't nice and all, but I'm starved," Gilbert said as he stood up, "To the mess hall!" He grabbed Mathew's hand and ran out of the cabin, Antonio following behind them.
Alfred sat down with a sigh, just as Ivan and Raivis walked in. "Knock knock?" asked Ivan as he entered.
"Ah, hey guys!" Alfred replied with a smile.
"So, I see you and your Canadian friend have not done the killing of eachother yet?" Ivan said with a grin as he sat down.
"Oh, uh, about that..." Alfred's voice trailed off.
Raivis's eyes widened. "D-don't tell me you, like, fell for him?" he asked.
Alfred's eyes widened in disgust at the thought. "Ew, no, dude! I found out he's my brother!"
Ivan and Raivis fell silent, Ivan out of shock, and Raivis out of embarrassment.
"O-oh..." Raivis muttered.
"That's fantastic! Oh, I have always wanting a brother!" Ivan said with a cheerful smile. Alfred grinned, "Yeah, me too."
********************************
Later that night, Mathew and Alfred lay in their beds, now pushed so that they were next to eachother. "Alfred...what's dad like?" Mathew turned on his side to look at Alfred with an expectant look. He'd heard stories of his dad, sure, but he wanted to know his personality. What he was like in the mornings, how he liked his tea, what his favourite book was, what kinds of movies he liked to watch.
"Well, uh...I guess he's...uptight. No, that's a bad way to put it..." Alfred fell silent, seeming to put his thoughts together. "He, he cares alot. Like...he'll notice when I'm sad, or when I seem excited even though I haven't said anything. He also gets mad easily, though. One time, I went to the store to get some more tea since we ran out. On the way back, I took a break and sat down on a bench by the man made lake near my house. I went to get my phone to check the time, and knocked the tea into the lake! Oh man, he was so mad when I told him. He kept ranting about how it was a waste of perfectly good tea." Alfred and Mathew laughed.
"He loves to drink his tea by the fireplace," Alfred continued, "he'll have some book in his lap, but he always looks deep in thought. Sometimes he'll chuckle quietly to himself. I guess he thinks about his past." Alfred shrugged. "What's papa like?"
Mathew smiled instantly. "Well, he loves the vineyard. He wakes up early in the morning, and just walks around. He always looks happiest like that, walking up and down the rows of grapes. And he never ignores me. I know, that doesn't seem like an important thing, but I'm just so quiet and shy, it's easy for people to forget that I'm even there. But Papa never does. He's so caring...one time, when i was little, I was on the tire swing he had put up in the backyard, and fell off of it. He completely lost his cool. He ran to where i was, asking if I was okay, checked for bruises, picked me up and carried me back into the house while hugging me tightly, all while rambling about 'how dare he let his Mathieu fall down'," Mathew mimicked his papa's voice in a cheesy french accent.
Once again, the brothers were laughing.
"He's really sweet...but he has someone new like, every month. I never really understood. But they're never really serious."
~~~~~
"Dad's never had anyone around, like, ever. Unless he's been dating someone behind my back, which I doubt, haha! But yeah, he just, never got back into the game, I guess." Alfred shrugged, realizing that his father never dated.
Never met someone.
Never fell for someone.
Alfred could only assume that he had just never been able to fall for someone after Mathew's dad. He figured that his father had just loved his papa just that much.
"I wish I could meet dad.." Mathew muttered, looking at the ceiling.
"I wish I could meet Papa..." Alfred whispered in reply. Suddenly, his eyes lit up. Alfred sat up straight quickly, scaring Mathew.
"Matt? I have an idea..."
