The woods
As a kid there were always stories about the woods behind my house. Of course as a teenager I figured they were just that, stories not facts. People, mostly the elders in the town, said there was a little girl by the name of Annette. Apparently, Annette died at the hands of her jealous brother in 1869. She has black hair and green eyes. They say her eyes were originally brown but turned green as a ghost because she was killed out of jealousy. I call bullshit, but being the thrill seeker teen I was I thought why not check it out.
Now I have been in the woods before but only during the day. I decided to bring my two friends, Justin and Mark. They were both skeptics like me so there were no doubts of going in. At around 3 am we grabbed flashlights and headed out. To anyone who didn't know the stories the woods would seem like something out of a fairy tale. The trees were bent and created a sort of tunnel. All kinds of flowers grew there. We stood at the opening of the clearing. "Is this a good idea?" Justin asked. I nodded not being able to open my mouth. I had this bad feeling that made me want to be sick, but I couldn't back down. The stories weren't real, besides I had watched disturbing videos and all the Saw movies. How scary could a little girl be?
We turned our flashlights on and walked in silence. Every sound made all of us whip our heads around. We walked through the woods without any problems. I saw the end of the clearing where the school was. I smirked, I knew that it was all bullshit. Suddenly we heard a giggle behind us. We spun around to see nothing. Laughing to myself for being so silly we turned to the school again, where right in front of us was a little girl who looked around 10. Her hair was as black as a ravens wing and bright green glowing eyes. My heart must of stopped because I stopped breathing. She giggled and smirked. I felt someone pull on my arm. I wasn't sure who it was but I didn't care. We ran back to my house. I didn't breathe properly till I was locked in my room. We slumped against my bed and I had the urge to look out the window. Standing directly at my window was Annette. I screamed and I heard a giggle and her whisper, Don't come back. That was enough for me. I never did go back, I never took a step into the backyard again.
I eventually moved for college and had a family. We moved back to my family home when my parents died. The day I walked into the backyard for the first time in 10 years I saw a flash of black and heard, You don't listen do you?
