Twenty Two

Klaus was the villain in the last one and nobody ever thought it was him here but okay.

"We have an announcement."
Matt had been going to class a lot more since the whole murder thing blew over. He mostly did it so Matthew would go, but he still learned a lot. It was getting close to the end of the year when the three people in lab coats walked into the classroom, serious expressions on their faces.
The other students all looked up, sitting at attention.
"We've figured out a way to send the second players back to their own world."
"What?? Seriously??" Flavio looked exited. "We can finally...we can..."
"There's a lot of people we need to get over so we're setting up ports wherever we can."
"Wait...how are you doing this?" Arthur asked.
"It's like a teleport type of device." One of the scientists explained.
"So we just walk in and...go...?"
"Yes."
There was a lot of cheering in the classroom. Flavio hugged Andres, who grimaced and tried to push him away. Oliver kissed François who smacked him, and Lutz took Luciano's hand without him pulling away. Klaus nodded softly, which was probably how he showed happiness. The lecture ended early that day and soon everyone had gathered in the dorm's common room to celebrate.
Matt stood in the corner with a beer in his hand, wondering how he got here and what he was going to do when he left. They were being sent back in a week, which meant he wouldn't see Matthew after that. He doubted universities would take him at this rate, but he could go back and get his GED.
And then what? With his mother and Allen gone, he would be living in the house alone. He could sell it and have some extra money to rent out a place for a while until he got a part time job to work at while he tried getting into college. He didn't know what for yet. Maybe he could be a hockey coach? Or he could be a cop. Yeah. A Mountie.
"Hey," Matthew walked over to Matt, carrying a half empty beer in one hand.
"Sup."
"So...a week from today..."
"Yep."
Matt's eyes scanned the room. He could see everybody dancing to the rock music playing from the stereo that Liam had brought down. Nigel was hiding under the sofa because he saw a spider, Francis was flirting with Arthur and Oliver was flirting with François.
Currently, Klaus was standing in the opposite corner from Matt, looking uncomfortable as Lutz flirted with Luciano next to him.
"Hey, Matthew?"
"Yeah?"
"If you were compatible with Gilbert...do you think I would be with Klaus?"
"Why? You got a crush or something?"
"No!" Matt insisted, face turning red. "It's just...I mean...if we would work out...that would be cool..."
"It's hard to say. I mean...logically you would think that. Oliver and François are just as compatible as Francis and Arthur and the same goes for Luciano and Lutz and Feli and Ludwig."
"So...yes?"
"But Flavio and Allen were compatible but Alfred and Lovino...not so much."
"So...no...?"
"I have no clue. Do you know sign language?"
"No..."
"Well, you'd better learn it if you want to try to make it work..."
"I'm...I'm gonna go talk to him..." Matt decided. Oh god. What was he thinking?
"I'm rooting for ya."
Matt walked across the room, mentally hitting himself. He had no idea how to read sign language or how to learn. He had heard it was easy but he didn't know for sure.
"Hey...uh..."
Klaus looked up at him expectantly. He could feel himself sweating.
"Uh...I don't really know sign language and I'm not good at carrying a conversation on my own...but I was thinking...Matthew and Gilbert...they worked...so..." Matt wanted to jump out the window.
Klaus held up one finger, reaching into his pocket.
Oh god. He had come off as creepy and now Klaus was going to taser him.
But the Prussian didn't pull out a weapon. He pulled out a phone.
He typed on it before holding it up for Matt to see.
"Coffee? Tomorrow?"
"Oh...uh...yeah!! That works!"
Klaus smiled softly.
He couldn't even talk and he was still smoother than Matt. This was a bad idea.
