Chapter One

Geek. Dork. Nerd. I guess you could say that there are a lot of words that you could use to describe me if you took the time to do so. If you don't know who I am, then you don't look hard enough. I'm the kid sitting in the corner of every conversation, reading a nature book or a rocketship manual. I have the power and curse to be invisible. People don't even notice that I'm in the same room as them, even if I'm just inches away. Don't ask me how that works. It makes zero sense!

I'm not the only "invisible" person in the whole entire school either. My friend Randi is too. Her hair could be on fire and everyone wouldn't know. It drives her crazy because she has a huge sense of humor and a mouth which she intends on using. I tend to keep to the quiet side. Sometimes I drift off into thought for hours at a time. That doesn't mean that it wouldn't be nice for people to at least be aware of my presence .

One typical Monday afternoon as Randi and I were walking to language arts, (the only class we have together.) a random kid bumped into Randi, causing her to drop all her books on the floor. " Hey, bozo! How about an apology?!?" Randi shouted after the kid, who was already long gone. I sighed. This wasn't uncommon. People would crash into us, and then continue on with their business. As I helped Randi pick up the numerous papers and binders that had fallen to the floor, my drawing of a monkey fell out of my school bag. Randi snatched it from the ground, before I could, and her eyes widened when she looked at it. "Whoa, Cass!" she exclaimed, not believing her eyes. " This is a piece of art! It's super detailed and everything." I turned tomato red. I wasn't used to much praise. Even at home, among my 4 brothers I felt unseen.

" It's supposed to be a portrait of you," I retorted. Randi snickered.

"Yeah right," she chuckled before becoming solemn again, ( something Randi almost never was) . " Seriously though, you should totally be in that art club after school." I shrugged my shoulders. That could be a possibility. I didn't have much of a social life, okay, so my schedule was definitely free. Throughout the rest of the day, I thought of nothing but the art club. It was only 2 hours after school every Tuesdays and Thursdays. And instead of taking the school bus like I usually did, I could easily bike home. My house was only two or three miles from school. During the last period of the day, I finally made up my mind.
