From the Heart
I turn a few times, and we pass trees and small towns with plenty of people walking around. Miley keeps glancing out all of the windows, distracting me. Suddenly she looks at me, but she just stares at my neck.
"What?" I ask, curiously. She shakes her head.
"You're hurt." she says, plainly.
"No, I'm not." I counter. She laughs, dryly, spreading hair across her face.
"No, I mean, you're hurt in your heart." she says, creepily.
"What?" I repeat, not getting it. I mean of course I'm hurt, I got kicked out.
"You know it. You just don't want to say, but I understand. Really, Kale." Miley says.
"But I told you I got kicked out by my mom." I argue.
"You only say what you want to say not what needs to be said." she points, strangely.
"You're not spilling everything either nor do I expect you to. So, maybe, just drop it ok." I quip.
"Why should I drop it?" she asks as I sigh loudly. It was my choice to pick her up, so this was my fault. But, I don't mind.
"Look, I don't have to explain myself to anyone, including you. So, please, just drop it, alright?" I plead.
"Is that supposed to scare me? We're friends now, Kale, I see you cry. I just want to know why?"
"Maybe later?" I say, wondering if I should let my walls down for her.
"Ok." she says, looking away, finally. Maybe she needed it, the conversation. I reach for her hand, but she pulls away.
"Sorry." I mutter. " I just need some space alright? My story isn't to be shared all at once."
"No story is." she says, simply, making me smile. She grins as well. Yup, life is good, for now.
