For Them
I slap the money on the counter as I pay for food. The cashier is a nice-looking girl. As she hands over my receipt she gives me a weird glance.
"Do I know you?" she asks as I shake my head. "Are you sure?"
"I'm sure." I say, slowly. I pick up my bag, and she touches my hand.
"Kale?" she asks.
"How do you know my name?" I ask, surprised.
"It was a guess." she chirps, turning to the next customer.
"Wait, are you flirting with me?" I ask.
"Do you want me to?" she answers with a question.
"Well, I don't know." I quip, walking away, confused.
...
"Dude, what took you so long?" Keith asks.
"What do you care? I got the food, stuff your face, and shut up." I order. His eyes widen.
"There's a girl."
"Shut up."
"I can't now. What's her name?"
"I-I didn't ask." I say, feeling more depressed than I already am.
"Wow. Hey she's probably still there." Keith says, planting a great idea in my head. I jolt to my feet and run out the door. I run back to that store, back to that girl-cashier. I burst through the sliding-doors, and she's still there. I can't move, I'm so scared. I force my right leg forward and slip on the waxed-floor. I land on my back and grunt, loudly. Why did I come back? She probably hates me.
"Kale?" An angelic note asks. I look at her and grin. She helps me up and apologizes for the wax.
"Nah, it's-it's no big deal, I shouldn't have been running." I say, stupidly.
"Yah." she laughs, softly.
"I didn't get your name." I say, noticing her name-tag! "But I can see that it's Sharol."
"That's right." she blushes. "I-I have to get back to work."
"Ok."
"Do you want my number, so you can call me later?" she asks, the question.
"Yes." I say.
