Elena has been having these awful nightmares almost every night and they all were the same thing, Klaus killing everyone she cares about and then draining her so he could have all her blood to make more hybrids.
Elena couldn't fall asleep after those nightmares which meant she barely had any sleep.
After having another nightmare, she went to the kitchen to drink milk and see if it helped, then went upstairs and heard someone walking around her room, making her grab a lamp to use it as a weapon, and quietly walking over to the man. Once he turned around to face her, Elena quickly felt relief.
"What are you doing? I could have killed you!" Elena whispered, almost yelling.
"With a lamp?" He asked.
"Elijah..." She whispered and put the lamp down.
"I heard noises so I come here to check on you and when I saw you were gone, I tried to see if it was any track in case someone had kidnapped you."
"What? No one is going to kidnap me." Elena said and closed the door of the bedroom so they could talk without waking up anyone.
"Why weren't you here? Did you had another bad dream?" Elijah asked because Elena told him once about her having nightmares when he noticed her being very tired. "You really should talk with someone about this nightmare you're having lately. If not me, someone else."
"I'm fine, Elijah." Elena whispered.
"Alright, but I'll stay the night in here to make sure you will be able to sleep and won't have any nightmares." Elijah said.
"If that will make you stop worry, then fine." Elena said and walked over to the bed, then noticed Elijah seating on her desk, making her ask. "What are you doing?"
"I told you. I'll stay here."
"You won't stay seating in there as I sleep. That's creepy."
"How is it creepy me staying here all night while you sleep just to make sure nothing will happen to you?"
"I won't sleep if you stay in there."
"Are you sure you feel comfortable with sharing a bed?" Elijah asked.
"Yeah! It's just a bed." Elena whispered and they both lay down under the covers.
"Sweet dreams, Elena."
"Sweet dreams, Elijah." She whispered as she felt his arm around her.
She smiled to herself as Elijah pulled her to get closer to him and being protective of her. She softly moved her hand from his elbow to his hand, brushing their fingers together and softly intertwine them.
"You will stay the night, right?" Elena whispered.
"Yes. I won't leave you, Elena." He whispered and gave a peck on the top of her head.
*Meanwhile*
Caroline was in her room upset with Klaus, trying to fall asleep but her being so upset with Klaus was stopping her from getting any sleep.
Suddenly, she heard someone opening her door, making her close her eyes to pretend she was sleeping.
She heard the door closing and a few steps getting closer, then stopped and she felt someone laying down in her bed, next to her.
"Love, I know you aren't asleep." Klaus whispered and wrapped his arm around her. "I probably should have handled things differently. I just don't enjoy to be told what to do. And, to be honest, I'm not used to having people around me who believe there's still something in me that can be saved... I'm not great with apologies. I barely apologize. Love, we had a little spat... It wasn't a big deal... Can we stop being like this... You don't need to say anything, just let me know, we are alright."
Caroline didn't know what was it, but there was something about Klaus that made her hate to fight with him and that made her want to spend time with him and get to know him.
Caroline decided to not say a word and simply hold his hand as a sign they were okay, making him smirk to himself and give a peck on her cheek.
"Don't make me regret this, Klaus." Caroline whispered and turned around to rest her head on his chest.
"I'll do my best, love." He whispered.
"Promise me." Caroline whispered.
"I promise." Klaus whispered, having the need of showing Caroline he could be an okay guy if it meant having her in his life.
Klaus always found that Caroline was this mysterious, caring, sarcastic, funny and smart girl but he was starting to realize that there was something about her that was making him start to care for her and that made him scared. He saw love as the thing people can use to hurt him, as a weakness... For him love was just for fools who let themselves get attached to someone and therefor be vulnerable and he didn't want to be vulnerable ever again. During his thousand years alive, he managed to control how he felt about outsiders and to not care too much about others, thinking of them as parts of a puzzle instead of people, but Caroline managed to make him care about her.
"No one can know I come here, much less about my apology." Klaus whispered.
"When will you stop using this mask of the big bad wolf?" Caroline whispered, lifting her head to look at him.
"Never." He said as he faced the roof.
"Don't you get tired of acting like you are this big monster everyone has to fear?"
"Fear makes people be loyal to you."
"So does love. And love can be way stronger than fear." Caroline whispered, but Klaus didn't said a word. "Don't worry, Klaus. I won't tell anyone. If I told anyone they would probably think that I'm just trying to go after your power and betray my friends."
"You still see being loyal to me means being against your loved ones, don't you?"
"Depends. If it was up to me to choose, I would be in college with Bonnie and Elena... Elena would give you every month a blood bag filled with her blood so you could make more hybrids. And I wouldn't have to make the hybrids keep doing whatever you say because I still think they deserve to have a choice."
"Why did you make that pact? Why haven't you tried to run away with your friends?"
"I made that pact because I didn't want to see my friends and my mom getting hurt. And I didn't try to run away because, besides me giving my word that I would keep being loyal to you, you would probably find us and kill us and also because I don't think what you are doing is all that awful." Caroline admitted.
"I might still need you after I get my throne back." Klaus whispered.
"I'll be here." Caroline whispered, making Klaus smirk.
Next on The Pact
"Does it involve going against Niklaus's plans? Or hurting my family?"

"You don't believe me, do you?"
***
"Fine. But no matter what you say, I still think there's something going on in here."
