Chapter 3
The winter is starting soon, the air is getting sharp with every breath we take. The kids are enjoying that they can see their breath, they pretend to be dragons and roar. The silence from the blanket of snow that covered the ground, the packing and cracking of each step you took with the snow crumbling under your feet was filling the air. I kept my fur coat tight around me as I walked towards my house, I finished my chores quick recently for the past 3 weeks. Everything has changed since the wolf attack, guards have increased, a bed time for the entire village has been set for everyone but the strongest guards who protect and walk the streets.
I walked into my house quickly, took a deep breath as I slapped my door closed. "Evan.." my name echoed through the room, I choked on my breath as I turned around fast looking for this voice. My eyes searched through my room until they laid upon my closet, the candle in that room was out. Maybe the wax ran out, I slowly took a step towards with my heart racing a million miles an hour. I quickly stepped in, as I stepped in i closed my eyes. Probably thinking it would protect me or something. I slowly opened my eyes, nothing but darkness. I reached out for the candle where I normally have it, it wasn't there.
"Evan right?" A female voice came from behind me, my heart sped up as I jump and turned around quick. "W-Who are you?" My voice cracked and eyes widened as she tilted her head. She had my candle in her hand, she dropped it as she crossed her arms. "Always the same questions, 'who are you?' She walked closer to me. 'What do you want?'" She rolled her eyes as she let out a deep sigh. I choked back my breath as I stepped back. "Alright, So Evan... my name is Sami... I'm not here to hurt you" She slowly touched my right cheek and scanned my face. "Hmph, not what I would imagine a lycan would fall for" she took her hand away fast and turned around. "A lycan?" I followed her as she went to my table and sat on it. She gave me a laugh as she looked at me. "A lycan is another name for a werewolf... the real professional name is lycan but humans call them werewolves for some stupid reason" she looked at the food on my table and grabbed an apple. "A-Are you a..." She took a bite of the apple. "A lycan? Yes I am, mated to the sentiment delta Craig" she smiles at me, "I was sent to check you out, was suppose to be like a stealthy watch but I failed by taking your candle out" she shrugged and took another bite. "Okay.. okay so.. uh.. why are you here?" I slowly sat down in a chair and looked at her. She rocked her legs back and forth. "I'm here to check you out, have any questions?" She watched me closely. I looked at my hands for a while, getting lost in my thoughts. I eventually looked up at her. "Why..Why did the large werewo- lycan.. attack me?" I bit my lip as her eyes widened a bit then she tried to cover it by smiling. "Well.. he saw you as a threat.. after he attacked he felt bad.. he senses something in you.. you're not human Evan" she finished the apple quick. I must of been zoned out thinking of questions cause she finished it. "Wait.. what? I am though, I am human" I kept my eyes dead on hers. She gave me a smirk "Any normal human would of ran from the lycan, no matter the weapon they knew that they couldn't face him.. but you? Ha, you're different, you faced him to save your friend.. to save the cattle.. if you're human damn you are very very courageous, humans have a fight or flight, if they know they're equal to the enemy they would fight but no human is equal to a lycan" she looked at the core of the apple then started to eat it. My eyes widened as I watched her chow it down. "I just wanted to save my friend.. I'm human.. any human would do it to save their friend.." I'm not letting this not human get to my mind.
"Oh Evan.. sweet.. sweet Evan.. you're not human, need to accept it.. now.. I have to go, Craig will wonder why I'm not home so! If you ever need me or have any questions.. just go to the waterfall in the south woods past the old temple.. just sit there by the water.. I'll show up" she hopped off the table and walked over to the door. She opened it and looked at the snow as it fell slowly. I watched her as she looked back at me and winked then disappeared into the snow. I closed the door and slowly ran my fingers down the frame of the door. "She's insane.. I'm human.. always have been.." I took a deep breath, this will all be over later. I just need sleep, get over this and move on with my life.

The ground was covered with a thick blanket of snow, the air was silent. The crunching of the snow filled the air, I looked up into the sky as the snow fell. This winter has been going on too long, it's normally over by now. "Do you think this winter will end soon?" Tyler looked at me slowly, I slowly brought my eyes down to look at the frozen lake in front of us. "I hope so, we've been losing a lot of cattle due to the cold" I gave a sigh as I laid back into the snow. I heard a giant sigh leave Tyler's lips. He hates the cold, never liked it. He prefers swarm weather, I don't blame him at all honestly.
"Do you think the ice is strong enough to.. hold us?" Tyler broke the silence as I saw him stand up. "Uh, I'm not sure but don't try it. It's not safe to even try it in my opinion" I looked back up at the sky. "I want to try it.." he started walking towards the frozen lake. My eyes widened as I sat up. "Are you crazy?!" I shouted as I stood up fast. He started to take slow steps into the lake, I ran to the edge and watched as he walked closer to the middle. "Tyler this is stupid come back! This isn't safe!" I shouted as I watched the ice carefully. He didn't listen to me, he kept walking towards the middle. My heart was racing, I don't know what I'd do if the ice broke. I wouldn't be able to pull him out, I'm not strong enough for that. "Tyler! Come on! Get back here!" I clenched my fur jacket in fear as I watched him. He stopped in the middle of the lake and slowly turned and looked at me. "Evan.. it's safe clam down" he gave me a smile as he looked down at the ice. "Tyler.. you need to come back" I started to beg him, that's when I've noticed something. He's never.. acted this way, he's.. off.
The sound of ice cracking broke my train of thought, I looked up at the ice under him. It started to spider under him, my eyes widened. "Tyler!" I shouted as in a second the ice broke from under him and he went under. I'm a second I took off running into the ice to get to him. My heart pounding a 100 miles an hour. "TYLER!" I screamed as I dropped to my knees and slid towards him. I got the hole in the ice and saw him trying to swim up. My body froze, it wouldn't allow me to go in after him. I can't lose my best friend!
*Tyler's POV*
I stared up at the opening in the ice, the cold water was killing me slowly. I couldn't feel anything, my lungs felt as if they were nonexistent. My chest felt as if it was caving in on itself, fingers started to turn blue. I heard Evan calling my name, but his voice started to fade as the deeper I went into the water. My vision started to blur, everything started to grow black.
As I watched the opening fade into the darkness my whole life started to flash, everything was being presented to me. Meeting Evan, him and I getting into so much trouble. I can't die like this, I really can't I have so much to do. As my vision started to go black all I could see was a pair of glowing yellow eyes swimming towards me. Bright gorgeous yellow eyes.
