7: What lies beneath

Scott was restless, he couldn't sleep and his constant tossing and turning resulted in Malia going to the guest room upstairs that wasn't being occupied by their company. Scott kept groaning as bad dreams invaded his mind. The dreams weren't normal, they were sinister, quite like the dreams he had when he first became alpha, intrusive, but way more intense than they were before.
The voice in the dream, he's heard before but he can't quite make it out no matter how hard he tries.

"You're a killer, Scott.. It's in your blood, in your veins... I chose your path for you to pave the way for your true destiny.. to have power beyond anything the world has ever seen."

Scott whimpered slightly, he was shifting now in his sleep and his breathing was heavy. His white beater had a U shaped sweat stain and his nose also had small droplets of sweat in a single line along the bridge. Scott was shaking, his clawed hands were tearing the fabric of Malias satin sheets.

"No!" Scott yelled and that's when his eyes finally opened- Shining a blazing red and he sat up almost instantly. What the fuck is happening.

With a heavy sigh, Scott ran both hands through his dark hair and he shook his head slightly. He stood and he made his way down the hall to then gallop down the stairs almost two at a time. As soon as he turned the corner to get to the kitchen, he almost smacked into Stiles who had two cookies in one hand and a large glass of milk in the other. Scott couldn't help but to smile at his friend who looked like a deer in headlights. He also didn't fail to notice the milk mustache Stiles was rocking pretty radly as well.

"Couldn't sleep?" Stiles asked as he followed Scott back to the kitchen. Scott shook his head and as Stiles sat at the kitchen table, Scott opened the fridge and he pulled out a water bottle as well as a mozzarella string cheese stick.

"Actually the opposite-" Scott murmured and he twisted the cap off of his water bottle and he took a large swig. Stiles raised a brow, the look the doe eyed man had on his face urged Scott to elaborate.

"-My dreams. They're back... You know the ones I mean.. only this time, they're more intense. No matter how hard I try to shake them. They come back harder." Scott said, his voice cracked slightly. It was clear the alpha was tired and it was also clear that Stiles was concerned.

"It has to be a connection to Lycaon, right? I mean it has to be. This crazy fuck shows up and then you start having these dreams again? Only worse... Definitely a connection there, buddy." Stiles says and he shoves the whole chocolate chip cookie in his mouth. Scott smiled and he nodded his head and he took another swig of his water before setting the bottle down on the counter.

"You're right. I know that you are, I just... my dreams are the last thing we need to worry about right now." Scott murmured and he cleared his throat. He took a second to look at Stiles and he smiled.

"I'm sorry... you and Lydia shouldn't be here... especially since she's so close to having Callie.." Scott said and Stiles shook his head. The young FBI agent stood and he walked over to his best friend and he touched his shoulder with one hand.

"Yes we should be. If she goes into labor here, it's the best place to welcome our daughter. My dad, your mom and Chris, all of you guys... She'll be surrounded and protected by family.. so yes, Scott.. we should be here..don't apologize. I'm glad you called. We made arrangements, We were already prepared to deliver Callie here." Stiles said and he winked at the alpha before downing the rest of his milk and putting his empty glass in the sink.

"Thanks, Stiles." Scott said and Stiles nodded.

"Don't mention it, buddy." Stiles said and he leaned against the counter next to Scott and he crossed his arms over his chest though one of his hands was rubbing at his chin.

"Do we tell the others about your dreams?" Stiles asked his friend curiously and he turned his head to look at him. Stiles knew Scott didn't like to worry the group unless absolutely necessary, but Stiles can't help but to think there was something else going on with the dreams, there had to be a connection greater than what meets the eye.

"I don't know... I mean do you think we should?" Scott didn't like making decisions like this on the spot, he knew it wasn't a good idea to keep them kept in the dark but was it a good idea to worry them? Stiles sighed and he licked his lips, his arms were now back resting at his sides.

"Yes. I'm telling you, the agent in me is putting together connections. There's something that lies beneath and it's all connected. To you, all the wolves in town, and to Lycaon. We have to have everyone on board with everything so there's no surprises. I don't think we can afford anymore surprises, honestly." Stiles said and Scott smirked, he stared at his best friend with a proud look and he nodded his head.

"I'm starting to think you should be the alpha leading this opporation." Scott said with a chuckle and he shook his head and he looked up at the ceiling. He sighed and he huffed slightly and Stiles just looked down.

"I haven't had to do this in years, Stiles... my life with Malia has been pretty mundane. I work, I'm a coach, I pay bills.. the most action I've gotten in years were random omega trying to destroy the cemeteries for food... pretty basic and easy shit.. I'm afraid I'm not the alpha you guys remember and want me to be and it honestly scares me." Scott said and his voice was soft, his tone definitely defeated and Stiles' mouth hung open in complete shock at his friend's words.

"No, Scott.. You're not the alpha we all remember because you're not a teenager anymore. You're a grown man with grown man problems. You're already leading us more than you know and a true alpha, such as yourself, knows when to ask for help and guidance, so you're doing a great job to me. Stop beating yourself up, bud." Stiles said and he gently pushed the alphas shoulder. Scott smiled at him and just nodded his head, he didn't need to say anything else. Their silence was full of a mutual understanding. They may have had their differences when Stiles first returned to town, but a bond like theirs could never be broken for too long. The brothers were back.
