10: The storm...

A few days later, Peter walked into his daughters home with multiple books and the box the group needed for the pendant. It took him days to find the shit he was looking for, but better late than never, right?
Peter found the group in the kitchen, and when all their eyes fell on him, he held up the stack of books and the box, and he had a very visible scowl on his face.

"About time you've found it." Derek sneered, and Peter flashed him a sarcastic smile.

"Har Har, nephew, Har Har. Your mother had all this shit hidden. It's not my fault I didn't know where. At least we have them now." Peter informed them and walked over to the table and placed the items in the middle of the table.

Scott nodded.

"Thank you, Peter." He said, and Peter nodded his head. He's changed since he has a real relationship with his daughter and over and over again. He's done things to redeem himself a little more in Scott's eyes, and he didn't plan on relapsing.
Malia picked up the box and turned it and turned it. It looked a lot like the box they captured the nogitsune in. It made her wonder just how many boxes Talia had made like this.
"Alan made a few of them." Derek informed his cousin as he watched the way she examined it. She nodded and placed the box down, then looked towards Scott.

"Where's the pendant?" Malia asked, and Scott reached into his pocket and pulled it out. Derek tensed a little and looked towards Peter, who also seemed a bit on edge.

"Okay, well hurry and put it in the box!" Stiles panicked. Braeden chuckled and placed her hand on Stiles' shoulder, and she watched as Derek grabbed the box and opened it.

"Hold on to your butts." Stiles mumbled, nervously quoting Jurassic Park, making both Scott and Malia roll their eyes, but it surprisingly had Braeden chuckling.
Once the box was open, Scott licked his lips and took one final glance around the room before placing the pendant in the box. Kira was chewing on her thumb nail nervously, and Liam was frantically looking around the house, making sure no one was watching. It was honestly very nerve-wracking.
Once the pendant was in the box, Derek began closing it up, but then the house started to shake. Not just any shake, but a shake that knocked literally every single person standing around the table on their ass.
The box fell from Derek's hands, and the lid rolled off, making the pendant fall out in the process.

"GET THE PENDANT!" Kira yelled as she tried scrambling to her feet but was instantly anchored down by the demon wolves from the preserve.

"No! You son of a—"

"Watch your mouth, fox." Lycaons voice boomed through the commotion, cutting Kiras vulgar wording off.
Scott's eyes widened as he too was anchored to the ground, just like every member of his pack.

"No, wait. Don't!" Scott pleaded, and the distorted sound of Lycaons laugh echoed through the house.

"Yes, please. Do." Lycaon corrected Scott and leaned down to pick up the pendant, but before he had the chance to focus his energy to make his fingers corporeal, Alan and his daughter burst into the home.

"Yo ghosty." Deatons daughter taunted and Lycaon growled, the sound full of warning. His wolves of war all made a similar sound.

Before they had a chance to attack, though. Alan and his daughter tossed large viles of red oak tree ash around the room.

"RED ASH!" Lycaon howled and the pack watched with part horror and part fascination as the ghosts of the demon wolves and lycaon himself disintegrated to nothing.

Alan helped Scott to his feet while his daughter picked up the box and the pendant, closed it up, and sealed it with a little bit of druid expression chants.

Scott clapped Deatons shoulders before hugging him and sighing in huge relief.

"You and Sunnie showed up right on time." He said with a chuckle, and Alan looked to his daughter, who winked at him and Scott in return. Sunnie passed the box to Derek, who was staring at her with wide eyes and a mouth that was agape.
Braeden didn't like it.

"Close your mouth, babe. You'll catch flies." She teased, and Sunnie couldn't help but chuckle.

"I know. I'm all grown up now. Not the annoying kid Laura used to babysit. It's good to see you, Derek." Sunnie said, and Derek nodded his head and flashed her a warm smile. Talk about a blast from the past.

"It's great to see you too, Sundina."

Peter dramatically held himself up by using the wall, and he waved his free hand around.
"Well, that was fun. Let's get that fucking box back to the vault, yes?" He breathed and Malia rolled her eyes and walked over to her dad and helped him stand up straight.
Stiles was huddled with Liam, and Kira was already on the phone informing her mother of what just went down.

Scott looked around at everyone, as did Alan.

"Is anyone hurt? If not, let's get moving. Who knows if there's anymore demon dogs around." Scott said, and Sunnie pulled out more viles red oak ash from her bag and passed them around to everyone just in case they needed them.
When everyone gave Scott the green light that no one was hurt, they all moved out of the house and started walking towards the high school, which lucky for them was only a block away.

"Stay together. We're stronger as a whole." Scott said, and everyone nodded. After what just happened, there was no way they'd argue.

Halfway to the school, there was more growling coming from around them, which had the group stopping. Seconds later, emerging from the shadows, came demons that no doubt came to get the pendant— which was probably Lycaons backup plan. Which has
Alan and Sunnie both questioning if he was really gone.

There were 6 demons total. Two on the left, two in front of them, and two on the right.
Sunnie stepped forward against her father's judgement, and the serpentine bracelet that was on her wrist magically slithered down her hand and over her fingers and turned into a whip, but if needed would also turn into a staff.

"Petit fi.." Alan said, concern lacing his voice.

"Don't worry, pa.. I've got this. Go. Now. Get that pendant put away." She said and nodded reassuringly at her father. Alan hesitated but quickly ushered the group another way. Derek stayed put though, there's no way he was about to let her fight these beasts alone, even with Braeden giving him a shocked look.

"Derek. Go. You need to protect your girlfriend." Sundina told him and cracked the whip in the direction of one pair of demons.

Derek looked at her like she was insane.
"And leave my mate to get killed? I think the fuck not." He said in a hushed whisper and she stared at him. She didn't have time for this conversation.

"I'm not asking. Either you go or I have Scott drag you away." She told him and she looked at him and he shook his head but he did what he was told.

Braeden grabbed his hand and they caught up with the group but that didn't stop Derek from glancing back at Sunnie, watching his estranged mate fight for her life.

The pack luckily made it to the high school and Peter used his claws to open the vault.

"You go inside. I'll wait out here to make sure no other demons are coming and to wait for my daughter." Alan said to the others and Scott could tell he was nervous. Scott's been close to Alan for years and has been close to Sunnie for only a couple years now, but he knew she'd be fine. She was skilled in training and magic. Hell, she learned from the best— her father. Scott touched Deatons shoulder.

"She'll be okay." He told her and Alan nodded.

Without another word, the pack all gathered inside the vault and Alan closed the door behind them. He was stuck outside and couldn't get in unless a Hale opened the door, but that wasn't the worry right now. The hard part was over.

Derek grabbed the box from Kira and looked to Peter.

"Where did mom have it hiding?" Derek asked and Peter motioned for him to follow. They walked the length of the vault and Peter pointed to a safe that looked unimportant. "Tada." He deadpanned and Derek scowled.
He placed the box inside the safe and closed it and locked it once more.

"What was the pass code?" Derek asked and Peter grinned.

"Your dad's birthday."

"Ah."

Once the box was safely put away, the pack walked out and of the vault and a few of them gathered around Deaton, while others talked amongst themselves.

Derek however, was looking towards the direction he was forced to leave his mate. Braeden walked up beside him and touched his shoulder and when he turned to look at her, she smiled small.

"You gonna tell me who she is to you?" Braeden asked and Derek grunted. He wasn't ready to have that conversation at all, especially since nothing ever happened between him and Sunnie. Not ever. Their age difference prevented that.

Derek opened his mouth to give her some simple answer that would satisfy her for now, but then he was interrupted by Alan running past him to get to his daughter.

"Petit fi! Petit fi, no! No no no!" Alan screamed, he was panicking. Sundina fell to her knees once she realized she made it to her dad and as he scooped her into his arms, blood started coming from her mouth and the wounds on her body were oozing demon venom. Derek's heart broke and in that moment, he knew he should have stayed with her.

"You're going to be okay.." Alan's voice soothed his daughter even though he didn't believe it himself. None of them did.

Derek fell to his knees infront of Alan and he stared at his mate in her father's arms.

"Why do I always listen to you..." Derek asked, his voice cracking and Sundina offered him a small smile before she slipped unconscious.

"We need to get her to the hospital." Stiles states the obvious and that's exactly what they do.
