↪Classes

[] Indicates pronunciation of words.

There are many different classes of witch, all of which have specific types of magic associated with it. These categories are immensely powerful if in the hands of an experienced witch and in the right circumstances.

For example, a conjuring witch would be useful on either side of a siege as they can conjure boulders to break down the walls of a fortress, or alternatively, to rain arrows and boiling oil down on the attackers.

A/N: This example is rarely used as sieges are rare due to most witches usually travelling around their respective countries rather than residing in covens or fortresses. (Covens are solely for young witches who are training in their respective classes).

Witches are born with a specific skill set that lends itself to a certain type of magic, or class. The witch will normally specialise in one particular class as each class requires years of training to be close to adequate in it, meaning that it is uncommon to find witches that specialise in more than one or two classes.

The classes are as follows:

◇ Conjuring (Conjurers) - These witches can conjure inanimate objects or materials out of the air. e.g. rocks or a bed.

Weaknesses: Conjuring has its limits. The bigger the object is, the harder it is to conjure. e.g. a pebble would be easier to summon than a sizeable boulder. Man made objects are also harder to summon as they are generally have a more complex build than purely natural objects like a rock.

◇ Summoning (Summoners) - Summoners can summon living creatures and organisms such as plants and animals. Smaller organisms such as bacteria can also be summoned but this is not generally done due to the lack of use for it.

Weaknesses: Like conjuring, the bigger the animal, the harder it is to summon and control. The more summoned there are, the harder they are for the witch to control, meaning there have been instances in the past where witches have summoned too many creatures, causing them to lose control, and the creatures escaping. This is often what the human belief in unicorns and pegasi is accredited to as they are rarely seen in the modern day.

◇ Necromancy (Necromancers) - Witches of this type can raise nearby dead bodies to life and summon Fyr [Fire] and Is [Ice] Abrecans [Ab - re - cun] (Also known as atronachs or storms). For further information on Abrecans, turn to the chapter on Abrecans.

Weaknesses: If there are no dead bodies nearby they cannot be raised to life. Abrecans also require a large amount of focus to summon and are notoriously hard to control.

◇ Elements (Elemental) - Control of aspects of the weather, the most common elements chosen being lightning, wind, and snow. Generally witches choose to only train on one of these elements due to the difficulty of training.

Weaknesses: Require large amount of concentration and, depending on the elemental, their powers aren't as helpful in areas of extreme weather. e.g. areas of extreme dry heat would be problematic for witches that control snow as it would melt immediately.

◇ Healing/Restoration (Healers) - This class has the ability to heal and shield others (All witches can shield themselves, just not others). They can also heal plants and animals as well as sentient beings. Generally one of the weaker classes. However, masters in this class can restore the sanity of an individual, or can even reopen wounds from scars on the body.

Weaknesses: Often ineffective in large battles or fights and the best way to utilise this skill effectively is to be a master so it tends to be the class with the most vigorous training.

◇ Emotions/Thoughts (Manipulators) - Have the ability to control and twist emotions and thoughts. Manipulators are often called upon in circumstances where a human discovers a part of the supernatural world or sees something they shouldn't and memories or feelings of curiosity need to be suppressed.

Weaknesses: Incredibly strong willed humans and supernaturals can resist direct manipulation of thoughts or emotions. However, subtle manipulation is often used, usually escaping notice of the being under its influence.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

All these classes are trained in covens, large (usually stone) buildings where young witches will live and train to master their respective classes. These covens are looked after and ruled by a Sister who will be responsible for the upkeep of the coven and the witches residing there.

Each coven specialises in a specific class and the Head sister is usually the most experienced and powerful witch in the class of the coven. When a witch becomes more powerful than the Sister, the Sister is expected to step aside. However, this does not always happen and the prospective candidate has the right to challenge the Sister to a public duel in front of the other members of the coven; the winner becomes the Sister. The fate of the loser is decided by the winner. If the penalty for the loser is considered too extreme the witches in the audience can intervene.

(A/N: The chapter on Abrecans was burnt on the aptly named Night of Flames which decimated the Pack that the only copy of this book was stored. This chapter was the only record of Abrecan summoning outside of witch covens. Witches have refused to elaborate on the summoning of these creatures beyond they require large amounts of concentration. Because if this, the author of the revised version of this book has had to make do with general knowledge on the subject of necromancy.)
