Chapter 10 (Soel)

"Who is Shadowan?" I asked the girl before me. She acted as if there was something on her mind. Her voice was colder than usual, but I didn't want to upset her by asking what was wrong.

"I'm not sure, I just want to warn you. We don't know who this person is or what they can do, so we have to be careful." Her voice sounded distant, like she wasn't actually there with me.

"Why didn't you just send me a message?"

"I'm not sure, I guess I thought I would have more to say." She was sad, but trying to control it, trying to hide it. It was a defense mechanism, most likely avoiding vulnerability. She nodded her head at me as a way of saying "goodbye", without actually saying anything. She flew away into the darkness, and I just sat down next to the tree. I didn't really have anything to think about, I just wanted to sit, enjoy the view. I went back to my normal self, blond hair, blue eyes, sweatpants, T-shirt. I felt the wind fly in my face. It was relaxing, it really was.

I must have dozed off because I felt a vibration that made me wake up. It was still dark out, but my regular phone told me it was 2:34. I cursed under my breath and ignored the text I had gotten. I went back to being Delfini and swung myself into my bedroom. I changed back and lay on my bed. I looked to George's bed and was frightened to see a body sitting upright on the bed, eyes wide. I sat up, and I felt a lump in my throat.

"You're Delfini?" George asked, completely amazed. "I knew I recognized you!"

"Shhh! Keep it down! I don't need Becky and Dad knowing too." I really messed up.

"So, how did you get the powers?" George came and sat next to me on my bed.

I told him the truth about the day I went missing. The girl, the dolphin, the twins, everything.

"Wait, so you can see into the future and the past!"

"Well, not quite. I can only see one of the infinite possibilities of the future." My brother was amazed.

"Do you know who Uil is?" I shook my head. "Do you have any idea who it might be?" I wanted to say I haven't even thought about it, but that would be a lie. How can you not wonder who a person you don't know truly is behind their mask? But my thoughts came short. I figured I must not know who she is.

"I think she is just a random girl, and I'm just a random guy." He was speechless, and a thought popped into my mind. "You can't say a word to Erin." His excitement faded.

"I don't think that will be a problem, it's really awkward between us. Something is going on with her that is just making this take her down a peg or two."

"Oh, well that's fine. It's eighth grade, friends drift apart," I was trying to cheer him up.

"But she doesn't have many other friends, and-"

"That is her fault. If she wanted to have friends she could have just tried." Jo looked down. He wanted to say something, but must have decided otherwise.

"I'm going to talk to her tomorrow and see what's going on. This is such a stupid thing to fight over, and she apologized." I shoved him off my bed.

"Do what you want, just get some sleep." He went to his bed and got on his phone. I lay down and turned my back to him, thinking about Uil. What could be wrong with her? Why won't she just tell me? Why is my mind so active at three in the morning? Did I take my meds? Is it Friday? Did I finish my homework? What is wrong with my mind? I want to go to sleep! Should I ask Uil if she's alright? She might just be having a bad day. I don't want to bother her. Why is she on my mind? She's my friend, and I don't like seeing someone bummed out. I sat up, my eyes still wide open. I looked at my phone. It was 3:30. On a Saturday. I looked to George who was still on his phone.

"Hey, watcha doin?" I whispered to him. He jumped, which made me smile.

"Texting Erin. I'm going to meet her today at her house around noon." He looked happy. He was always happy when he spoke about her, he saw her as an amazing friend. So far, this is the first fight they have had since sixth grade that has ever wavered their friendship in the slightest way that we know of. Becky is always checking on him, she's protective.

"How fun. Is she your girlfriend again?"

"Ha. Ha. You are hilarious," he said with a straight face. He put his phone away and curled himself into a ball which is how he usually slept. I lay back down on my pillow, my mind still running. I couldn't believe I had already managed to let someone know my secret identity. I was just hoping that Uil was doing a better job. I pulled out my AirPods and listened to some music until I drifted off into a deep sleep.

I woke up to the bright sun. The window was wide open and the sunlight blinded me. I went to shut it when I found the reason for my wakening. Someone was pounding on the bedroom door. "Get up! NOW!" I looked to Jo, he could sleep through anything. He was fast asleep and laying on his bed like a starfish. I opened the door and let Becky in. She had flour on her eyebrow, but I chose to ignore it. She grabbed one of my pillows off my bed and put it over Jo's face as I just stood next to the door, watching in amusement. It only took a few seconds before I saw him flailing around. Becky released the pillow which George then threw at her.

"I told you to stop that! You could kill me!"

"I don't care! It is time for you to get up! It is already nine and I made your ungrateful-"

I put my hands on the girl's shoulders. "Becky. Language."

"Just get in the kitchen!" She yelled at us. We both knew better than to disobey our little sister. Let's just say for a little girl, she knows how to pack her strength into a punch or a kick. We got into the kitchen and saw the chef had made chocolate chip pancakes. Our father was drinking coffee out of the pot. Once Becky came back and our father had woken up, she gave us each a plate that had four pancakes each. We were all slow eaters, so by the time it was ten, we were still eating. Keep in mind, we were watching the television as well, so we weren't really talking that much. George left at 11:30 to walk to the bus. My dad took my sister to the movies, and I was finally at home by myself. Of course, being a part-time superhero, I decided to go for a quick check of the city.

The trees suffered some damage from the fire, but it wasn't terrible. Uil and I had caught it pretty early. There were a few muggers I stopped in the downtown area, I was hoping for a cat in a tree, but I suppose that would be too cheesy. I went back to my house, and I just watched some Impractical Jokers: Inside Jokes

It was getting to be just around one when suddenly everything went dark.

Note from ANGRY Author:

I am sorry to interrupt, but may we please just scold me real quick? I finished this chapter, and it was really good, it had a good ending, I had a good end note from the author, THEN! Then, my Wi-Fi wasn't working so I RELOADED this tab! OF course that just made me have restart from "It was getting to be just around one..." blah, blah, BLAH! I'm sorry. It isn't like I'm salty. Or anything. Grrrrrrrr.

Anyways, back to the story. ):/

It was getting to be just around one when everything suddenly went dark. Although I didn't remember me closing my eyes, when I opened them, I found myself in a kitchen, one I didn't recognize. Strangely, that didn't seem to bother me, but my mind was blank, and I felt fear in my stomach. "Uil!" I didn't know that voice, but it sent fear through my entire body. I was crawling, but I stopped as I saw my head had begun to show on the other side of the kitchen. I was hiding behind a counter, and the only thing placed on top was a pan. Across me was an oven.

I could see a shadow of a woman step behind the counter, right behind where I was hiding. Where her eyes should have been were only purple lights that kept glowing. I watched as the pan's shadow began to move, lifting itself off the ground. I looked to the counter and realized the pan wasn't synchronized with it's shadow. I heard a Clang, I felt metal hit my head, and I blacked out.

When my eyes opened, I was sitting back on the couch in the living room, Impractical Jokers: Inside Jokes still on the television. My heart was slowly beating down, and I spoke to myself out loud.

"Alright, so I was just called 'Uil'," I put my head in my hands. "I just somehow transported to another kitchen, I was attacked by a-" I cursed under my breath as it hit me. Shadowan. Another critical detail hit my chest hard. "Great. Yay," I said sarcastically. I realized although my phone had just told me it was just after one, the time on the oven said it was nine thirty-five. I spread my arms out as if in surrender and closed my eyes. "Take me now."

"Well," it was a female voice. "If you insist." I opened my eyes and saw just the glowing of purple lights before everything went black.

Note from the Author (still salty):

I hate this. I had two paragraphs written for my note, and it is gone. Poof. Gah! I spent a half hour finishing this story, then an extra half hour just because I had to remember what I had written. Anyways, I just want to say that I have realized that because as it turns out, I do not have all the time in the world to write two new chapters every day, I will be cutting back to just one. If you have any suggestions on what you think should happen, TELL ME AND IF/WHEN I PUT IT IN THE STORY I WILL DEDICATE IT TO YOU! I deal with Writer's Block, so I appreciate any and all suggestions!

Also, CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM: PLEASE GIVE ME SOME! As long as you don't just straight up say, "You suck," I will most likely take your advice.

Finally, this is actually about the story itself, not just me rambling on about random stuff. So, was that the ending you had thought it would be? Don't worry, Uil/Erin won't be bored very long. I only have a rough sketch, so give me your suggestions people! Just keep in mind, Delfini/Soel's visions of the future are just one of the infinite possibilities of what may happen. That isn't to say it won't happen, it could very much so be the actual event. Or it may have the roles switched. We'll just have to wait and see.

This is me just trying to get to two thousand words by putting an extra sentence because I only needed thirty more words.  I really have no interest in doing my homework when I could-2000!
