Chapter 9

The new day dawned, and the teens prepared to head out to find the Lush Dragon.

"So, where does the book say we must go to find Meadow?" Tundra asked, flicking his tail in anticipation.

Krystal hummed as she flipped through the weathered pages. She then stopped when she came across a page about Meadow.

"What's it say, Krys?" Blake asked.

"Meadow is located in a lush cavern in a ravine in a dark oak forest to the west," Krystal read, "To find the ravine, find an azalea tree shaded under a red mushroom."

"Then west it is," Cryo said, spreading his wings, "Let's get going."

The others nodded in agreement. After Krystal fed Ash and Toronado, she mounted her stallion and helped up her brother. When the teens were saddled up, the three dragons propelled themselves into the air and flew away with the horses galloping in tow. When they left the windswept forest, the group entered a savannah biome, llamas and donkeys grazing around them. Julia glanced up at the dragons and smiled.

"Just watching the dragons fly overhead like this is so cool," Julia commented, "Like, I knew the Ender Dragon existed, but to have more than one dragon is really cool!"

"I agree," Blake said, "I can't wait to see what Meadow and Apollo look like."

The older teens nodded in agreement.

"And hopefully, we can convince them to join our cause to terminate the Ender Dragon." Krystal said.

"I doubt they would want to do that." Blake said.

"Don't you remember how Cryo acted when we told him what his mother did?" Shane asked, "If that's any indication of how his older brother and sister might act when we tell them, the Ender Dragon's demise is closer than expected."

Blake averted the black-haired teen's gaze and sighed.

"Your heart is in the right place, lil' bro," Krystal said, patting her brother's shoulder, "But there's no other choice. Do you really want the Ender Dragon to take over the Overworld?"

"No, of course not. It's just..." Blake began, "I don't want to leave the dragons motherless..."

Krystal felt a ping of empathy for her little brother. She breathed out a sigh and embraced her brother from behind.

"I get it now," Krystal said, "But these guys are hundreds of years old with powers beyond our comprehension. They'll be just fine without her."

Blake felt his eyes well with tears as he leaned back into his sister's embrace.

"I miss them..." he said sadly.

"I miss them, too, Blake," Krystal said, "Not a day goes by without me thinking of them."

Blake nodded as tears rolled down his cheeks.

"You know what I think?" Krystal questioned, "I think Mom and Dad would be proud of us, going on an expedition like this with dragons accompanying us. Remember all the times we would get jealous of them for going to explore these incredible places? I wanna bet the tables have turned."

What the girl said made Blake smile.

"I agree," Shane said, "Your parents would be so proud of you guys."

Julia agreed with a smile. Blake wiped away the lingering tears and nodded.

"Thanks, guys." Blake said.

The other teens found themselves smiling. After they passed through the savannah biome, a plains biome stretched out before them with sheep and wild horses grazing.

"Normally, there's always a forest beyond a plains biome." Krystal said.

"Let's just hope that forest is a dark oak forest." Shane said.

From above, Cryo let out a roar before turning back around. The teens tugged on the reins, stopping their horses to look back at the Cold Dragon.

"What is he doing?" Krystal questioned, looking up.

The Snow and Ocean Dragons stopped flying, still beating their wings to keep them suspended, as they watched their older brother. The Cold Dragon growled before breathing out a chilly breath at the animals below. The wild horses neighed before galloping out of the way; the sheep weren't as lucky. The surrounding sheep bleated before Cryo froze them solid. The Cold Dragon landed beside the frozen sheep and flicked his dark blue tongue.

"Brother, what are you doing?" Tundra asked, landing beside him.

"I like my meals on ice," Cryo said, "What, am I not allowed to have some breakfast?"

After that question, Cryo bit down on one of the frozen sheep. Shane and Krystal quickly shielded Blake and Julia's eyes as the Cold Dragon mauled the frozen animals. When Cryo finished his meal, he licked his snout clean from the red that stained it.

"You know, we had some raw meat we could've given you," Krystal said, uncovering her brother's eyes, "If you were hungry, you could've asked."

"But where's the fun in that?" Cryo asked, "I normally don't waste my breath for lowly sheep. I need something that'll fight back and give me a challenge. But I was hungry, and other than your horses, those sheep were the next best thing."

Krystal and Shane instinctively placed a protecting hand on their steeds.

"He's only kidding, right, brother?" Tundra asked, glaring at his older brother.

The Cold Dragon scoffed as he rolled his pale blue eyes.

"Of course, I'm kidding," Cryo said, though his eyes told a different story.

"Cryo, please stop scaring the kids," Neptune said, landing beside her brothers.

"What? They don't need their horses; they have us to ride on."

"That is not the point, brother."

The four teens watched as the dragons chatted.

"This is the first time I've seen them act... normal," Shane said, "Like, no roaring, growling, snarling, or hissing."

"I agree." Blake said.

"Come on, kids," Tundra said, spreading his wings, "No time to waste."

When the teens nodded, the three dragons flew into the air with the horses following from below. As they passed through the plains biome, a forest came into view.

"Forest dead ahead!" Julia proclaimed.

Everyone looked ahead and saw a particular tree's thick trunks and canopy.

"That's a dark oak forest, alright." Shane said.

When they reached the forest's edge, the older teens tugged at the reins, bringing the horses to a halt. The teens dismounted their steeds as they gazed up at the thick forest.

"Looks like we have to go the rest of the way on foot," Krystal said, "With how thick these forests can be, it'll be hard for our horses to navigate through."

"Smart thinking, Krys." Shane said.

The teens turned to the sound of the wind, only to see the dragons land behind them.

"Yeah, Meadow would definitely want to be in a secluded place like this," Tundra said, "She has a temper, so she's always isolating herself to stop herself from going off,"

"She's also a lazy lizard with wings," Cryo spat, flicking his tail.

"He's one of the reasons she needs to isolate herself most of the time."

"But it is so much fun to set her off and quite easy."

Neptune only sighed as she approached the forest. When she placed her claws on a tree, the Ocean Dragon groaned in pain, stumbled backward, and clutched her chest.

"Neptune! Are you alright?" Cryo asked, rushing to his sister's side.

"Meadow... she's here..." Neptune panted.

"Then let's get a move on," Julia said, "Maybe we can use the trees to find where the ravine is."

"And Meadow." Blake said.

The others nodded firmly before venturing into the dark oak forest. The thick canopy blocked out the sun, and only small patches of light filtered through the dense foliage.

"Hopefully, we can find the ravine in time," Shane commented, "Who knows how long Meadow has been here..."
