Chapter 8

As the group drew closer to the Frozen Peaks, the temperature started to drop.

"It wasn't this c-cold a few s-seconds ago." Blake shivered.

"That must be Cryo's power in effect," Tundra said, "He can drop the temperature below freezing in a matter of seconds."

"T-Then let's h-hurry," Krystal shivered, "The quicker w-we find Cryo and s-save him, the q-quicker we can leave this f-frigid biome."

The Snow and Ocean Dragons nodded before picking up speed. When they reached the Frozen Peaks, the dragons landed in a small clearing with no mountains.

"We have to wait for the moon to be at its peak to see the cave." Krystal said.

"How long is that gonna take?" Julia said, hugging herself.

When Krystal looked up, she saw the moon slowly climb a tall peak.

"A few minutes, it looks like." Krystal said.

"How long is a few minutes, sis?" Blake asked.

Krystal winced as a small breeze blew past.

"Give or take 5 minutes." she said.

Julia groaned before wrapping her arms around Shane. The older black-haired teen shivered before he did the same, trying his best to warm her up.

"Krys, do you still have that flint and steel on you?" Shane asked.

Krystal nodded as she reached into her pocket and pulled out the flint and steel. The girl kneeled before striking the two together, starting a fire against the snow. Blake raised his hands to the flame and let out a content sigh.

"That's a lot better." Blake sighed.

Julia left her brother's side and stood before the fire, feeling a rush of warmth through her body.

"The moon is almost at its peak," Tundra said, "I will search from the air to see if I can scout out the cave when it is time."

When Tundra spread his wings, he propelled himself into the night sky. Krystal sighed before pulling out the tome and flipping through the pages, searching for anything about Cryo. She then stopped at a picture of the dragon in question. The dragon looked similar to Tundra but had more rigid and ragged scales. The spines along its body and tail were needle-sharp. It was dark silvery-blue with dark blue horns and denim blue wings. Under the dragon's picture was a combination of symbols.

"What's it saying about Cryo?" Blake asked.

"Cryo's cryokinetic powers are the most dangerous out of his brothers and sisters," Krystal read, "With a single breath, he can drop the temperature below freezing, causing hypothermia to all those around him, as well as freezing anything or anyone in its place."

"Whoa, that's... insane." Shane said.

The younger teens agreed with nods. Then, a shrill roar cut through the chilly night sky. They all looked up to see Tundra flying down.

"I found the cave," he said, "It's not that far from here,"

"Is Cryo there?" Julia asked.

"Yes, I felt him. And he feels weaker than what Neptune and I first felt."

"Then let's hurry." Blake said.

After putting out the fire, the teens hopped on the dragons' backs. The two dragons roared before taking to the skies, Neptune following Tundra's lead. When the dragons reached the highest peak, the moon's light sparkled into a wide entrance in one of the mountains.

"There, that's the cave." Tundra said.

When the dragons drew closer to the cave, they groaned in pain.

"What's wrong?" Julia asked.

Then, their eyes turned a hazy purple. Neptune and Cryo growled as they dove into the cave, maneuvering around the icicles spiking from the ceiling and the floor. The teens quickly ducked, dodging the spikes on the cave's roof.

"Whoa! They've never moved this fast before!" Blake exclaimed.

"Glad I'm not the only one who realized that!" Shane said.

When the dragons entered a large area in the cave, it was freezing, causing the teens to shiver. Ice spikes were poking out all around the small pocket. In the middle of the cave's room was the Cold Dragon, Cryo. His dark, silvery-blue scales were dulling at the sight.

"Cryo!" the other dragons cried.

When they landed next to the larger dragon, Cryo groaned in pain.

"B-Blake, the D-Dragon's Breath!" Krystal said, shivering.

Blake nodded, hopped off Neptune's back, and rushed over to the Cold Dragon. The young teen pulled out the pink gradient liquid and opened it, gagging at the smell.

"T-That smell will n-never get old." Julia said with a shiver as she covered her nose.

Cryo sniffed in the scent of the Dragon's Breath and opened his mouth. Not wasting another second, Blake poured the liquid into the dragon's mouth. When Cryo swallowed, his colors returned. The Cold Dragon's eyes opened, and his once dulling denim blue eyes turned purple. The dragon reared and let out a roar, letting out a chilling air that made the teens huddle together.

"That's really cold!" Julia exclaimed, hugging her brother tight.

When Cryo calmed down, the Cold Dragon straightened his posture and sighed.

"That is much better." he said.

When he turned to his brother and sister, his cold gaze turned soft.

"Tundra... Neptune..." Cryo said, blinking back tears, "You're safe!"

The three dragons smiled and wrapped their wings around one another.

"I was so worried about you two." Cryo said.

"We were, too, brother," Neptune said, "We were, too..."

"It's good to have you back, Cryo." Tundra said.

Cryo parted with his younger siblings and nodded. When he saw the teens, his soft gaze turned piercing.

"How lovely," Cryo said, "You even brought me food."

The Cold Dragon growled as he flicked his dark blue forked tongue. When the teens heard that, Shane and Krystal quickly protected Blake and Julia. Tundra and Neptune growled at their brother as they shielded the kids.

"No, brother!" Tundra growled, "They're not food!"

"They are our friends!" Neptune said, "They saved your life!"

When Neptune said that, Cryo's disposition changed from hostile to calm.

"Is what they say true?" Cryo asked, looking at the teens.

"Yes," Krystal replied, "My brother gave you the Dragon's Breath, restoring your powers!"

"Please don't eat us!" Julia exclaimed.

Cryo glanced between his siblings and the teens and sighed. He then bowed his head.

"Pardon my behavior earlier," Cryo said, "I'm grateful to you for saving my life."

"You're welcome." Shane said.

The Cold Dragon straightened his posture before turning to his younger brother and sister.

"Where are Meadow and Apollo?" Cryo asked.

When he asked this, the teens and the other dragons explained everything to him. As the teens concluded their explanation, Cryo let out a dangerous growl.

"You mean to tell me that witch banished us here because our powers were a threat to her?" Cryo questioned.

"Brother, please don't say that about Mother," Neptune said, "I'm sure she didn't mean it."

Cryo eyed his sister with a dangerous look.

"You still defend her after she banished us? Banished you!?" Cryo hissed, "Open your eyes, Neptune! Just be lucky she didn't kill us!"

What Cryo said made Neptune whimper and tear up.

"That's enough, Cryo!" Tundra roared as he stepped between him and his sister, "How dare you say that to your little sister!"

"You defend that witch as well?" Cryo questioned, "She deserves to pay for what she has done to us! And that payment shall be death!"

The two dragons growled and snarled at one another. The teens couldn't do anything but watch as they argued.

"Well, we don't have to ask Cryo what he'd rather do." Krystal said.

The others nodded as they continued to watch the dragons bicker. Then, a sharp roar echoed throughout the cave. Everyone turned to the source and saw Neptune whimpering, slightly baring her fangs.

"Please stop! Both of you!" she cried, "I hate seeing you fight like this..."

The two older dragons glanced at one another and growled before looking away.

"Instead of fighting amongst ourselves, let us find Meadow and Apollo," Neptune said, "If we do not find them in time, they will die!"

The Snow and Cold Dragons glanced at one another and then at their younger sister.

"Alright." Tundra said.

Cryo nodded before walking up to the four teens.

"I will accompany you to find my brother and sister and help you take down my mother," Cryo hissed, "I owe you my life; use it as you see fit."

The teens straightened their postures and nodded. Tundra and Neptune ducked down and gestured for the teens to hop on. The teens nodded as they climbed onto the dragons' backs. The three dragons nodded to one another and propelled themselves forward through the cave. They effortlessly maneuvered around the icicles before shooting out of the cave into the night sky, the silver moon making Cryo's silvery-blue scales glitter like diamonds. Tundra and Neptune led their older brother to where the teens had set up camp for the evening. When they arrived, the teens were relieved to see Ash and Toronado still there. When the dragons landed, the teens got off the dragons' backs and yawned.

"I think we should sleep," Shane yawned, "It's really late."

"Sleep sounds like a fantastic idea." Krystal said.

After the teens brought out their sleeping bags, they laid them around the campfire.

"My brothers and I will keep watch for any hostile mobs." Neptune said.

"Thanks, Neptune..." Julia yawned.

When the teens crawled into their sleeping bags, they fell asleep. Cryo groaned before flying to the top of the mountain. Tundra sighed before following his brother. When he reached the mountaintop, Cryo faced the large, bright moon, his tail tapping against the stone. Tundra glanced at his brother and sat beside him. A beat of peaceful yet awkward silence fell between the dragons.

"Are you okay?" Tundra asked, breaking the silence.

Cryo only nodded.

"Still trying to process what the kids said?" Tundra asked.

Cryo nodded again.

"To think that witch would do that to us," Cryo growled, "She's going to pay for what she did,"

"Do you really intend to kill her?" Tundra asked.

"I do."

Tundra sighed before facing the moon.

"I-I'm sure Mother didn't want to banish us... at first..." Tundra said.

"And yet, here we are." Cryo said.

The Snow Dragon frowned as he clawed at the stone beneath him.

"No mother of mine would ever do this to me or my siblings," Cryo said, "To think the powers she gave us would be her downfall."

Tundra nodded as he listened to the Cold Dragon.

"You know, you're going to have to apologize to Neptune." Tundra said.

Cryo sighed as he nodded.

"I didn't mean to snap at her like that," he said, "I just... can't imagine what she might be feeling about all this."

Tundra nodded. Then, the brothers heard the wind rushing. They looked over and saw Neptune sitting on Cryo's other side.

"I do not know how to feel about all of this," she said, "I love Mother, but..."

Neptune took a breath before continuing.

"A part of me wants to keep her alive, but the other part wants her dead," Neptune confessed, "I cannot make up my mind..."

The Ocean Dragon sniffled as tears streamed down her scaly cheek. Cryo furrowed his brows before draping a wing over his sister's shoulders.

"I apologize for snapping at you, Neptune," Cryo said sincerely, "I was just so angry at what Mother did to us and the others, and I took it out on you and Tundra."

Neptune closed her azure eyes as she leaned into her brother's embrace.

"I forgive you, Cryo," Neptune said, "You had every right to be upset."

Tundra smiled as he watched his brother and sister make up. The Snow Dragon's smile faded when tears welled in his eyes.

"I know what Mother did was wrong, but I really can't bring myself to kill her," Tundra said with a sob, "I can't..."

Cryo frowned at his brother as he draped a wing over his younger brother's shoulder and pulled him close. Tundra let out a sob and cried into his brother's chest. Cryo sighed heavily as he rested his head on top of Tundra's.

"It'll be okay, Tundra," Cryo said, "Once we find Meadow and Apollo, we'll sort things out."

The younger dragons nodded as they buried their faces into their brother's scaly chest. Cryo looked up at the full moon as he pulled his younger siblings closer.

"Mark my words, Mother," he growled, "You're going to pay for what you've done..."
