Chapter 7

As the horses followed the dragons north, the sun began to set, painting the small patches of snow a glossy pale orange. After leaving the frigid grove biome, the group stumbled upon a small windswept hills forest.

"This should be a good place to set up camp!" Krystal called out.

Neptune and Tundra nodded before fluttering down to the ground. The teens stopped before a small cave that didn't go far into a mountain before them. Blake and Julia hopped off the horses, quickly made some torches, and placed them around the small cave. Shane and Krystal dismounted their steeds and brought them next to the cave, tying them to a nearby log.

"Let's make a campfire and get some food cooking," Shane said, "We'll need it if we're waiting until nightfall."

"Thinking back to what the book said, it said that the only way to find the cave is when the moon is at its peak," Krystal said, "My guess is that we need to head out around midnight."

"I was thinking the same." Tundra said.

The two dragons walked up to the small cave and sat down.

"Blake, Julia, you two stay here," Shane said, "Krys and I are gonna get some wood for a campfire. Tundra, can you help us?"

"Gladly." Tundra said, standing up.

"I will watch over Blake and Julia." Neptune said.

"Thanks, Neptune." Krystal said.

After Shane and Krystal grabbed their axes, the teens walked deeper into the forest with the Snow Dragon in tow and the orange sun setting behind them. As they weaved through the woods, Shane approached a tall oak tree and knocked on the trunk.

"Tundra, think you can bring this tree down?" Krystal asked.

"Sure can," Tundra said, "Stand back, guys."

Heeding the dragon's warning, the teens stepped away from him and the tree. Then, the Snow Dragon breathed a cold breath that froze the tree's base. When Tundra slashed the tree's bottom, the ice shattered and tipped over the tree.

"Timber!" Tundra cried.

When the tree fell, it kicked up some dust, leaving a partially frozen stump.

"This is perfect," Shane said, "Thanks, Tundra."

"My pleasure." he said.

Krystal tossed her diamond axe before catching it as she approached the tree. The girl raised the axe before bringing it down on the tree's trunk, splitting the trunk by a lot. Shane gripped his diamond axe before copying his friend. After a while of chopping, the two teens gathered all the needed logs before returning to camp with Tundra in tow. As they walked back, the sun was no longer in sight, and the silver moon was out. When they arrived, the older teens couldn't help but smile at the sight. Blake and Julia were huddled against Neptune's side as the Ocean Dragon was coiled around them, all sleeping peacefully while Neptune's scales pulsated a faint light.

"They look so cute together like that." Krystal said.

"Yeah," Shane said, "Let's get this fire going so they can at least eat something."

Agreeing with their friend, the older teens made a campfire. Krystal pulled a flint and steel from her pocket and struck them together next to the logs. When the logs caught fire, Shane lined the campfire's outer rim with raw salmon. While Shane was cooking, Krystal walked over to Toronado and Ash and pulled two apples and two carrots from her bag. She walked in front of the horses and presented them with the food.

"Here you go, guys," Krystal said, "You've more than earned it after today in the snow."

The horses snorted before eating the food from the girl's hands. When the horses finished their meals, Krystal returned to the black-haired teen and sat beside him.

"Food should be ready soon," Shane said, "By the time we finish, hopefully, it should be close to midnight."

Krystal nodded before looking back at her brother, Julia, and Neptune. She smiled when she saw Tundra place a wing over his sleeping sister.

"It's a shame that the Ender Dragon banished her kids to the Overworld," Krystal said, turning to Shane, "I mean, they need the End and its resources to survive. And since they've been here for heaven knows how long, they started dying."

"I know," Shane said, "It was a miracle Blake found the Dragon's Breath when he found the tome. Since that stuff is from the Ender Dragon itself, just a bottle each is enough to restore them to full strength."

Krystal nodded before she turned to the glowing flame. The fire crackled against the logs, wavering in the slight breeze, creating a beautiful gold and red marble effect.

"Neptune and Tundra have every right not wanting to kill their mother," Krystal said, "I wouldn't want to do that either. However, if I were in their position, banished because the powers given to me were a threat to my mother, powers that she gave me... I would want to get even."

Shane listened to his friend as he stared at her.

"If we don't kill her, our world is in serious danger," Krystal said, "And after reading that tome, it sounds like the Ender Dragon's death is destined to happen, no matter how you look at it."

"I was thinking that, too, but I doubt a prophecy would be enough to convince those four." Shane said, looking back at the others in the cave.

Krystal glanced back at the others and eyed Neptune with a knowing look. She then sighed before turning to Shane.

"I didn't want to say this around the others, but I think Neptune is split down the middle with all of this," Krystal said.

"What do you mean?" Shane asked.

"When she first heard about what the Queen did to her and her siblings, she was in denial, but after Blake told her that a good mother would never do that to her kids, I saw Neptune's expression shift from denial and longing to pure bitterness and anger."

"So, what you're saying is, in Neputne's case, on one hand, she doesn't want to kill her mother because she believes that there is still some good in her even though what the Queen did was morally and unjustifiably wrong, and on the other hand, Neptune wants to kill her mother to make her feel all of the hurt she has put her and her siblings through all these years?"

Krystal nodded before turning back to the fire.

"Bullseye." she sighed.

Shane breathed a dramatic sigh as he picked up the cooked salmon and placed them on plates.

"Geez, that's heavy on the mind." Shane commented.

"You're telling me," Krystal said, "And since Neptune is the youngest, it's an even heavier topic weighing on the mind."

Shane nodded as he passed his friend two plates. The teens got up before walking over to the dragons and their sleeping siblings.

"Blake, Julia," Krystal said, "Wake up; dinner's ready."

When the girl said this, the young teens' eyes fluttered open as they yawned.

"Here, we made some salmon." Shane said, passing his sister a plate.

Krystal did the same and passed Blake a plate. The young teens smiled as they accepted the plates of food and started eating. Neptune moaned before her azure eyes opened to the smell of fish.

"Don't think we forgot about you two." Shane said.

He reached behind him and pulled out a raw salmon and raw beef. He placed the salmon in front of Neptune and handed the raw meat to Tundra. The dragons happily accepted the raw food. Shane and Krystal smiled as they sat down and ate their food along with the others.

"When we finish, we'll start heading out," Krystal said, "The moon is almost at its peak."

The others nodded as they munched away at their food. After a few minutes of eating and chatting, the group finished dinner. Neptune helped Shane and Julia clean the dishes as Krystal and Blake gathered supplies in case things didn't go as planned.

"We'll be back soon, you two." Krystal said, patting the black and gray horses.

Ash and Toronado snorted as they leaned into the girl's touch.

"Blake, you got the Dragon's Breath?" Krystal asked, backing away from the horse.

"Sure do," Blake said, patting his pouch, "Got the tome?"

Krystal grinned as she patted her bag. As the teens walked up to the dragons, the creatures bent down and smiled at the teens.

"Hop on." Tundra said.

Julia and Shane got on Neptune, and Blake and Krystal got on Tundra. The dragons stood up and spread their large wings before propelling themselves into the night sky and flying farther north.

"Okay, this is awesome!" Krystal exclaimed

"This beats riding horseback!" Shane said.

"Don't let Ash catch you saying that." Julia chuckled.

The dragons smiled before picking up the pace, soaring over small mountains.

"Hey, look! Up ahead!" Blake said, pointing in front of them.

Before the group, there was a snowy slopes biome, and beyond it was large ice-covered mountains. The ice on top of the jagged peaks glimmered under the silver spotlight. A cool breeze swept past, making the teens shiver.

"Those are the Frozen Peaks, alright." Krystal said.

Then, both Tundra and Neptune groaned in pain.

"What's wrong?" Julia asked.

"Cryo, he's close." Tundra said.

"And he grows weaker." Neptune said.

"We have to find this cave, fast!" Shane exclaimed.

The dragons nodded before blitzing toward the Frozen Peaks, hoping to find the cave that harbored their brother.
