Chapter 1

Mitch loved to fight.

It wasn't a bad thing, if course. It was just his hobby. He would never, ever hurt his friends. When he fought with them, it was all in good fun, and nobody ever got hurt...badly, at least.

That was, except for trees.

The sound of a stone blade on rough bark echoed throughout the forest as Mitch hacked away at the sturdy oak. He whipped around and landed a nice, horizontal slash on a tall spruce. Not letting his guard down, he landed another mark on the oak in a gray blur.

After a while he finally stopped, catching his breath and lowering his stone sword. They were just trees, but they were amazing practice dummies. Nobody was ever surprised to see slashes on the trees in this part of the forest, because they all knew who was responsible.

Mitch held the stone sword up and slid it into the leather pouch slung over his back, and proceeded to make his way home. Enough tree-fighting for today.

Mitch was a demon. A demon who lived in the beautiful Overworld, and loved to fight trees in his spare time.

Walking home along a small dirt path, Mitch soon noticed a familiar figure standing around a little farther up the path.

"Hey, Jerome!" Mitch called, dashing forward.

Jerome let out a cry of surprise and whipped around. "Ag-Mitch! You scared me, buddy!"

Jerome was Mitch's best friend. He was an angel dressed in a black formal suit with a bright red necktie, and had dark brown hair that stuck out from under a hat he wore of a brown, fluffy animal called a 'bacca'. His feathered wings were the same color as his hair.

Mitch laughed. "I'm aware!" He caught his breath, and threw his best friend a curious glance. "What're you doing out here? Came to fight me?" He reached for his sword.

"You wish," Jerome said, grabbing Mitch's arm and forcing it back down with a smirk. "I came to invite you to Sketch's house. Everyone's gonna bring food, and we're all gonna pig out. Food party."

"What are you bringing?" Mitch asked, as if he didn't already know.

"Fish," Jerome replied happily. A thing about Jerome. He had a strange love for eating fish. Raw.

Mitch pretended to gag.

"Hey, don't hate it until you try it!" Jerome said defensively.

"I did!" Mitch pointed out. "I got food poisoning and threw up everywhere."

"Oh, yeah," Jerome remembered. "Anyways, are you coming?"

"Of course I am," Mitch said. "Just no fish."

"You're too mean, sir," Jerome said in a funny accent, as the two friends turned and made their way down the forest path.

≪≫

Jerome knocked on the wooden door of the house before them. A sign above the door read "Sketch and Sub's house".

Standing next to Jerome, Mitch stood carrying a small chest that was filled with steak. Meanwhile, Jerome was simply carrying two or three fish in one hand, and god knows how many in his pocket.

The door opened, and out stepped a demon with neat, light brown hair and brown eyes. He wore a simple brown tee with a dirt block design.

"Hey, Sketch!" Jerome greeted, waving his fish hand in the air.

Sketch stared at the fish for a moment, until he forced himself to look away and greet his guests. "...Hey, guys! Come on in, I'll find a plate for your...fish."

Mitch and Jerome stepped inside. It was a medium-sized house, with a big wooden table in the middle of a large dining room/kitchen area. A door on the side led to the bedroom.

On the back wall was a kitchen area, where a brown-haired angel in a plain green tee shirt was busy preparing what smelled like a pumpkin pie. He turned and waved at Mitch and Jerome.

"Sub and I are just finishing up," Sketch said, setting Mitch's steak chest down by the table. "Can you guys do me a favor and go invite Seto and Brice? I was gonna do it myself, but then someone nearly burned the house down making a pie."

Sub presented Sketch with a rather rude hand gesture. Luckily, Sketch's back was turned.

"Sure, dood," Mitch agreed.

"I'll come with," Jerome offered, hastily plopping his fish onto a plate at the table before following Mitch out the door.

Mitch and Jerome passed through the village they called home. It was fairly-sized, with gravel roads and wood houses of all sizes. A couple angel and demon citizens passed the streets, but the town was peaceful and quiet for the most part.

They stopped soon at one of the smaller houses and knocked, and after a moment an angel opened the door.

He had bright, blonde-yellow hair and blue eyes, with pale yellow wings. He wore a dark shirt with an image of a golden ingot with stripes on the sleeves.

"Hi, guys!" Brice said cheerfully.

Brice was another one of Mitch's many friends. He was an angel who loved to draw, and often drew wonderful pictures of his friends, requested or not.

"Do you wanna come to Sub and Sketch's house with us?" Mitch asked. "Bring food. It's a food party."

Brice blinked. "Food party? Sure, I think I have some apples I can bring. I'll be over in a minute!"

"Seeya there," Mitch said, and Brice closed the door.

"Apples? That'll go great with fish," Jerome sighed happily.

"You are disgusting," Mitch laughed.

Only two houses over, they stopped and knocked on the door again. A demon answered the door.

He had dark brown hair and eyes, and his horns poked out from under an odd purple cloak. The cape of the cloak curved upwards halfway down his back, into the shape of wings. Many people said that he had enchanted his cloak to have wings, as Seto was known for being very interested in magic and teaching himself weird (but cool!) spells.

"Food party?" Jerome asked with pleading eyes.

Seto raised an eyebrow. "Who's house?"

"Sketch and Sub," Mitch replied.

"I'll be there," Seto said with a chuckle.

≪≫

"We should do food parties more often," Mitch said through a mouthful of Sub's mediocre pumpkin pie.

The six were just finishing up. All the food had been placed on the table, and everybody had dug in. Seto was praised like a god after showing up with cookies, and lucky for Jerome, nobody else seemed interested in the raw fish brought to the table but himself.

"Yeah, they're fun!" Brice agreed, getting up out of his chair.

Sub stared questioningly at Jerome, who was gnawing on some fish bones. Jerome, noticing him, held the only raw fish left out to him. "Want one?"

Sub vigorously shook his head.

"But they're goood...!" Jerome pressed, and proceeded to chase a terrified Sub around the table with the fish.

"Thanks for coming!" Sketch said happily, ignoring the commotion behind him.

"Anytime," Seto said with a grin, and quickly left with Brice, the two not wishing to get involved with the fish chase.

"Goddamnit, Sub, eat it...!"

Mitch chuckled as he watched Jerome chase Sub around with the fish some more. He never wanted anything to change. Except maybe raw fish.
