Steve's POV
I woke up before Shelby. I didn't hear anyone else outside the tent. I stared at Shelby. Studying her. Everything about her. So I can remember everything when she's gone. Gone. It's July 4th. One more day. That's all I have with her. I won't see her for at least a few weeks. Maybe months. That's gonna be the worst few weeks or months of my life.Not knowing if she's ok. She could be hurt. I know Greg will be with her but it's not the same. But she's taking double classes so instead of eight years of school it's just four years. That's one positive way to look at it. Maybe the DX will be a success and I can stay in Oklahoma City with her for awhile. There's another positive thing. When she becomes a doctor she'll have a better future, I might get free check ups, and everyone loves a girl in a doctors uniform. More positive things. But there's still negative things. I'll miss her like crazy, I can't talk to her whenever I want (which is all the time), I can't work with her, I can't hold her hand, I won't be able to see her beautiful face, I can't protect her like I said I would, I can't show her off, I can't make other guys jealous (mainly socs), we can't annoy Soda with are PDA at work, and worst of all she could breakup with me for a better guy! I still don't understand why she agreed to go out with me in the first place. I'm pretty sure the cons out weigh the pros at this point. She started squirming. She stretched her arms and yawned.
"Good morning sunshine."
"Morning Stevie."
"Sleep good?"
"Yeah. Cause you were beside me. How 'bout you?"
"Yeah. Cause you were beside me." I smiled and kissed her. She instantly kissed me back. We broke apart when we heard people outside.
"I love you Stevie."
"I love you more."
"I love you most."
"Come on love birds!! I got enough of yall last night. You guys even shook my tent." Soda yelled opening up the tent.
"A little privacy. And we didn't shake nothing. Are ya tryin to get me killed?! Greg's out there!!" I told him.
"I don't want him to kill ya but it'd be funnier than hell if he kicked your ass." Soda chuckled.
"Lay off or I'll kick yours." I threw a pillow at him.
"Ow!! I'm telling on you!!" He left the tent. Shelby started laughing. I crawled on top of her.
"I love your laugh."
"Really? I have an annoying laugh."
"No you don't. You have an adorable laugh."
"No I don't."
"Yes you do." I started tickling her.
"Steve stop!! Stop!!" She tried to yell but was laughing to hard. She bucked around trying to get away from me.

Soda's POV
"Ow!! I'm telling on you!!" I joked. Then I got an idea. I smirked and walked towards Greg.
"Hey Greg."
"What?"
"I went to got wake up the two love birds and I heard them talkin all mushy so I told them to stop and Steve threw a pillow at me so I walked off, ya know to give a few more minutes of privacy. But when I walked off I heard them doin some stuff that didn't sound natural. Just thought I'd let you know. I didn't wanna walk in and see anything. I'd be scarred for life."
"Thanks Soda. I'll be right back." He walked towards the tent and I had a devious smile on my face.
"There's ya some privacy Stevie." I whispered.

Greg's POV
After hearing what Soda told me I thought I'd go check it out. Even though it's probably nothing, but you never know. I got by the door of the tent and listened.
"Steve stop!! Stop!!" Shelby yelled. And it sounded like she was struggling. OH HELL NO!!!! I barged into the tent and grabbed Steve off her and dragged him out of the tent.
"What do you have to say for yourself Randle." I growled.
"Greg calm down....uh...I meant...uh...um...it's not what it looks like...I'd never...um..do that to here." He stuttered.
"Bullshit!" I punched him in the jaw, but not to hard cause Shelby might throw me in the lake.
"Gregery Allen Benham!!! What do you think you're doin with him!?!?!" I heard Shelby yell from behind me.
"Shit." I mumbled under my breath. I literally dropped Steve and turned around slowly. She had her mad face on, eyebrows furrowed and an evil smirk on her face, she had one hand on her hip and the other one down and I swear she was turning red with steam coming out of her ears. Needless to say she was pissed.....at me.
"He was forcing you to.." She cut me off.
"He wasn't doing anything!! He was honestly tickling to make me laugh!!!! He's MY boyfriend!!!! Only I can punch him!!!!!" She yelled exaggerating the my and I.
"He should've said so." I defended.
"He was trying to but you punched him in the jaw before he could say anything!!!!!" She's got a point. While all this was happening Soda was laughing his butt off. I have a feeling he had something to do with this. Oh well, no harm done.
"I'm sorry Shelby." I hate saying sorry. But since it's her it doesn't bother me as much.
"Don't say it to me."
"Then to how?"
"Try the one you punched in the jaw for no reason and is still on the ground."
"Oh right....do I have to?" I begged.
"Greg."
"Ok fine...I'm...I'm....ugh....I'm sorry."
"Who are sorry to?" Shelby asked.
"Ugh..I'm sorry Steve."
"For?" Shelby said sarcastically.
"I'm sorry Steve for punching you in the jaw for no reason but remember I was holding back cause Shelby was here so think of what I'd do if I really had a reason and she wasn't here. There I said it. Are you happy now?" I asked her. She shrugged. Then realization hit her. She ran to Steve.
"Oh baby are you ok?"
"Yeah. I was stayin on the ground cause I thought he was gonna hit me again."
"Hh." I said. I mean that ain't the reason he's still on the ground. I'm surprised he can talk. Shelby gave me the "If you don't shut up I'm gonna kill you right now. You're already on my hit list anyway" look. Man I'm in trouble. I have a feeling I'll be hearing about this all the way to Oklahoma City. She helped Steve up.
"Anyways, Happy 4th of July." Darry said trying to lighten the mood.

Steve's POV
"Anyways, Happy 4th of July." Darry said. It's not happy.
"Ugh." I moaned. Shelby looked at me with sad eyes. I put my arm around her shoulder.
"Hey we better ice on your jaw so it won't swell and possibly not bruise." Shelby lead me to ice chest.
"How is there still ice in there?" I asked.
"We didn't want the stuff to ruin so Greg, Blake, Nate, and Hunter took turns filling it back up last night. They only had to two or three times though." Shelby answered.
"Oh." She grabbed a sandwich bag and filled it with ice. She kissed my jaw and then put the ice on it. I held it on. She then hugged me. I instantly hugged her back. We swayed back and forth. Shelby started humming. I instantly knew the song she was humming, It's Now or Never by Elvis Presley.

While she was humming that I thought back to when I first saw her. Her smile so tender. She stole my heart in an instant. Then I thought about what would happen if we broke up, I would literally cry an ocean. Man, there's an Elvis song for everything.
"That fits us just right huh." I said.
"Yup."
"Am I gonna be yours tonight?"
"Yup. Cause tomorrow will be to late." She whispered. I kissed her forehead. We stayed that way for awhile.
"We should go eat some breakfast." She pulled us apart.
"Ok."

Shelby's POV
I hugged Steve like there's no tomorrow. I guess in a way there isn't. This is the only day we have, it's now or never. At that time a song popped in my head. As usual, Elvis Presley. It suits the situation. It's kinda like our song I guess. When I finished humming the song Steve spoke up.
"That fits us just right huh."
"Yup."
"Am I gonna be yours tonight?" I knew what he meant. I thought about it. We could do it tonight and make it super special or not do it tonight and think about it being out last chance to. I think we should do it.
"Yup. Cause tomorrow will be to late." I whispered. He kissed my forehead. We stayed there, enjoying the moment cause who knows when we'll be this way again. I need to stop thinking about this, I'm so depressing. As if my stomach heard me, it started growling.
"We should probably go eat some breakfast." I broke the hug, even though it killed me.
"Ok." Steve said.

Darry cooked my favorite. Chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, and chocolate milk.
"Thanks Dar." I told him
"No problem."
"Hey sis I was thinkin maybe some teacher could come here and teach you instead of you goin there." Dally said.
"Aww Dal's gonna miss me. I wish I could but it don't work that way." I said.
"Just a thought. Mainly for Steve ya know since we've been pals forever man." Dally said.
"Sure." I told him.

After we finished eating we cleaned up.
"What time is it?" I asked.
"9:30. Why?" Greg answered.
"Just wondering." I answered him.
"Whatever you say."
"Really."
"Sure."
"Fine. The fuzz comes around the park at 10. Just to check things. I want to be on the boat before then."
"Why? Are you hiding somethin?"
"No but Greg we're near home. If we get out of the camp or the fuzz sees us, mainly me, they'll come up with somethin to charge us for. Or worse, haul us in."
"Let's get goin."
"That's what I thought." I smirked. We loaded everything in the boat and headed towards the lake. Greg backed up the boat. Nate drove it off the trailer and waited at the dock for Greg to park the truck.
"Move over I'm drivin." Greg demanded when he got back.
"No I am." Nate said.
"Move." Greg picked Nate up and set him in a seat. We all laughed.
"Why couldn't I drive?" Nate asked.
"Cause I don't trust you. The last time you ran into a tree. How do you run into a tree?"
"You know the story. We were pullin up to goat island and I didn't see the tree and bam. It wasn't my fault."
"Whatever you say Nate."

We drove around for awhile and then Greg pulled up to Party Cove.
"Oh my god!! I love Party Cove!! Guys we have to swing from rope over there!! We use to do it all the time!!" I exclaimed.
"Ok." Darry, Pony, Dally, Two-bit, Johnny, Soda, and Steve said. I looked at the others and smirked. This is gonna fun. The first time you jump it's so scary. It takes awhile to get use to because when you look down it looks like a long ways but really isn't.

Steve's POV
We went to the hill the rope was on.
"Yall ready." Shelby asked us.
"Yup." We answered.
"Who wants to go first?" Leah asked holding the rope.
"I'll go." Greg grabbed the rope. He smiled at Shelby and she smiled back. Wonder why, oh well it's probably nothing. Greg ran back, he ran forwards and leaped of the edge. When the rope was as far as it could go he let go. He hit the water with a splash .
"Next." Skylar said.
"Me!" Blake grabbed the rope and did the same thing . Next was Hunter, then Nate, then Thomas, then Sydni.
"Which one of yall guys wants to go first?" Shelby asked.
"What do we get if we do?" Soda joked.
"You're staying in a tent with you girlfriend. You want to impress her for tonight right? What girl wants to sleep with a guy who won't jump off a rope that she jumps off of. I know I dont't." Shelby said smirking at me when she said the last part.
"I'll go." I said. I have to go. She could be serious! It's just a rope, right. She handed me the rope.
"Wait." She said.
"What?"
"Let's go together!"
"Come on." I motioned her over. She grabbed the rope. I looked over the edge. Woah! That's higher than I thought.
"Ready?" She asked me.
"You're really gonna make me do this?"
"Yup."
"Then I guess I'm ready."
"On the count of 3. 1....2....3!" We ran towards the edge and jumped. I was freaking out and having fun at the same time. It was an adrenal rush. She was laughing that laugh that drives me wild. It was like in slow motion. I stared down at her. I forgot where I was. I forgot that there was anybody else there. I forgot about her leaving. But I kinda forgot that I was suppose to let go.
"Steve. You're zoning out. I know you think I'm hot but we have to let go."
"Uh?"
"Let go!!"
"Oh right." We let go together right before it started to swing back. We hit the water with a splash. Before we came up I made sure to kiss Shelby. Every girl dreams of getting kissed under water, I think. I want to at least try to make her dreams come true.
"Now let's watch them jump off." Shelby smiled.
"If I had second thoughts I know Pony won't jump off." I smirked.

Third-person POV
Meanwhile, on the cliff the others were discussing who was going next.
"Next!" Leah said.
"I guess I'll go." Soda said grabbing the rope. He looked over the edge and gulped. This was way higher than he thought. He took a deep breath and thought "If Steve can do it I can do it." He ran back then ran forward and leaped off the side. He flew through the air. The rope reached as far as it could. "Guess I should let go." He let go and landed in the water. He swam to Shelby and Steve.
"Way to go Soda." Shelby cheered.
"It was pretty awesome."
"Look Pony's up there." Steve pointed.
"Let's see if he does it." Soda said.
"No way pipsqueak will do it." Steve smirked.
"Be nice to my Ponyboy." Shelby hit Steve's arm.
"Ow! You try livin with him." Steve rubbed his arm.
"Ok. He can stay with me for the summer. That way I won't be lonely." Shelby smirked.
"Can I stay to!!" Soda asked.
"Of course you can!" Shelby exclaimed.
"Boss I'm takin my summer vacation and I except my check in the mail every week." Soda joked.
"How bout I just fire ya and keep your pay check."
"Sorry Shelby I can't live with ya cause our boss is a jackass." Soda joked.
"You can go in to work tomorrow if you want." Steve joked.
"Did I call you a jackass!0? I was just kidding. I would never do that to you sir." Soda said.

(At the cliff)
"I can do this" Pony thought "No way Steve's gonna show me up." He looked down and gulped. He could feel Steve's smirk. He walked back and ran forwards. He leaped over the edge. Once the rope went as far as it could he closed his eyes and let go. Splash! He came up gasping for air. Before he could start swimming something knocked him back under. He was trapped under the water. Whatever was on him was sure heavy. "This is it! I'm gonna die!" Ponyboy thought "I can see the light!" He saw a face. A very familiar face. Two-bit? "Hey Pone you ok? I didn't mean to land on ya."
"Yeah I'm fine. You sure are heavy though." Pony said breathlessly. Two-bit laughed.
Next came Dally, Darry, Johnny, and the rest of the girls. They swam around for awhile. Just having fun.

Shelby's POV
We swam around for awhile. Splashing each other. Dally was in front of me and I suddenly got an idea. I smirked at the thought.
"What evil plan is in that head of yours?" Steve asked.
"Pay back."
"To him." He pointed at Dally.
"Yup." I went under water and swam right towards him.

Dally's POV
I was talking to Skylar and I swear something touched me. I ignored it, I don't want to act like a chicken around her. It touched me again, I moved my hands around under the water. It didn't come back for awhile. Then it pinched me. I bit my lip.
"Is everything ok?" Skylar asked.
"Yeah."
"You sure?"
"Yes. I'm sure." But I really wasn't. Who knows what's under here! It yanked my shorts, I turned around. Nothing!
"Dally what's goin on?"
"Nothin Sky. Everything is perfectly fine." It pulled my leg! I spun around, everyone was staring at me. What is it!! Whatever it is, it's pissing me off!! Suddenly I was yanked under water. I fought and kicked but I couldn't get back up. What in the hell is it!! It let go and left. I came up gasping for air. Everyone was silent.
"What in the hell!! Did anyone see that?!?!" I yelled. Nobody said anything. Something's going on here that I don't know about. Apparently everyone else does and I hate being the last to know about things. I looked around. Nothing! Next thing I knew I got a major wedgie. I turned around but nothing was there!! Then I heard it. Shelby laughing. That bitch. She was behind all this. Steve was laughing to so he must have something to do with it, but I'm sure Shelby was the master mind behind it all.
"It was you!" I snapped at her.
"I told you I was gonna get ya back." She smirked. I forgot about that.
"Well you got me back. It's Two-bits turn." I smirked at Two.
"Don't worry I haven't forgotten about my dear friend Two-bit."
"Dally we had a deal you'd take all the heat." Two whined
"We did. And I was going to but Sis had other plans. You talk to her about changing them." I said. Two-bit shook his head. Everyone got a good laugh out of Shelby scaring me half to death. I didn't think it was to damn funny though.
