Steve's POV
Today's the day....the day I've been dreading. My worst nightmare. She's leaving. When I dream about my future I see her with me the whole time. This isn't part of it. I just want to lay here with her forever. She was still asleep. I could hear her soft snores. She was laying on my chest. My arms around her. I just hope she remembers that nobody but me is gonna love her like she ought to be loved on. I'm just scared of what could happen in OKC..

I stared at her for awhile. I heard everyone else outside so I thought I'd wake her up. I kissed her cheek.
"Wake up sleeping beauty." I whispered in her ear.
"I don't wanna go to school Greg." She groaned. I chuckled.
"If you don't get up you'll miss the bus."
"I don't ride the bus. Let me sleep and I'll love you forever." That's a pretty good deal.
"Shelby you have to wake up." I kissed her lips.
"Oh. It's you....and I'm not 6." She said getting up. I looked in her eyes. I couldn't help but smile as I thought back to the first time I saw her eyes. I was lost in her eyes. She smiled.
"Ya know, I wish I could stare in your eyes forever."
"You can...when I come back." She said sadly.
"That's the problem. WHEN you come back."
"I know. But I'll be back. I promise."
"You better be or I'll come and get ya." I said. She laughed. She leaned in and kissed me. Things got pretty heated. We started rolling around. I put my hands up her shirt and she rubbed my chest.
"Hey guys you better wake u-OH LORDY IM BLIND!!!!!!!" Pony screamed covering his eyes and stumbling out of the tent. That pest! Always ruining stuff. People wonder why I don't like him.
"Get the hell outta here ya little shit!!" I hollered at him.
"Steve Randle!! You be nice to him!! I expect you to apologize to him!" Shelby slapped my arm.
"Ow! I'm NOT apologizing to that prick." I rubbed my arm. She hit me again.
"Ow! But he's a pain in the ass!!" She hit me again.
"Ow!! Will you quit it!" I rubbed my arm.
"No." She hit me again.
"Damn it you can hit! Fine..I'll apologize to the runt."
"If you would've listened to me the first time your arm wouldn't be red."
"Yeah yeah." I said. She hit me again!
"Ow!! What was that for?!" I asked.
"I just like hitting you." She walked out if the tent. I shook my head but couldn't help but smile.

"What was with all the "ow's" Steve? Was Shelby biting? How many loved bites did she give you?" Dally asked when I stepped out of tent.
"Shut up Dally." I said.
"From what I saw you both should have some." Pony said disgusted.
"We'll talk about it later Ponyboy." Darry told him.
"He should already know for what him and Ashley did at the Dingo. Speaking of talk..Steve don't you have something you wanna say to Ponyboy?" Shelby said.
"Yeah. He's a smart ass kid. Ow!!" Shelby hit me....again!!
"Steve!!" She told me.
"Do I have to?" I begged. She raised her hand. I put my hands up in surrender.
"Fine fine. Just don't hit me again. Sheesh. Ponyboy..um..uh..I-I'm s-sorry." I struggled to say.
"For?" Shelby asked.
"Ugh really?" She gave me the "Do as I say or you'll be on my hit list" look. When she gives you that look you do as she says.
"I'm sorry Pony for yelling at you and calling you a little shit." I mumbled. "Are you happy now?" I turned to Shelby.
"Yes. Pony? What do say?" Shelby said.
"I-I forgive you." He struggled to say. What can I say? We are natural enemy's.
"Holy shit! She just taught the cat and dog how to friends!!" Two-Bit joked. That's a once in a lifetime thing. We went to pack up and I walked by Pony.
"Little shit." I mumbled to him.
"Asshole." He whispered to me. The cat and dog are back to normal.
"Since Pony's the cat I'm gonna call him kitty." Two-bit laughed.
"It fits him." I said.
"And your puppy." Shelby said. Everyone laughed. Oh great. More terrible nicknames for me.

We finished packing up and had some breakfast, sausage and biscuits.
"I gotta go to bathroom. I'll be right back." Shelby told me. The bathrooms are a few camp spots down. When she got back we loaded up and headed home. (A/N I'm not talking about the ride home. Nothing much to talk about)

We got home and we went to the Curtis house.
"I'm leaving at 6:00 so we have plenty of time to spend together." Shelby said. "I got you guys something, ya know to remember me. Let me go get it." She ran upstairs. She came down with a bag in her hand.
"First I got Sydni this heart necklace that says cousin, I have a matching one." She gave it to Sydni and hugged her.
"Then I have these gold best friend bracelets for Timber, Leah, Lauren, Skylar, Chandra, and Ashley. I have one for me to." She gave them there bracelet and hugged them.
"And for Greg and Blake I have dog tags that say I love my cousin. I know Greg's comin with me but he still gets one. I got myself one to." She gave there's and they hugged.
"Leah, Skylar I also got us three a necklace that comes apart and says best bitches." She gave them there necklace.
"Darry, Dally, Two-Bit, Soda, Pony, Johnny, and Steve I know it's gay but you don't have to wear it but I got yall these necklaces that has a charm for each of us. A guy flexing muscles for Darry, a beer bottle for Two-bit, a knife for Dally, a book for Pony, a puppy for Johnny, a chocolate cake for Steve, a Minnie for me, and a car for Soda. I was gonna get a Mickey one for Two-Bit I couldn't find one." She gave us our necklaces and hugged us all.
"For Hunter, Nate, and Thomas I got yall the same thing. A microphone for Thomas since you want to be a rapper, a deer for Nate since you like to hunt, a fishing pole for Hunter since you like to fish, and a Minnie for me." She gave them their necklaces and hugged them.
"Oh Greg, Blake!! Since yall like batman I found the batman and robin necklaces for yall. Since Blake isn't comin with us. Plus I have matchings of all of their necklaces to remember them. Like I could ever forget them." Shelby said. "Needless to say even with these charms I'm still gonna miss yall like crazy." She started to tear up.
"Oh baby please don't cry." I hugged her.
"I'm not." She sniffled. "Oh hell I'm am." She cried.

Everyone sat in silence not knowing what to say. We tried to comfort her. I know she's gonna miss us and we will miss her but she seems like something else is bothering her.
"Shelby, honey, is something else bothering you?" I asked concerned.
"Just that I'm leaving and you never know what could happen in OKC. It's a pretty dangerous town in certain areas." She cried.
"Hush baby I'll be with you the whole time. I won't let anything happen to you." Greg rubbed her back.
"You're right. I don't know why I'm crying. Let's go to the Dingo I'm starvin." She said standing up. We followed her out and headed for the Dingo

We got our food and sat down in ate.
"Guys have yall noticed we're sittin at the same table, in the same seats, in the exact same order, with the same food as the first time we came here together." Shelby told us. Everyone was quite.
"Steve can you do me a favor?" She asked me.
"What is it?" I asked. She threw me her car keys.
"You and Soda take turns driving her to and from work. Let the others drive her to. Keep her clean. If anyone hurts her, kill em. The one to wreck her gets a beaten from me and has to pay to fix her." She ordered me. I was stunned. I figured she'd take her car with her!
"Yeah. I can do that."
"I knew you could." She smiled. I could've swore she was taking her car. I think something's going on. We talked and joked around like we normally do. When we finished we split the bill, not letting the girls pay.
"We better get to loading up." Greg told Shelby.
"Ok."

When we got home we helped Shelby and Greg put their stuff in Greg's truck.
"Steve I wanna go somewhere with you real fast." Shelby told me when we where finish.
"Let's go." We hopped in her car and I drove.
"Where are we goin?" I asked.
"The DX."
"Oh." I said. We pulled up to the DX and Shelby threw me a DX shirt to wear.
"Put this on please." I did what she said. We stood by the pumps.
"I remember when we first came her. The first thing Leah said was "I call dibs on the one on the right." When I looked up I saw you. I yelled "I call left."
"When you and Leah first got out of the truck I was wasn't lookin over there till Soda said "Girl on the rights mine." I looked up and saw you and I said "Lefts mine." Thinking of that made me smile. It truly was love at first sight. Shelby grabbed my hand and we walked to the DX. I dug the keys out of my pocket. I held the door for her, like I did when we met. She went to the counter and I went behind it, like we did when we met.
"I need a tank of gas and two Pepsi's please." I didn't know what to say so I said the first thing that cam to my mind..."What's a pretty lady like you doin here by yourself ?" I said trying to sound flirty but yet cool. Wonder if I succeeded? Then she answered "Oh, just tryin to stay out of trouble." She had the sweetest voice. Everything about her was perfect and tryin to stay out of trouble she must be a greaser. It's official I'm in love with a girl I just met. I don't even now her name, better change that. "Sounds like a hard task. I'm Steve, what's your name?"
"I'm Shelby." A pretty name for a pretty girl. I couldn't stop staring at her eyes. "Well Shelby are you free Friday night?" Please say yes.
"Um, yeah." Score!!
"Great! I get off work at 4:00, can you meet me here?" Please say you can. I can't wait till Saturday to see you.
"Yeah. Sounds great!" She sounded excited and I couldn't help but smile. Just like we did the day we met. I grabbed her hand and led her to where the Pepsi's where.
"On the house." I said giving her one.
"For me! You shouldn't have!" She joked. "Here's the part I don't want to do." She sighed.
"What?"
"Hang on." She walked to the car and grabbed something.
"Here boss. I'm sorry I gotta quit. When I come back will there be a job saved for me?" She asked.
"I'm sorry to hear you have to leave. You where my best and favorite worker, don't tell Soda. Yes I'll see if I can save a job for you."
"Thank ya boss." She hugged me. I hugged her back. Not wanting to let go.
"Oh Stevie I don't wanna go." She cried in my chest.
"I don't want you to go either but you have to baby." I felt the hot tears roll down my cheek. I haven't cried in I don't know when. She looked up at me.
"Stevie please don't cry."
"I'm sorry baby." I cried. We cried together..

(Later that day when Shelby had to leave)
She had on all of her bracelets and necklaces that matched the ones she gave us. We all had ours on to.
"Everybody get in a line side by side so I can tell you all good bye." Shelby said. We did as she said.
"Dally I guess you're first. Oh geez I'm gonna miss you bro." She hugged him.
"I'm gonna miss you to sis." He hugged her back. "Don't forget about these." He said pulling out their best friend blades. She pulled hers out to.
"How could I forget." She smiled and hugged him again.

"Who's next? Two-Bit." She smiled.
"Don't tell us good bye tell us see ya later. Cause this ain't good bye. It ain't." I swear he was crying!!
"Oh Two-Bit I know. I'll see ya later ok."
"I'll visit you as soon and I can Minnie." He told her.
"Me to."

"Darry's next."
"You come back soon now ya hear or I'll skin ya." He told her. They hugged.
"Will you make my favorite breakfast?"
"Chocolate chip waffles, bacon, chocolate milk, and chocolate cake. You betcha I will."
"Thanks Darry. I'll see ya later."

"Sodapop." She said.
"Golly sissy I'm gonna miss ya somethin awful." He hugged her.
"I'm gonna miss ya to Soda."
"See ya later."He said.
"I'll see ya later."

"Johnnycakes it's your turn."
"Shelby I'll call ya everyday. I'll miss ya." They hugged.
"If you don't call me I'm callin you. I'll miss ya to. See ya later."
"See ya later."

"Ponyboy."
"I'm gonna miss not havin you around. Besides Johnny you're the only person I can watch movies with, talk about books, and watch sunsets with and not get made fun of."
"I'm gonna miss you to but when get back we'll do all those things I promise. See ya later."
"See ya later."

"Nate you're next." She hugged him.
"Benwilpott the longest I've gone without seeing you is two days. And I was in jail. It's gonna be a big adjustment. I'm gonna miss ya."
"I'll miss you to. See ya later."
"See ya later."

"Hunter I'm gonna your jokes." She hugged him.
"I'm gonna miss pullin pranks on ya."
"I'm gonna miss you. See ya later." She said.
"I'm gonna miss ya to. See ya later."

"McCoy be good to her or I'll kill ya."
"Geez I'm gonna miss you to." He hugged her.
"I'm gonna miss ya. See ya later."
"See ya later."

"Sydni if he gives you any trouble, even if he made your toast wrong, you let me know."
"I will." They hugged.
"I'm gonna miss ya cuz."
"I'm gonna miss you to cuz. See ya later."
"I'll see ya later."

"Leah come here." They hugged.
"Don't do anything I wouldn't do." Leah said.
"Don't do anything I wouldn't do without me."
"I'm gonna miss ya but I'll see ya later."
"I'm gonna miss ya to Leah. See ya later."

"Sky get your butt over here."
"Don't tell me what to do." She joked and they hugged.
"I'm gonna miss ya. See ya later."
"I'm gonna miss you to. I'll see ya later."

"Chans give me a hug." They hugged.
"I'm gonna miss ya. See ya later."
"I'm gonna miss you to. See you later."

"Ashie I need a hug." They hugged.
"I'm gonna miss ya. I'll see ya later."
"I'm gonna miss ya to. See ya later. If you need any advice on Pony just call me and please don't get knocked up. You'll have to face the wrath of Lauren and Darry."
"I won't. Thank you."

"Thanks for giving my sister advice." Lauren joked and hugged her.
"Someone has to give it to her. And by the way you are under age so if you get knocked up Darry is goin to jail. Same way with a Timber and Two-Bit."
"Shit I forgot about that."
"That's why people need my advice."
"I'm gonna miss you and your advice. See ya later."
"You give good advice to. I'm gonna miss ya. See ya later."

"It's goin down, I'm yellin Timber, you better give me a hug." Shelby joked. They hugged.
"You think you're so funny."
"I am funny. That's why you're with Two-But cause when I'm gone you'll have someone almost as funny as me."
"I'm gonna miss you. See ya later."
"I'll miss ya to. See ya later.

"Blakie!!!"
"Shelby!!!" They hugged.
"You and Greg were my first friends. You put up with me when no one else would. I love you so so much. I'm gonna miss ya but I'll see ya later."
"Putting up with you was hard and painful but totally worth it. I love you to. I'm gonna miss ya. See ya later."

"The best for last." Shelby jumped up and hugged me wrapping her legs around my waist.
"I'm gonna miss you so so so much. I love you." She said.
"I'm gonna miss you so so so much more and I love you more."
"Love you most."
"I'll see ya later." I said.
"I'll see ya later." We broke apart even though it killed me.
"I'll see yall sooner than later. See Two-Bit I perfected your saying ha." Shelby joked. She flashed her smile that drives me wild.
"I'll come up with something better." Two said.

"I'm drivin!" Shelby declared.
"Fine." Greg threw her the keys. They got the truck.
"Goodbye!!" Shelby yelled crying.
"It's see ya later." Two said. She smiled.
"I know. I'll see yall again this is not were it ends ok. No matter what happens." She said seriously.
"We know Shelby. Nothing bad is gonna happen." I said.
"I know. We gotta head out. See yall sooner than later!!" She yelled.
"Good bye!!" We yelled.
"Bye Benwilpott!!" I yelled. Her and Greg waved.
"We mean see ya sooner than later!" We laughed.
"Dally are you crying?" Two-Bit asked.
"No!! I don't cry why would you ask that?!" Dally yelled. It was obvious he was crying.

We started gloomily walking up the side walk then BOOM!!!
"What was that?" Darry asked.
"I don't know." I said turning around.
"SHELBY!!!!!!!!" I yelled running towards their truck that just caught on fire.....
