As far as Ponyboy knows Steve hates him, so he stays out of his way the most he can.

But what Pony never knew was that Steve envys him. He see's Ponyboy a lot like him...just better.

Steve wanted Pony around a lot but he didn't want people to know how he feels about Pony so he distanced himself from Pony so nobody ever knows how he feels.

Steve watches Sunsets, watches movies and reads;or he tries but isn't very good. They are scared to come out of the gang though.
