Imagine:
Pony's POV:
"Hey, Pony, wake up," Soda whispers from next to me. I yawn and look at him. "What do you want, Soda?" I ask him, frowning. He laughs. "Just wanted to say Happy Birthday before I head to work," He says. I jump up. "Wait that's today?" I ask. He nods. "Of course it is," He says. "Well, thanks. I gotta go get dressed!" I immediately get out of bed, throw on a shirt and jeans, and run to the kitchen to get some breakfast. "What's the rush, Pone?" Darry asks me as I slice myself a piece of chocolate cake. "I gotta go get Emily. I told her I'd be at her house at 9:00," I explain. See, it's my best friend Emily's birthday too, and I promised to come over. I had a fun, special day planned for the two of us. I take a quick glance at the clock, 8:45. I drop my fork and run to grab my car keys. "Bye, Soda. See ya, Dare. I gotta go," I call behind me, slamming the door, and rushing to the car. I get to Emily's house at exactly 9am. "Hey," She says smiling. She's wearing a light pink sundress and a little bit of makeup, something almost never wears. Emily is a Greaser like me, but closer to the Middle Class people. Unlike me, she's always wearing something nice, and it always makes me realize how pretty she really is. As she walks out I notice she's carrying a little bag, but I don't ask about it. "So where are we going?" She asks. I shrug. "Just some places." I wink at her, and she blushes. She's adorable when she blushes. Then again, she's always adorable. Soon enough, I park the car in front of a book store. "So, Emily... I wanted to get you a book for your present, but you've already read everything. So, I saved up some money, and I'm gonna let you pick out a few books, and I'll pay for them as your present," I tell her, even though I obviously have a better present, too. Her entire face lights up, because she knows I know how much she loves reading. When we're at school and the teachers aren't talking, she always has her face in a book. "Pony, this is amazing," She says, kissing my cheek. I feel my ears burning, sparks on my cheek, and a weird feeling in my stomach. For some reason, I can't stop smiling. It's not just for some reason, though. I know why. I've had a tiny crush on Emily for years, and I have a plan to get her to me my girl. Maybe it's because I'm in the company of my best friend, or because I just made her so happy, or it could even be because she kissed me, but I'm happier then ever right now. "Happy birthday," I say to her. "Where do you want to go first?" I ask. She grabs my hand and runs to the teens section. We spend a few hours there, looking through my favorite books and hers, and I end up spending $20 there. "Are you ready for lunch? We have 12:00 reservations," I tell her after we've checked out. She nods. "Where are we going?" She asks. "Where do you think?" I ask, smiling at her. She gasps, knowing exactly what I mean. There's this restaurant that everyone's been going to lately. It's expensive and fancy and she's always saying how much she wants to go, so that's where we're eating. Once we get there, I park the car, and go over to open Emily's door. "M'lady," I joke, holding out my arm for her. She takes it saying, "M'lord." We both giggle, and she hugs me. I put my arm around her. We walk in like that, and Emily's smiling bigger than I've ever seen her. We sit down and she takes out the little bag she's been holding. I take out a small wrapped box, and without another word the two of us exchange our gifts. Although I love it, it's not important what she got me. All that was important at the time was how much she liked my gift. When she opened she gasped, and I watched the tears flood her eyes. "Ponyboy... I love it so much!" She exclaims. "What's it for?" She asks. It's a little diamond necklace with a cute heart charm on it, and let me tell you, I've been saving up to get it for her it since our last birthday. I just shrug. "Nothing really, just a birthday present," I lie. Really, though, my plan was to ask her to be my girl with it. I'm a coward, though, and couldn't bring myself to do it. She smiles and hugs me. "Thank you. Wanna put it on me?" She asks, handing it to me. I nod and fasten it around her neck. We eat our lunches in a happy silence. She orders a salad, and I get steak. We make polite conversation, but we're both still trying to take in the events of today. Emily kissed me, I got her a diamond necklace, we were both happy. But what happened next was even better. "Ready to go back home?" I ask her after we finish our food. She nods. "Yeah, I guess so. Man, I wish we could stay here forever," She says. "I wish we could stay together forever," She mumbles, then puts a hand over her mouth. "What?" I ask her. She shakes her head. "Oh... nothing." I take her hand and we walk back to the car. We sit there for a while, staring at each other. For some reason I don't start the car, or drive. I just look at her beauty. "What was the real reason you got me something so expensive?" She asks me. I don't want to say it, though. We're both leaning in close, so I decide to make the last move and press our lips together. After a second of shock, they move together in synch. Her arms go around my neck, mine around her waist. We're just enjoying each other's company. When we're finished, she looks at me, beaming. "Will you be my girl?" I blurt out. She nods. "I've been waiting forever for you to ask," She admits, "And I think that's the best present I could have asked for." I blush at her response. "Happy birthday, beautiful. Here's to many more together," I whisper in her ear before leaning in for another perfect kiss.
