A/N: Later on, the topic of rape is discussed so: trigger warning

I was looking at the description of Sandy and decided to try and draw her:

So there she is.

Now, most people absolutely HATE Sandy and, I mean, I don't blame them. She cheated on Soda and got pregnant with someone else's kid. But for some reason, I never really hated her? Let me explain.

This is how Pony describes Sandy:
"I liked Soda's girl Sandy just fine, though. Her hair was natural blond and her laugh was soft, like her china-blue eyes. She didn't have a real good home or anything and was our kind--greaser--but she was a real nice girl."
(Pg. 14-15)

Obviously Pony likes her. From the way the book is written, it's easy to tell that Ponyboy is really judge mental (hell, he said  that a "poor dumb-looking hoodlum" fit Dally perfectly on pg. 23) So, I like to think that Sandy was truly a really nice girl. Also, Soda wanted to marry her. Obviously, he knows her better than anyone else and that just shows how much he loved her.

The other day, I watched this movie called "Precious." (Stay with me here, this is still related to Sandy) and in the movie, a 16 year old girl who lives in a bad home, becomes impregnated by her father. (It's such a sad movie but it's really good) Since I relate everything to The Outsiders I thought, "what if something like that happened to Sandy?"

I know, I know, this has absolutely no evidence behind it. But, it did say she came from a bad home and all. If this DID happen, it would make sense. Her father would make her leave to live in Florida since it's his child. And then Sandy returning Soda's letter would make sense too, she wouldn't want to be reminded of her actual love and relationship, since they can't be together. Also, it makes sense that she wouldn't explain to him because she was probably too scared of what her father would do if he ever found out. Another possibility though was that she was raped.

A lot of people just think "oh she lied to them. She was really just selfish." If you do think that, that's your opinion and that's fine. But to me, that just doesn't add up. It doesn't seem realistic that someone would lie their entire life and never show their true colors. You could argue that Sandy getting pregnant was an example of that, but she wasn't a bitch or anything. She did apologize, and (in my opinion) it seemed that she cared about Soda.
