Sodapop was walking back and fourth in the living room with his arms behind back. Darry was out looking for Ponyboy as Soda stayed home and waited to see if he'd show up.
"Can I go to the movies with Johnny?" Ponyboy asked Darry.
"Yeah sure be home no later then 12." Darry said softly. Ponyboy nodded softly and walked out the door to meet Johnny by the front gate. That was at 10 O'clock that night. Now it's three in the morning and the two boys never showed up afterwards. The gang was out looking for the boys before they called the cops. Steve and Two-bit searched around the Nightly Double while Dally searched by the tracks and had Tim look around for him and Darry searched the lot. Sodapop was left at the house in case they came back. Soda was worried about his kid brother and the rest of the gang. When the door slowly opened he jumped and turned to it. What he saw he would never forget. Ponyboy was standing in the doorway holding a limp Johnny. Soda ran up to him and grabbed Johnny from him then laid him down in the couch then turned to Ponyboy.
"Where were you!?!" He shouted. He didn't mean to, he was just worried about his brother. Ponyboy didn't answer him just looked away. Sodapop only then realised that Ponyboy was sobbing softly. Soda grabbed him and pulled him closer to his chest. He sank to his feet and dropped to the floor. Soda held him close as the door opened again. Two-bit and Steve entered the house and saw the sight. Ponyboy was scared to death and stayed quite. Soon Darry and Dallas walked back in too.
"Where have you be-" Darry started but was cut off by Soda.
"Not now... He hasn't even told me..." Soda was quietly humming to the frightened boy. They knew something bad happened if Ponyboy refused to tell Sodapop. Soda hummed softly in Ponyboys ear 'You are my Sunshine'. Soon he started to calm down.
"W-we were heading him from the movies around 11:30 so we'd be home on time..." He took a deep breath to try and calm himself down. "A car pulled up beside us and... And a group of Socs came out of it a-and started to surround up. I got scared..." He started sobbing again. "Johnny tried to protect me and he got stabbed... They stabbed him..." Ponyboy was covered in the blood of the other boys. He was sobbing harder into Sodas chest.
