Chapter 27: An Unexpected Encounter

As the night wore on, Lucas tried to put Andrew out of his mind and focus on having fun. He danced with Penny, laughed with Jack, and even managed to make a few new friends.

But despite his best efforts, he couldn't shake the feeling that Andrew was watching him. He kept catching glimpses of him out of the corner of his eye, but whenever he turned to look, Andrew was nowhere to be found.

It wasn't until the party was starting to wind down that Lucas finally came face to face with Andrew. He was standing by the bar, nursing a drink and looking like he owned the place.

Lucas felt a surge of anxiety as he approached him. He didn't know what to expect, but he was determined to stay calm.

"Andrew," he said, trying to sound casual.

Andrew looked up at him, a smirk on his face. "Lucas," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "It's been a while."

Lucas felt a surge of anger, but he tried to keep his cool. "What are you doing here?" he asked.

Andrew shrugged. "Just enjoying the party," he said. "I didn't know you were going to be here."

Lucas raised an eyebrow. "You didn't know?" he repeated.

Andrew shook his head. "No, I didn't," he said. "But I'm glad I ran into you. We need to talk."

Lucas felt a sense of trepidation. What did Andrew want to talk about?

But before he could ask, Penny appeared at his side. "Hey, Lucas," she said, looking at Andrew with a suspicious expression. "Who's this?"

Lucas hesitated, unsure of how to introduce Andrew. But before he could say anything, Andrew spoke up.

"I'm Andrew," he said, smiling at Penny. "An old friend of Lucas's."

Penny's expression turned skeptical, but she smiled politely. "Nice to meet you," she said.

Lucas felt a surge of gratitude towards Penny. She had no idea what was going on, but she was standing by him anyway.

But as they stood there, Lucas couldn't shake the feeling that Andrew was up to something. He didn't know what, but he was determined to find out.

As Penny stood there, looking at Andrew with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion, Lucas couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. He knew that Andrew was trouble, and he didn't want Penny to get caught up in his web of deceit.

But before he could say anything, Andrew spoke up. "So, Penny, what do you think of our little university so far?" he asked, his voice dripping with charm.

Penny smiled politely, but Lucas could tell that she was wary of Andrew. "It's been great so far," she said. "I'm really enjoying my classes and meeting new people."

Andrew nodded, his eyes gleaming with interest. "That's terrific," he said. "I'm sure you'll do great things here. You seem like a very driven person."

Lucas felt a surge of annoyance at Andrew's flirtatious tone, but Penny just laughed. "Thanks, Andrew," she said. "I try my best."

As they stood there, chatting with Andrew, Lucas couldn't help but feel like he was stuck in some kind of nightmare. He had thought that he was done with Andrew, that he had left him and his deceitful ways behind. But now, here Andrew was, charming and smiling and acting like he was the best friend Lucas had ever had.

It was enough to make Lucas's blood boil. He knew that he had to get Penny away from Andrew, before he could do any more damage.

"Hey, Penny, can I talk to you for a minute?" Lucas asked, trying to sound casual.

Penny nodded, and Lucas pulled her aside, away from Andrew's prying ears.

"What's going on?" Penny asked, looking at Lucas with concern.

Lucas hesitated, unsure of how to explain. "It's just Andrew," he said finally. "I don't trust him. He's not a good person."

Penny's expression turned skeptical. "What do you mean?" she asked.

Lucas took a deep breath, trying to explain. "Andrew and I...we have a history," he said. "We used to be friends, but he did something that hurt me, something that I can never forgive him for."

Penny's eyes widened in surprise. "What did he do?" she asked.

Lucas hesitated, unsure of how to explain. "He...he cheated with me on a test," he said finally. "And then he lied about it, and tried to ruin my reputation."

Penny's expression turned shocked. "That's terrible," she said. "I'm so sorry, Lucas."

Lucas nodded, feeling a sense of relief. "It's okay," he said. "I just don't want you to get hurt by him. He's not a good person, Penny."

Penny nodded, her eyes serious. "I'll be careful," she said. "I promise."

As they stood there, Lucas felt a sense of gratitude towards Penny. She was always there for him, no matter what. And he knew that he could always count on her to have his back.

But as they turned to walk away, Lucas caught sight of Andrew, watching them with a sly smile on his face. And Lucas knew that this wasn't the end of things. Not by a long shot.
