Chapter Seven

Hope sat on the top of a roof with her hand on her cheek. She needed to figure out an easier way to convince Amaris to kill her sister that wasn't simply taunting her.

"Maybe I should figure out if I can get to that other world," she muttered, hopping down from the roof and onto the ground.

Hope placed both her hands flat on the road, causing her to fall through the road and down into the destruction of Chatham. She stopped herself in the air because she noticed something that shouldn't be occurring. The meteors were striking all over the place.

"I may be intelligent, but something happened without me knowing," she said, sticking her hand out for a barrier to surround her.

The meteors were burning things everywhere. The road was beginning to turn into nothing but water, slowly rising. There were buildings that were shrinking, and all the debris was disappearing. This meant the water was increasing, and soon this would be nothing but water.

"Hope!" she heard someone yell in her head.

"What do you want, Jaxton?" she sighed, watching the meteors fall.

"Are you controlling Alexandra right now?"

"Did Amaris kill her?"

That would be great if Amaris did end up killing Alexandra. If she did kill her, she thought her body would feel empty or like something was missing.

"She's firing lasers in different directions, trying to target Caine and me. Caine did something."

"Then just shoot her in the chest. Have you learned nothing?"

"Caine kissed Amaris."

Hope grinned deviously, snapping her fingers and landing back on the normal road in Claymore. There's no sense stopping that world from destroying itself anymore, which means seeing the weakness in action will give her information.

She pressed two fingers to her right temple, looking through her mind for the exact location of those four, if Caine was still there.

Hope landed on the empty street, where Caine wasn't in sight anymore. Amaris was sitting and staring blankly at a house, and Jaxton was firing red lasers at Alexandra, who did the same.

Suddenly, one black laser went shooting directly at Alexandra's head, who stumbled back. Kai stood a far distance behind Jaxton, his middle finger directed at her.

"Poor little Alexandra O'Rally," Hope mocked, slamming a hand to each temple. "First a kiss, attempting to kill Jaxton, and getting shot in the head by Kai. Was beating him not enough?"

Alexandra looked up with dark bags under her eyes and her skin drained of colour. This was different than the many times she messed with her head and controlled her body.

"You set this up, didn't you?" Alexandra rasped. "Trying to get a stranger to confess to me and then have him kiss Amaris."

"Did you realize what you did in that stupid town? Do you know what this means?" Hope barked with narrowed eyebrows. "It means the scientists are going to be back on our asses. Do you know what else that means?"

Alexandra slowly shook her head, her arms falling limp. Since that past couldn't be changed anymore, there was something different.

"Since your dumbass didn't change the past, what do you think happens if the past isn't changed? The repeat will happen," Hope said slyly.

"No," Amaris started. "No, no, no."

"See, Mari gets it. Remember a time when we made an agreement? The time you sealed away my power and thought you did yourself some favour? Are you ready for him to be back in our lives?" Hope taunted.

"I could have..." Alexandra trailed off. "Prevented..."

"Everything but you screwed up. Soon the water will flood every piece of those towns, and we'll be reliving that time again. The past will—"

Hope looked around and found herself in a pink bedroom with two bunk beds. There was a large cat poster and a bookshelf of chapter books. On a nightstand beside the bottom bunk were some medications.

The door busted open to a eight-year-old Aubrey Prices. She tilted her head, holding a rag doll in her left hand that they both got for their birthdays.

"You have to go to the new hospital today," Aubrey chimed. "They say this is the best doctor in the country."

Hope did not remember anything from the future. The repeat had started, and there would be no fighting or knowing what came next.

"Where in?" she coughed, covering her mouth with her hand and seeing blood on it.

Right now, every doctor in the country has diagnosed her with lung cancer, but none of the treatments worked. The final doctor in Clay had sent her to see Micheal O'Rally, Claymore's specialist in diseases.

"Yup," she said, slowly walking over. Her entire body ached that Aubrey had to help her down the hallway.

"Hope, why don't you use the scooter?" her mother, Kelly, offered.

"I'm not weak," Hope spat. "I'm sure he's just going to say the same thing like all the others."

"They only refer certain people to Doctor O'Rally," she said, helping them out the door.

"If I can get back to bullying, I'm fine," Hope grumbled, sliding into the car. "I heard Robert started bothering Gemma."

Robert was the weak bully in their class. Since she's had to stay home because of her condition, she can't bully him or those who are on his side.

"Hope you know it's not right to bully," her mother sighed. "Even if they do get on your nerves."

Hope flickered her gaze at her mother, then to Aubrey, who beamed a smile. She was used to going to all the appointments with her and her mother, since it was an opportunity for her to skip school.

The hospital in Claymore was on a long, abandoned road. There was an empty field across the street with one house nearby. Only a few cars were in the parking lot, despite the hospital seeming huge.

Inside the building, the entrance had an old lady sitting beside someone with two reception desks. She and Aubrey sat down while their mother checked them in.

"I'm sure he will cure you!" Aubrey beamed a smile. "If not, I'm sure we'll find a different way."

Aubrey was never a negative person. If something bad seemed to be happening, she would always attempt to find a solution.

Hope glanced at a magazine and looked at the cover of a man with a prickly beard and black hair. It was reported that the mayor of Claymore was Jackson Kenny. It was an interview inside about how the town is excited to have a new mayor since the last one died of old age.

"Interesting," Hope muttered. "He's the mayor and head police chief."

"Who?" Aubrey asked.

"Jackson Kenny," Hope said, grabbing another magazine and flipping through some pages.

"Girls, let's go to the sixth floor," Kelly called.

Hope grabbed the magazine and walked to the elevator, coughing up blood on her arm. She wasn't even sure how she had managed to stay alive this long with the amount of blood she coughed up in a day.

When they got upstairs, there were two girls sitting in the waiting room with a mother. Both looked over with ocean eyes and curly bleach blonde hair. They were exactly identical except for wearing different clothing.

Hope was smart because she knew identical twins didn't exist. It's a common fact you read everywhere about how, in the past, some biological processes got screwed up and caused the inability to have twins of the same gender. Yet, they and these girls were exceptions. This place was different than the other towns.

Hope went with Aubrey to a seat across from them. The woman with brown hair smiled weakly at them, while the two twins looked at them awkwardly.

"There's blood on your arm," Aubrey pointed out.

Hope lifted her arms and spotted the dried blood. She grabbed a tissue from beside the small table, spit in the tissue, and rubbed off the blood. She noticed when she spit, there was blood in it.

It was obvious her body was slowly shutting down. Most likely, she'd probably have less than a month left, which meant she needed to figure out one thing that was unrelated to her own illness.

"What does she have?" one of the twins asked in a timid voice.

"Something that isn't cancer," Aubrey said with a smile. "I'm sure it's something that can be fixed!"

Hope cocked an eyebrow at the other girl, who stared at her with a frown. She could sense something was different about this one, unlike the other one. They definitely had to be what the world feared.

"Rare," Hope whispered under her breath. "Perfect."

"So you're probably here to see Doctor O'Rally; he's my husband," the woman said.

Well, wasn't this information good to learn. The two twins were O'Rally's, and their father was the head doctor here. It was like hitting two birds with one stone.

Their mother sat beside Aubrey, filling out some paperwork. Yet Hope's entire mind wasn't focused on that. If she did die, she could probably figure out a way to get ahold of whatever the true reasoning behind everything was.

Bullying for power was nothing compared to this. If these two girls had amazing powers of some sort, she had to get them somehow.

"Hope Prices," she flickered her gaze to a short nurse with curly blue hair.

She slowly stood with Aubrey holding her arm before glancing back at one of the twins with a smirk. She knew what her plan would be if she died, but she didn't want to leave her sister.

The nurse brought them into a small white room with a computer, two hospital chairs, and a hospital bed. There was a poster of the human body and one large window that overlooked the parking lot.

The door opened to a tall man with slick blond hair and blue eyes. He was holding a tablet in one hand, while the other had some documents in hand.

"Hi, I'm Doctor O'Rally. I presume you're Hope?" She slowly nodded.

Micheal sat down on the chair near the computer to face the three of them. He handed the tablet to her mother, who stared with knitted eyebrows.

"The cells in her body are dying. The body has red and white blood cells. Red blood cells are what keep us alive, which coughing up blood has to do with your organs slowly shutting down," he informed. "Since they are disappearing at a rapid rate, I read over some of your tests. At most, she has two weeks left."

"Left for what?" Aubrey asked.

Hope knew exactly what he was implying. She could see her mother's eyes filling with tears as she placed the tablet on the desk beside her.

"Your sister dies, Aubrey," her mother mustered out.

Hope felt her throat fill with something as she covered a hand over her mouth, waving a hand for the garbage. The nurse handed it to her before she threw up. She wasn't used to actually throwing up blood but mostly coughing it up.

"For the next two weeks, you'll probably be throwing up a lot of blood. I know this isn't the news you wanted to hear from me," the doctor said.

Hope didn't know how to feel. On the one hand, she can get ahold of more power if she dies, meaning she could probably get a healthier body. On the other hand, she leaves Aubrey behind with just her parents.

"She'll be hospitalized for the time being. You're welcome to stay in one of the free condos in Claymore. The funding is donated by the hospital for your comforting stay. If you wish, Aubrey can attend Claymore's school," doctor O'Rally informed.

He handed her the tablet and looked down at some of the writing. There was information about how her large intestine had completely stopped working. Her lungs were filled with something that she didn't quite understand, but the darkness in the x-ray must be the effect.

"In all honesty, it's amazing she's still alive. Considering your blood levels and areas affected, most would have been dead by now," Doctor O'Rally said.

"And we can't do anything?" her mother's voice cracked, tears streaming down her cheeks.

Hope felt a poke in her arm, seeing the nurse insert an IV. This would be her hospital room for probably the next two weeks. That would give her time to create a plan, but feel her body slowly shut down.

Her mother slowly stood, wiping her eyes, and grabbed Aubrey's hand to walk out of the room. She assumed they needed air as she turned her eyes back to the doctor.

"You know why you're still alive, right?" he inquired.

"Secondary Rare," she spat some blood into the garbage. "We have healthier bodies that fight illnesses better than these randoms around here. You know about this because of your daughters, right?"

"Yes."

She knew it. They were the twins who would have more power than her, which would result in changing everything. It would give her amazing skills, which she could probably help Aubrey through her depression and her parents. Yes, that was an amazing idea.

"We'll leave you and come back later," he said, standing.

The nurse started setting up an oxygen machine with a heart monitor beeping at a normal rate. There was another IV in her opposite arm, along with some snacks on the desk.

Once the two left, she stuck out her palm for her cookies to come to her, but they didn't. She tried again, waiting like she normally did. Now, they weren't working. Was it because she could only use them in Whiterose? No, that's stupid because she should be able to use them anywhere.

Closing her eyes, she thought back to the girl who had just stared at her. She didn't say anything, but she felt empty when they went into the room.

"She sealed my powers," Hope growled with narrowed eyebrows. "Well, now I know exactly which twin will be my target once I'm gone."

Hope turned to look out the window into the large parking lot. It was like nobody ever came to this place. She wondered if they only sent those who were incurable or had no idea what they had.

There was a knock on her door that she expected to be the doctor, but it was the person she saw in the magazine. He was dressed in a police officer's uniform and wearing a small smile.

"I'm sure you're unaware, but I'm the head police chief of Claymore. My name is Jackson Kenny," he said.

Hope coughed up more blood before cocking an eyebrow at the man. "So you come to wish all the dying patients a farewell? Skip the pity party. If you are a head cop or whatever you call it, shouldn't you be out stopping crimes?"

"Claymore is a town free of crimes," he informed. "I also know your mother and father from high school."

Free of crime, huh? That sounded like some cliche line from some sappy book. There isn't a town free of crime, but learning that and about the Rare twins made all this sweeter.

"You talk very maturely for your age," he said, laughing slightly.

"I'm intelligent," she said with a smirk. "Don't consider me some feeble child just because I throw up blood. Maybe you should consider watching your town closely."

Jack's smile dropped, like he realized something. He glanced back at the closed hospital door before looking at the oxygen machine.

"Do you know something about my town?" he asked.

"How could I know something? I'm the dying child," she snarked. "If some event does prevail, I won't be there to have a pity party."

The door opened back to her mother, who stared at Jackson for a moment. She could sense the tension, like it wasn't a matter of being exes or lovers.

"Doctor O'Rally offered us to stay in those apartments, Jackson," her mother said.

Hope could spot the hatred in Jack's round eyes, but he kept a smile. It made her know exactly why he hated her mother, despite not directly saying anything.

"We'll get that set up," he said dryly. "Is Maven joining?"

"We haven't discussed that yet."

"I should be leaving," Jack said, slowly walking to the door. "I'm sorry about your condition."

The room fell silent when Jack left, except for the beeping of the heart monitor. Aubrey slowly walked over with her head down and sat down on the blue chair next to her bedside.

"Maybe there will be a way," Aubrey whispered, eyeing her with watery eyes. "Maybe a miracle will happen."

Hope nodded with a small smirk curving her lips. Her body was dying, but her mind wasn't going to. This whole town of Claymore had the Rare twins, a strange police head, and was free of panic. If Jackson or someone else did anything, her first priority would be one thing: murder.

Bullying was nothing but taunting and laughing out of sheer enjoyment. It made her feel superior because they didn't have supernatural powers or weren't considered powerful.

"Remember, we're a demon and an angel," Hope whispered. "I'll find a way if something happens."

The past can't be changed, but she knew the only solution to gaining power was to understand this stupid town. If the town worshipped Jackson like a king, she'd make them fall.

"Hope, we have to check into that place and start moving things," her mother said, wiping an eye. "We'll be sure to visit every day."

"How do you know Jackson?" Hope questioned, her eyes on her mother.

"Me and your father, we..." she trailed off. "Bullied him in elementary and middle school."

This explained why Jackson acted so stiffly around her, but bullying was fine. People needed to hear the harsh truth or get revenge for something that someone had done to them.

Aubrey wasn't a big fan of the bullying Hope did, but she assumed that it was for the right reasons. She supported her with those she chose to bully and taught her how to prevent people from standing up for others.

"We stopped in high school because there really was no purpose," her mother sighed. "This is why I didn't want you bullying people."

Hope flickered her gaze towards the window. It was cloudy and now raining, with someone running inside the hospital. She knew she had no choice but to wait her days out until that moment.

"You don't have to put on a strong image; Hope, you're allow to cry." Aubrey's voice cracked.

Yet she wasn't putting on an image. It's been something she knew would come at some point, so it wasn't surprising she was going to die. Then again, she wasn't exactly an emotional person when it came to things resolving around death.

"We'll see you tomorrow," her mother said, grabbing Aubrey's hand.

They walked out of the room with the large door shutting behind them. She coughed up more blood in the garbage before flopping back down on her pillow.

She had to create a plan when she died. She could tell Aubrey her plan, but that'd just place more of a burden on her. That wouldn't work, which meant she needed to find a way to get her sealed power back.

Hope reached over and grabbed the silver tablet that her mother left for her to play on. She pulled up the internet and started researching articles related to Claymore and things that have happened in this town.

"Gathering for Uyen Gather's death? What the hell?"

She read it that talked about how the town has funerals all together. It's mandatory for people to attend, even if they don't even know the person. It was supposed to resemble respect for the families and others who died.

There was more information about the small crimes that did happen in the town, like theft, but nothing more. Did people not report these crimes to the police at all?

She spotted one document that made a smirk curve her lips. It was reported and documented by scientists in Clay that research about how identical twins of the same gender weren't normal.

Suddenly, she felt something strike her mind. It wasn't something that made her feel dizzy, but it was information. Maybe from someone, but now she was slowly remembering what was happening.

"The repeat is happening," she whispered with a devious grin. "It's time to complete what needs to be done this time."

Looks like there's no stopping history anymore. Now that they're back in the past, let's see how things will change.
