Chapter 20

They all ran to Amos, pulling him into a hug as Shivat ran in scratched and chipped, snuggling against Queen Stellina's legs. "Where were you? What happened?", Queen Stellina asked. Amos clutched his burned hand, biting back a grunt of pain. "I tried to find her, but evidently I wasn't successful." "We even said that we stay together when possible", Celeste reminded him, healing his hand. "Well sometimes plans have to be broken!," he called out frustrated. "That's enough, you guys! Why are we arguing at a time like this?", the queen asked irritated. "You're right, we're sorry", Amos said. "Thank you Celeste."

Celeste shrugged her shoulder, bending down to rubbed Shivat's back. “You're okay sweetie” "Rose, don't do something you will regret later, okay? Celeste is right. I know you have a good heart and you don't want her to go through this again, but we have to", Amos said trying to convince her. Rose huffed with her hand to her head. "Alright fine,"she said quietly. Queen Stellina eyed everyone, fearful of their fates. "I really wish we had more time but you have to leave again." They all nodded in agreement. "When will Mare wake up?", Mila asked biting her lip. "Now", Celeste said, staring down at Mare. Just as she claimed it, Mare woke up, water gushing out from the pores of her skin. "Mare! You're awake!", Mila exclaimed hugging her tightly. Mare giggled lightly, then stopped when she stared into everyone's eyes. Mare looked down as her death came to mind. "I died."

Rose dropped her head. "I know. I didn't want to bring you back because I don't want to see you die again." Mare stood up and embraced Rose. "Thank you, but I pledged on our lives that I would offer my best to help the queen take her throne rightfully." Mare stepped back and spewed water from her hands. "I'm ready." Queen Stellina nodded and opened the opal doors, revealing a pitch black sky with deadly lightning, then she quickly shut the doors. They all huddled in a group, fear painted on all their faces. Queen Stellina’s eyes widened. "This is far more worse than the prophecy predicted. I hope we can all handle this”. Rose let go of Celeste’s arm. “We have to. I’m feeling ready”, she stated, determination filling her voice. They all turned to Rose and gasped.

Her veins illuminated the room, gold light filling the space around her, the gold flecks in her eyes contagiously spreading down to her neck. “She’s at her strongest point, we have to leave now before all her energy is drained,'' Mila said. Queen Stellina nodded her head, anxiety overwhelming her. They walked past the queen, but Rose turned back. “Promise me you’ll come back alive”, the queen pleaded, tears sliding down her face. “I will try, but I can’t make promises,'' she responded, her voice stern. "Well, you have no choice, you are going to be queen.", Queen Stellina said, lightly chuckling. Rose gave her a half smile.

Turning her back, she stormed through the darkness of the once beautiful land. Before Queen Stellina closed the doors, she watched Rose become distant through the crack of the doors. Leaning her head on the doors, she cried out loudly. “Be strong, Rose. I believe in you. You have my faith”.

“We split if necessary. From now on, you all follow my instructions no matter what," Rose said, chasing the direction of the storm, until they all began to take off into the night. The night that could change fate. “Do you know where we’re going?”, Amos asked panting. “Just follow the eye of the storm”. “Isn’t the eye the calmest point?”, Celeste asked, picking up her speed. “Not this time”, Rose called. The storm lit fire on the path they ran, lighting up the darkness of the night. “Rose..wait”, Mila called out. “There’s no waiting!” They all halted to a stop, there features smothered in shock. Without Rose feeling it, her body was off land, levitating in a cloud of golden light, the burning trees at an even level. Shivat barked, pouncing up and down.

They all glanced at each other in disbelief. Celeste swirled her arms in the air, electric blue light circling their bodies, swooping them into a platform of blue magic in attempt to keep Rose’s pace. Shivat whimpered in confusion, her legs kicking to stay down on the ground. As they glided their way back to the kingdom of darkness, Rose had fallen to the ground gracefully. Mila exchanged Mare a concerning look. “Where did she go?”, Amos asked drawing his sword. Celeste glanced forward, floating in the speed of lightning. “I caught a glimpse of her, keep going”. Mare directed, pointing past blackened trees. Celeste pushed her arms forward propelling them quickly. As Celeste caught Rose sneaking to the back of the castle, she tossed a white star at her as Rose’s head shot up. Rose pointed to the doors of thorns. Amos nodded at the small group as they dispersed.

Celeste chased Rose into the back of the castle, soaring up to an open window. As they crawled through the window, the slight crunching of dead petals sounded.

“What are you doing?”, Celeste whispered. “Going to kill her, brutally,'' she answered as her blue eyes swirling with gold. “Alright. Amos and the others entered through the other sides. Where do you think she is?” “Right here, little loves!”, a wicked voice interrupted. Rose and Celeste screamed and stumbled backward. Queen Spina held a ball of fire in her hand, her eyes glowing like fire. “I heard you’re looking for me! I’M HERE, MY ROSE!”, the wicked queen sing-songed, thrusting the ball of fire at them both. “Don’t CALL ME THAT!”, Rose screamed, throwing herself at Queen Spina. Her pointy fingernails dug deep into Rose’s throat, drawing blood. In response, she cried out as she wrapped her lighted around her long neck.

Celeste grunted as she unleashed a swarm of shooting stars. Rose gasped as the shooting stars ran through her body, slamming right into Queen Spina’s chest, only for the cluster of stars to spill out again. Rose kept her grip on her throat until she stopped moving. Removing her shaky hands, she breathed heavily. Amos, Mila, and Mare raced in, a cluster of vines and water. “Rose! Stay back!”, they all screamed. “No, it’s okay”, Rose said. But she spoke too soon. Queen Spina’s arms began to tremble, thorns rapidly racing for Rose’s torso. “NO!”, Celeste cried. Queen Spina stood up as quick as a spreading fire. Celeste was knocked to the floor harshly with a chilling crack. “Celeste!”, Rose screamed, battling the thorns as they kept their tenacious grip. Amos sliced the thorns from Rose, cutting her arms. Mila once again wrapped her vines on Queen Spina, but she freed her ankles by blasting a fireball, burning the vines to ashes.

Just when Mare was ready to put out the fire, Fiama wrapped her arms around her torso, heat steaming from her body. Rose rolled away from the sliced thorns, reaching for Celeste, but she had faded into thin air. “No! CELESTE!”
