The Wisdom of a Prankster

AN: I wanted to make this chapter a little more dramatic to make up for my lateness in updating. I hope you like it!

-A Little Over a Week Before Christmas-
Fred hadn't planned on going to the library that day. In fact, the ginger teen didn't think he'd set foot in it since freshman year. And, even now, it wasn't on purpose. He was running from a large, rather grumpy Slytherin boy who had not appreciated the prankster spiking his goblet with an ear-enlarging potion at breakfast. The library had been the most convenient hiding spot at the time.

Once he was sure he had lost the sixth year snake the Gryffindor let out a breath of relief and was about to exit again when he saw another redhead browsing with a book on hand, deep in thought.

He snuck up behind the witch and put a hand on Anna's shoulder before shouting, "BOO!"

In hindsight, sneaking up on a highly trained Auror and generally epic witch (in his opinion) was probably not the best idea.

Before he had even finished saying the word, the professor had taken ahold of his hand and flipped him judo style, knocking the wind out of him. Anna gasped, "Oh, fudge! I'm sorry Fred! I didn't know it was you! I've been so jumpy today!"

Her worried, apologetic ramblings, however, ceased when the trickster laughed, peeling his face from the carpet, "That was so cool! Where did you learn that?" She shook her head in exasperation but answered the question anyway, "Before being aloud to chase after death eaters, you must first know how to defend yourself with whatever weapon the situation gives you, whether that weapon be a wand, a sword, or your bare hands."

Fred was quiet for a moment before grinning, "Wicked!"

She rolled her eyes, "So, what are you doing here?" He didn't bother lying. She was the one teacher that he knew wouldn't punish him for a prank, "I was sort of hiding from this guy I pranked this morning but I think I lost him. How about you?" She shrugged, "I came here to think but I thought I would pick up some new reading material while I was here."

He gave her a once over before concluding, "You're worried about Harry."

"Am not."

"Are too. You only make that face when you're worried about him."

She looked at the twin with surprise, "I'm impressed. When did you learn to read expressions." He looked at her pointedly, "You're avoiding my question."

She sighed, "I just don't think Harry would appreciate me talking about him to one of his friends." Fred made a 'zipping' motion over his mouth, "My lips are sealed."

"Alright, fine. I'm worried about him because he didn't tell me that every time a Dementor makes him pass out, he can hear his mothers screams. Why wouldn't he tell me? Does he not trust me? Did I do something wrong?" Honestly? Anna hadn't been expecting Fred to be serious about this, but at that moment, he truly was sincere about wanting to help her. Perhaps she had a greater influence on him than she had previously realized.

The wizard sighed, "I don't think Harry was holding that back because he doesn't trust you. He was holding back because he didn't want to hurt you by bringing up your twin sister's death." His gaze became pained and sympathetic, "I can understand why he would too. Lily was your twin and, I don't think I could bear it if George died. Harry is just incredibly selfless and he would never do something he thought might hurt you."

The witch was stunned, "Wow, who knew you could be so deep?" He just shrugged and Anna sighed, "I just wish I could find a way for him to go to Hogsmede or to cheer him up at least." She winced as she remembered the crestfallen look on Harry's face when second Hogsmede trip had been announced.

The teenager smirked, "You can leave that to George and I."

Before she could respond he ran out and the professor shook her head, "That boy would've made a mighty fine marauder."

-Hogsmeade-
This time, Anna and Remus went with the children to Hogsmeade to pick up Christmas presents and to take a stroll down memory lane. It was chilly out so Anna had on a red scarf and black gloves on along with a thick black trench coat over her white turtle neck and jeans because sometimes wizard/witch attire was just not warm enough for the winter weather. She and her husband strolled passed the shops with his arm wrapped tightly around her.

She had already picked up a few things from a some places like some self-warming socks for Dumbledore from Gladrags Wizardwear or a potion labeling kit with a test tube rack and a few other potion related items for Severus.
The witch was just passing HoneyDukes when she felt someone bump into her, she turned to see who it was only to find that there was no one there. She stayed still for a few more seconds before Remus tugged her forward, eager to buy some chocolate.

When she stepped inside the store, the peculiar incident immediately disappeared and was replaced with the promise of sweets. Her mouth positively watered but her reaction was nothing compared to the werewolf's when the display stand that contained all of the chocolate treats in the store caught his eye. She laughed and filled her own little bag of sweets.
Afterwards, the witch and werewolf went to 'Dogwood and Deathcap', a herbology shop that sold many varieties of plants. Anna had expressed to Remus beforehand about how she was determined to get Neville Longbottom a Christmas gift that year and he had no complaints.

For old times sake, the couple ventured into Zonko's Joke Shop. She had missed the place and she wanted to pick something up for Fred and George, especially since Fred had been such a great help in the library. The witch got plenty of Dungbombs, Hiccough Sweets, Frog Spawn Soap, and Nose-Biting Teacups along with some Zappy Gum, which sent an electric shock (only powerful enough to do little more than alarm the chewer) through your mouth when chewed.
Finally, when the couple was just headed for Hogsmeade station after visiting a few more stores and buying a few more gifts, Remus chuckled when he saw one building in particular that brought up some memories. Anna laughed as well when she saw the sign above obnoxiously pink establishment that read 'Madam Puddifoot's Tea Shop'." Now that brought back some memories.

For whatever reason, James had thought the lovey doves café was the perfect site for his and Lily's second date. So, although Anna had warned him against it, he took her out on the date. Anna was most definitely not surprised when Lily had returned to their shared dorm that evening with a look of slight irritation. Apparently the place had been even worse than the name suggested. Not only was the decor tacky and too girly, it was crowded, the Valentines day confetti got in her tea, the air was thick with expensive perfumes that Anna's twin claimed to have given her senssory overload, and the tea itself wasn't even all that great. All of the marauders but James found the tale extremely amusing.

-Back at Hogwarts with Harry-
Harry had been in a good mood until he had overheard an alarming conversation between Fudge, Hagrid, Rosemerta, and McGonagall. His head was still spinning as he sat with Ron and Hermione the next day, still tired from staying up all night thinking.

Black had been his father's best friend? He had already figured that Black had known his father and essentially betrayed him but he had not known that at all. And that hadn't been all he had heard. Apparently, the man who was trying to murder the 'Boy-Who-Lived' was also his godfather. And James Potter wasn't the only one who was betrayed.
Hagrid had been the one to reveal it after drinking a couple of pints and getting a wee bit tipsy.

Apparently Black was also Anna's friend and she had even considered him a brother just like James, then the man had backstabbed her by killing two of the most important people in her life. And, as if that wasn't enough, the poor girl hadn't been told about her sister's death the way everyone else was. Anna only found out about Lily and James when she was arrested by a fellow Auror in front of her colleagues for suspicion of being a spy for Voldemort, when it was in fact Black who was guilty. The first day or two after the death of the Potters was spent defending her case against the ministry. No one even believed her until the day Black killed those people and revealed himself for what he was, a dirty rotten traitor.

Or at least, that was what Hagrid said.

The trio had been absolutely dumbfounded by the news and interested to hear more but decided against it. If Harry had been through something like that, he wouldn't want anyone to bring it up. So he decided that he would keep quiet about it, but he was still seething even after spending a whole night wide awake thinking about it.

Harry sat in the common room with his friends pondering this. It was the first day of the break so they were the only ones there. The more he thought about Sirius and all he had done, the angrier he got. In fact, he was even considering exacting revenge. After all, who gave him the right to do what he did to Harry and his Aunt Anna? He was just so torn. Part of him wanted to kill the criminal, but another part said told him that it wasn't right, that Anna wouldn't. Hermione and Ron were concerned about Harry. They knew their friend wasn't a murderer but they also Harry would do anything for the people he loved.

Ron, seeing how they weren't getting through to his best friend, suggested they go to Hagrid's and talk to him. Not knowing what else to do, Harry agreed ignoring Hermione's protests. Before he left the common room he let his hand slide into his pocket just and his fingers grazed over the corners of the gift Fred and George had bestowed upon him, a guide made only for the most mischievous pranksters of Hogwarts, the Marauder's Map.

AN: I thought Fred needed some development in the plot. I hope he wasn't to out of character. I also hope this chapter's not too confusing.

Either way, thanks for your patients and happy holidays! (I can't believe I got to the Christmas part of the book just in time! That was not planned whatsoever!)
