Ask Anna (Part 2)

Hello, all! Gosh it was so great to hear from you guys! Your enthusiasm for this story is truly inspiring. It makes me a better writer! Consider this Ask Anna my present to you guys!

Be aware: For some of these I altered the question slightly or only took a piece of it to make things easier on me. I hope you guys don't mind! ALSO, I'm sorry if I wasn't able to get to your question! I worked really hard on this though so I hope you all enjoy it, regardless!

Now let's get right to it, shall we?

~Question to the author: Will you consider having Anna help out a ittle little bit Draco in sixth year? I would like to see him warm up to her since she's so friendly.~
From: @Gemidosde_Jungkook

Answer: Oh, believe me, I won't be leaving out Draco! He's gonna get emotional support and validation, whether he wants it or not! Anna may not like his dad, but she doesn't hate Draco. However, Draco needs to show that he has vulnerable side before she can do anything for him. She can't truly help him unless he is ready and willing to accept that help.

Also, I want to say that Anna doesn't hate Slytherins, she just feels a little competitive against them as a Gryffindor. Even McGonagall gets that way sometimes, if you read between the lines. What Anna hates is authority and prejudice. She, of course, has her own biases. She is a bit more attached to the Gryffindors and she has had some bad experiences in the past with Slytherin, BUT she is also best friends with Snape. Snape, as I see him, was a decent man that was drawn in by the wrong crowd (future minions of Voldemort) as a student, which lead him down the wrong path. Anna gave him hope and helped him fight off his... darker inclinations.

I understand if you disagree with those statements but that's how I see it!

~Dear Anna,

How does it feel to have Harry as a nephew?~

From: @0ph3l1a

Anna:  It's nice to have a piece of James and Lily back in my life. It's also a treat to watch him grow as a wizard. Most of all, I hope to keep him safe for at least a little while longer. He deserves to be happy. Children and, yes, even teenagers, need a support system to fall back on. I am thrilled for the chance to provide that for him but I am terrified that I will fail.

Still, when I see his face light up when I walk into the room, those negative thoughts drift away. He is my home away from home. I am extremely proud of Harry. He may not see it, but his heart holds tremendous strength. I cannot wait to see the wizard that he turns out to be. My only hope is that I can help him on the way to becoming the brilliant and compassionate man he is meant to be.

~Dear Anna,
Did you ever have a big fight with Lily for befriending the muararders? If yes then when was the biggest fight and what happened??~

From @SohaliaMohammad8

Anna: Lily...we didn't have shouting matches or anything but we would bicker every once in a while. She was really worried about me being kicked out of school for all of the mischief the boys and I caused. She knew how much I loved magic, so she was well aware of how devastated I'd be if I were expelled. So, she would lecture me some of the time and give me the cold shoulder whenever she felt I did something too risky. However, she saw how happy I was with the boys. At our house in our muggle neighborhood, I didn't have many friends. I never got along with the neighborhood girls. I had insatiable hunger for exploration, learning, and adventure that most muggles steered clear of. Even Lily's few muggle friends didn't seemed a bit put off. Being a marauder made me feel free.

I miss her dearly.

I miss cheering her up and making her laugh. I miss even miss her scolding me after I've but off more than I could chew. We had our little disagreements but, overall, she was a pillar of strength and support in my life. She kept my head on straight and gave me the push I needed when I needed it. I can only hope to be half of the woman she was for Harry.

~Dear Author & Anna,
What's your favorite animal? (Other than a fox, wolf, dog, or stag.) ~

From: @FawnTriedColt

Me & Anna: *sitting on a couch snuggling Holly, Crookshanks, and Loki*

Me: Cats.

Anna: Agreed. *scratches underneath Holly's chin*

Anna: *whispers* And dragons.

~Dear Remus,
What made you love Anna so much?~

From: @BlackOrchids_

Remus: *Blushes* Er...Ahem....well she's just so... You know! And her eyes are like....wow! And her smile...*beginning to mutter and ramble to himself*

*15 minutes later*

Remus: So...Does that answer your question?

Me: Well, um, not really.

Remus: Errr... Okay let me try again.

*Remus closes his eyes and take a deep breath. When he opens his eyes again, they look soft, thoughtful.*

Remus: Anna... She has been broken many times in her life. She has seen death and heartache and despair. ....But the more fate pushes her down, the stronger she becomes. Her spirit is a roaring flame. She is a phoenix, forever rising, forever soaring, forever free. She is beautiful and brave and just so BRIGHT. For a long time, I lived a cursed life, dreading each month that passed. I thought that there was no way I could find happiness or acceptance. Anna, she brought me hope. She lit the path for me to find happiness.

Remus: I love her because...Merlin, how could I not?

Remus: *looks at me, blushing* W-was that better?

Me: YES 😭

~Dear Aurthor,
What do you think of all the controversy over J K's tweets?~

From: Fred_George_Weasley

I don't want to reveal too much about my identity, but I wanna say that I have taken college courses in Women and Gender Studies. As such, I find J.K. Rowling's assertions to be both morally wrong and factually incorrect.

Rowling complained about a COVID pamphlet using the phrase "People who menstruate" rather than just saying "Women", BUT there are several people who menstruate who are not cisgender women . Transwomen may be one of those groups but also some trans men, non-binary, and intersex individuals. Not to mention, there ARE cisgender women that have medical conditions that cause them not to menstruate. If the pamphlet had just said "women" in place of "people who menstruate" then that would be misinforming and confusing to several individuals. That would include women who are pregnant or on menopause. It would also leave transgender and intersex people confused about whether the warnings given apply to them.

A TRUE feminist (in my opinion) would celebrate the fact that a health organization is willing to be flexible in order to serve ALL types of people rather than sticking to the heteronormative agenda that typically ignores the LGBTQ+ community. It is important that the medical community is equipped to help any and every individual they come across.

I believe Miss Rowling misunderstood the backlash she got from her Tweet. She thinks that people are trying to get rid of the word "woman" all together or something. That's not at all what people were trying to tell her. They were trying to tell her that she is being closed minded about what makes a woman a woman. Having a period isn't the defining characteristic of womanhood. It is a common symptom of womanhood but menstruation is NOT what makes a woman a woman.

I enjoy the Harry Potter series but that does not change the fact that I am very frustrated with J.K Rowling for her ignorance and close mindedness.

~Dear Anna,
Since both of your sisters are named after flowers, if you could change your name to be one too, what would it be? (Indirectly asking what your favorite flower is).~

From: @Hope_Spirit169

Anna: Funnily enough, Sirius's nickname for me (Annabelle), is technically already a flower name. It is called the Annabelle Hydrangea. As for my favorite flower....well there are a lot of flowers that could easily be my favorite: peonies, daffodils, tiger lilies, sunflowers, roses...I love them all!

(Me: Fun fact! Delphiniums are Sophia's favorite flower.)

~ Dear Anna,
Have you & Lupin considered adoption?~

From: @MrsRoderickHeffley

Anna: Of course we have, but the ministry doesn't think that a werewolf should be allowed to adopt. They are convinced that Remus would tear them to shreds. I have been working on ways to get through to them but it's not easy to preach at those who refuse to listen. Besides, they see me as a wild card; a radical witch that breeds nothing but chaos. When I was younger, I had a few instances when I couldn't control my magic. James' parents and Dumbledore helped smooth things over for me with the ministry but, regardless, I gained a reputation of being 'difficult' and things haven't gotten much better since then. I still have hope that I can at least convince them to let me take care of Harry.

~Dear Snape,
How much do you love Loki?"~

From: @MrsRoderickHeffley

Snape: *petting Loki with an unreadable (and very serious) expression on his face* I've only had Loki for a short amount of time...

Snape: But...if anything were to happen to him I would kill everyone in this comment section, then myself.

Me:...

Snape:...

Loki: *purring in Snape's lap*

Me:...

Me: Ummm.... Okay... Next question!

~Dear Anna,

Did you ever date anyone else before Remus?~

From: @Lucifernotlucius

Anna: *mumbles*

Sirius: What did you say, Annabelle ? Speak up!

Anna: I SAID REGULUS!

Sirius: Eww really?! That's super weird.

Anna: *flustered* He was sweet to me okay? It was just a couple dates! In secret! Not a big deal!

Sirius: Hold on! Can't we just talk about th-

Anna: Nope. We're moving on. Not. Another. Word.

~Just supporting you  Severus,
Honesty I think that most people just miss understand you, like maybe James, he didn't understand what you went through as a child, how much pain it caused you, losing your mother was probably very hard for you, I just want to say, there are many people that had the same thing happen to them.~
From: @llaaaloo

Severus: *snorts* Potter so very rarely managed to see the full picture; always too hung up on the little things. His own problems, his own biased view of what was right and what was wrong; that was all he cared for. If James knew about my mother's death, I would not expect sympathy from him. Rather, I would think that he would assume that I had ended her life by my own hand. In his eyes, I could only be a villain. There is no room for sympathy in the mind of a 'hero' blinded by his own ego.

Question Severus,
~What's it like to be a death eater....... I just wanted to know.......not that I'm planning on joining or anything...............no I'm not joining....~

From: @llaaaloo
(AN: For this response I am assuming that you are between the ages 11-18)
Severus: *unamused/unimpressed* It is like signing away your own soul to the devil. The dark mark is a curse. For a child to take on that burden by there own free will, is the act of a naïve fool who doesn't know the stench of death . Neither do you know the burn of the Dark Lord's call. The searing pain in your arm, crawling under your skin. If you do not appear when you are called you, he will punish you as a coward.

Severus: The people who join the Dark Lord, do it for the potential payoff they hope to receive in return for their services once he is victorious. Anyone who joins The Death Eaters for glory, status, or fun will be sorely disappointed. No matter what way you look at it, you are a mere goon for a man without mercy. The only friends you will be able to hold onto are likely the ones that will eliminate you at the very twinge of all weakness. Death eaters are the slime that feeds on the scraps of the powerful, but whimper and crumble the minute their resolve is tested. If you wish to join, that is of little consequence to me, but I hope that the scraps that you receive from your new master are worth losing all that you leave behind.

Anna: *teasing*Wow, Sev! Could it be that you actually CARE about this girl?

Severus: *flushes* Not in the slightest. What on Earth brought you to such a preposterous assumption? I'm merely punishing a student for their frivolous attitude.

Anna: *sing song voice* Sounds like you don't want them to do something they'll regret!

Severus: *turns around, letting  his black robes flare dramatically* *leaves*

Anna: *snickers*

~Dear author,

What inspired you to write The Other Aunt? ~

From:@Slytherclaw141 & others

Me: Well, Anna was partially inspired by my aunt. She's infertile but she's so lovely and strong! She's great with kids and is super funny! The actual idea to give Harry a family member to look out for him came to me after watching him interact with Sirius as Godson and Godfather. Harry just seemed so desperate for someone to lean on, to support him and tell him that everything will be okay.

That's why I gave him Anna.

~Dear Anna,
Which marauder is your favorite after Remus? ~

From: @Gryffindorgirlginny

Anna: Me! Duh! *throws confetti*

James & Sirius: *pouts*

~Dear Anna,

If there was a Severus and Marauders fight and you had to pick a side who would you choose?~

From: @Gryffindorgirlginny

Anna: I know this is sort of a boring answer but...it honestly depends on the situation. I normally try to avoid picking "sides", though because that's just asking for trouble. Normally, I just try and knock some sense into them before someone gets hurt.

Past Lily: Or worse, expelled.

~Dear Anna,
How old are you? (Sorry if this sounds rude)

What's your birthday so I can send a present to you? :D~

From: @Firewolf0402

Anna: It's not rude at all! There's not a thing wrong with being curious! I'm 35 (same as Remus).

Anna: Oh! I would love it if you could send some toys for Holly and Loki! They are mischievous pair, those two!

Anna: My Birthday is the same as Lily's- January 30th. That makes me an...Aquarius I believe!

{Me: As a treat, here are some descriptions of Aquarius' that I thought suited Anna-

#1: "Rebellious in nature and unique, the Aquarius zodiac sign signifies intelligence, spontaneity and independence. Aquarians have an out of the box thinking and eccentric perspective." (Ganeshaspeaks.com)

#2: "These revolutionary thinkers fervently support 'power to the people,' aspiring to change the world through radical social progress. Every Aquarian is a rebel at heart: These air signs despise authority and anything that represents conventionality." (Allure.com) }

~Dear Anna
What happened with petunia to cause you guys to fall out so badly?
Was it because you were a witch?~

From: @Mopatop2005

(Here is the falling out that lead to Anna staying with James during the summer that Sirius got kicked out of his family's house)

*The summer of Anna's third year*

Petunia sat primly at her vanity. She had just removed the last curler from her hair and was now delicately applying blush to her cheeks.

Tonight was her big night.

Leonard Hugh Prescott, heir to the Prescott family fortune had asked her to dinner. HER. Even Margaret from her Maths class was jealous. Leonard's dad was her father's boss and so this was a big opportunity for their family to move up.

Finally, Petunia would be in the spotlight, rather than her sisters.

Petunia was had just put on her pearl earrings when a knock was heard at the door.

"Tuney?"

"Hm? What is it, Anna? I've got only a few minutes before he'll be here!"

" I know we haven't been getting along lately. I just... I have a present for you."

It was a beautiful pale pink flower, in full bloom. It's petals were stiffer, less delicate than a normal flower. Each one was decorated with odd spots and markings. It looked unique and elegant. Anna stepped behind Petunia's stool and grasped a lock of her older sister's hair. Petunia couldn't see what she did. It was almost as if a vine from the flower had wrapped itself around the curl, like a docile snake.

Petunia didn't think much of it, too focused on how wonderfully it matched the rosy color of her dress.

"Anna...I.." She was touched. She grasped Anna's hand, "Thank you, really. It's beautiful! I love it!"

Anna hugged Petunia tightly, "Have fun and be safe, Tuney. You deserve this."

----

Leonard picked Petunia up and took her to dinner. It was a formal, practical date, but she liked it that way. Just intelligent conversation. Nothing more. Nothing less.

It all went as planned.

Well...almost.

He drove her home and walked her to her door step. He raised a hand to her cheek and leaned in close. His fingers gripped her hair to bring their lips to meet before-

"OW! What the- DiD yoUR HAIR JUST BITe-"

Petunia screamed as the flower that had been so delicately placed in her hair by Anna jumped off her head and launched itself on Leonard's face.

The flower's pertals moved as if they were a crab's legs or an octopus' tentacles as they climbed up to suction itself on the handsome face of Petunia's date.

Petunia screamed.

Her father came rushing outside and began yanking at the thing on her date's face until it finally popped off...taking part of Leonard's perfectly groomed eyebrow with it.

Petunia tried to put a hand on his shoulder but he ignored her completely, demanding access to a telephone so that he could call his father.

-------*time skip*--------

20 minutes later Petunia is sitting on the front steps of her house, her prim clothes and dress were in total disarray from the disaster that had taken place.

In the distance she could hear her father being chewed out my his boss.

Her eyes narrowed when she saw a spot of red hair kneeling near the bushes. Anna approached the monster that had attacked her date's face and held out her hand. The flower had gone limo on the ground after it had been subdued but, at Anna's command it lept to it's petal feet and crawled up her arm to perch itself in her curls,

The sight sent Petunia into a rage.

She recalled Anna's parting words to her when she left to go on her date, 'You deserve this.'

Anna....must've set her up. Everybody knows that she's a troublemaker, a rebel. To think that she would go this far for a prank though...it disgusted Petunia.

Even if it wasn't Anna's intention to ruin her date....even if it was an accident something that could create a creature so horrid out of something so delicate and innocent as flower...such a force must truly be foul.

----- (Anna's POV)------

Anna snuck out the back door of her home. She snaked through the garden and peered through the bushes.

She scanned the yard until....THERE! There it was!

She crept over to the limp creature.

"Puck?" She whispered, "Are you okay, bud?"

Puck trilled a soft, purring tone and scampered to it's creator, snuggling it's way into her red curls in less than a minute.

She sighed a petted his petals, trying to figure out what she had done for things to turn out so terribly.

Puck was a project that she had worked all of her third year on. Professor McGonagall had approached her, telling her that she had been charged with picking one hogwarts student from each year to represent their school for an exposition to show off and the magical talents and inventions of young wizards. The winner would get funding for their school and to whatever charity or program they wished.

Minnie had said that she had chosen Anna because of her creativity and innovativeness. Anna desperately wanted to prove that she had made the correct choice.

Anna had worked hard all year to try and produce something that would make her school proud. She worked closely with the herbology professor and Minnie just to be sure that she got every detail right.

The invention that she had created was called a "Petalpuck". It was a wearable creature that served a couple different purposes depending on how you trained it. One purpose the Puck could be used for was to fix hair. If an elderly witch/wizard or amputee needed assistance getting ready for the day, the Petalpuck could be a potentially handy tool with the right training.

Another use for the Petalpuck was self defense. Puck is made to attach to clothing or hair. It can even be disguised as corsage or boutonnière, if need be. If the Petalpuck thinks that their wearer is being threatened or harassed, the puck will launch itself at the attacker, thus allowing their owner enough time to escape and get help. Most of the time though, the Petalpuck was quite a docile pet. The perfect helper companion.

Anna hadn't won first prize. She hadn't even won runner up. ( First Place was a Beauxbatons student who had discovered a new form of flight-based Gravity magic and had demonstrated a new formula to calculate the speed that magic travels. The runner-up was Durmstrang student that had invented self-tying shoelaces. Go figure.)

However she was really proud of her invention and had wanted to prove it's usefulness.

That was when she decided to give it to Petunia.

Lily had warned her that it was a bad idea.

Petunia hated magic, especially when it involved Anna. During her first two years of schooling, Anna had a great deal of trouble controlling her magic. This had led to some...unfortunate mishaps that left Petunia and their parents less than pleased. Anna had been royally chewed out the year before when she'd accidentally lit Petunia's giant birthday piñata on fire. That had been...disastrous.

But she was over that now! She'd worked with Dumbledore to ensure that nothing like that ever happened again. Now this was her chance to at last prove it to Petunia and her parents.

Her parents adored Lily's tales of magic but were a little wary and disapproving of Anna's at times.

Anna just wanted them to trust her again.

So she gave Puck to Petunia. Just for one evening. She knew it would make Petunia happy. Petunia adored flowers. It would be the perfect way to get Petunia to trust her again. To show her that magic could be pleasant and helpful. Because it was a magical item and not a spell, she shouldn't get in trouble with the ministry. Nothing would go wrong. Petunia would have the perfect night. Not to mention, if anything tried to harm her on her date, Puck would ensure that Petunia would get home safe.

Everything should have gone fine.

Except...Anna had never had an opportunity to test run her invention in this kind of scenario.

Things went wrong. They went VERY wrong.

Puck most likely sensed that Petunia was nervous about her first kiss. That combined with the fact that her date touched his vines had triggered the self-defense protocol.

Whoops.

Now Anna was a mess of emotions, trying to figure out what the heck she was supposed to do now.

She spied Petunia on the front steps and tried to approach her. To explain.

"Tuney, I-"

"Don't." Petunia snarled

Tears and eye makeup ran down her cheeks as she took off into the forest.

-------
Anna crept quietly between the tress in the forest of her family's backyard, following the gentle sounds of sobbing.

'Maybe I can still fix this."

Past the trees of her yard was a small clearing that was home to a beautiful willow tree with a concrete bench.

Anna hid behind a tall pine and peeked around it at the figure sobbing at base of the willow.

There was a girl in a pale pink dress with a brown belt around her waist, tugged a little too tight.

Anna stepped forward quietly to put a hand on the young teen's shoulder but the girl whipped around and grabbed Anna's wrist.

"DON't tOUch ME, YOU F-FREAK!!!" The brunette pushed her sister away with a look in her eye that was down right venomous.

Anna's eyes watered, the word sent a stabbing pain in her heart, "Petunia...I didn't mean... I was only trying to..."

"I loved him. I've had a crush on that boy for nearly three years. Now he won't even look at me! I'm a laughing stock because I have a FREAK like YOU for a sister! You have been a stain on our family for far too long.."

"Petunia...I...I'm sorry..."

For the first time Petunia's furious brown eyes met Anna's jade green ones. The anger in Petunia's gaze faded until she just looked pained and confused.

"Dad is still upset with you...so is mom. Lily will be okay but....Anna I think it's best if you... left."

"W-what are you....you can't really mean-!"

The anger returned to Petunia's eyes, "You have been nothing but trouble ever since you start fiddling with... all of this nonsense about witchcraft!! You aren't happy here either. I can tell. All you do is write letters to people you'd rather be with and daydream! Face it, Anna. You aren't normal. You don't belong here. Lily, at least keeps to herself but YOU.... All YOU can talk about is your bloody magic and your ungodly abomination of a school. It's always 'magic, magic, magic' with you. Well- if you like magic so BLOODY MUCH- then do everyone a favor and make yourself disappear."

Anna now had angry tears streaming in river done her cheeks, "fINE! If that's really what you want then-"

She pulled out her wand and whispered, "Wish granted."

With a flick of her wand, Anna was gone. The spot in front Petunia was empty. Petunia stumbled backwards in shock. Her back came in contact with the willow tree's trunk. She slid down the trunk until she was crouched on the ground, sobbing into the cloth of her favorite dress.

'What have I done?'

In the distance a boy with dark hair was frozen stock still. Severus Snape clenched his fist and ran off to go find Lily.

-------

*Knock* *Knock* *Knock*

Anna stared expectantly at the large oak doors in front of her.

She heard the faint sound of the clicking of heels before the door opened to reveal the face of a distinguished, but beautiful looking older woman.

"Oh- Hello! Are you alright my dear? You don't look well?"

Anna was frozen, she realized that after all the emotions she'd just experienced, she had forgotten how to navigate normal civil interactions.

She felt so...blank. She hadn't thought about what came next. Did she have the wrong house? What if this was just a normal muggle woman?

At least one of those worries were immediately cleared away when a small, floppy-eared figure padded over to the doorway, "My apologies, Mistress! I had no idea that you had invited a guest! Should I put the kettle on?"

'A house elf', Anna's brain numbly acknowledged. This was her first time seeing one up close.

The woman's kind brown eyes stared into Anna's watery jade green ones for a moment before the ends of her lips turned upward into a gentle smile, "I think that is a wonderful idea, Wanda. If that is alright with you Miss..." She trailed off, waiting for Anna to supply her name.

Before she could respond, though, a boyish voice called from within the threshold, "Anna? Blimey! Is that you?"

Ah, that was James.

Another familiar male voice followed him, "ANNA IS HERE TOO?!"

The redhead breathed a sigh of relief as two boys her age ran to embrace her, "James. Sirius."

She looked up at the older woman, " So you must be..."

"Euphemia Potter, yes." She sighed, "I suppose you better come in for that cup of tea. I have a feeling that you a have a story to tell."

-------END------

(AN: The conflict between Anna and Petunia was not solely caused by the "Petalpuck" incident but that disaster was the final straw for Anna that lead to her staying with the Potters.)

~Dear author,

Question - how do you comd up with good ideas and a back story for stories like this?~

From: jessobase

Me: Well, for me, it was more about what would be the most fun and interesting thing to write. If you are going to write something, it has to be something that your aren't going to sick or tired of. So I decided to incorporate the parts of the HP books that inspired me the most in my writing. Things from the books that I wanted to expand on. Examples: the magical creatures, aurors, death eaters, the theme of kids having to grow up to fight a war, seers, werwolves, the ministry, prejudice, betrayal, family/friendship and (of course) the marauders. These are just some of the many things from the Harry Potter series that spark my creativity.

Me: These are all topics that I find it fairly easy to draw inspirations from. It also helps that the time line of the books keeps me from going all over the place when creating a backstory. They give me a basic time line that I can plug my character into wherever I want her to go.

Of course, there will always be times where writers block plagues me, BUT there are magical moments, especially late at night, where the words flow like water. That's when the best (and worst) ideas come. Make sure you write them down when they come to you!

I hope that's answer is good enough!

That's all for now everyone! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below! Happy holidays :)

Oh! Just because I'm curious: Are there any songs that remind you of Anna or Anna's relationships with other characters?
