Chapter 8

After my father tucked me in, and Uncle had brought me up some water, I must have drifted off at some point.

I awoke to someone gently shaking me awake. The duvet was over my face, so I couldn't see who it was, but for some reason I guessed it was Toshi again.

"I don't want any more water, Uncle Toshi." I muttered. "I just want to sleep."

"Uncle Toshi?" Oh fuck. I threw the duvet off and sat up, face to face with a shocked looking Mina. Oh shit. The rest of my friends were crowded around the doorway. Oh shit oh fuck oh fuck oh shit oh shit oh shit-

"I didn't say Uncle! You must have misheard me!"

"You said Uncle!" Sero confirmed.

"All Might is your Uncle?" Mido looked off, hand to his chin. "He never mentioned anything about any siblings, let alone any nieces or nephews."

"He's not my Uncle!" I blurted, covering my face. How could I be so stupid? Of course my friends were going to come and check on me!

"That's not what it sounds like." Katsu snarled.

"Ok, ok!" I took a deep breath before saying very slowly. "He's... A family friend... Real... Real close with my... parents - my dad. Close with my dad." That's not technically a lie. We aren't really related at all. But I still felt like I was being untruthful.

"He's best pals with your dad, so you call him Uncle?" Todo lifted his eyebrow.

"Yeah. He's been around all the time from when I was a kid. Babysat me a bunch of times and that. So I always just called him Uncle Toshi, and the title stuck. So now he's my Uncle." I looked around, desperate for them to accept my answer without prying too much.

"All Might as a babysitter." Ochaco giggled.
"I could never imagine him looking after a kid." Kiri added.

"Baby Hinami would be running circles around him!" Kami laughed.

"Well, I'd get him to let me eat ice cream before dinner. Once I had two bowls for breakfast."

"How did you manage that?" Sero grinned.

"He's a massive softy. I told him that if he didn't give me ice cream for breakfast, he wouldn't be my friend anymore. So we compromised and I had two bowls, and he was my best friend in the whole world." I laughed.

"Why does that somehow not surprise me..." Tenya sighed.

"We had fun, that's all that mattered." I smiled.

"No wonder you got into UA easily. You had the number one hero backing you up." Katsu's lip curled up in a snarl.

"It wasn't easy. I still had to do an entrance exam. So did Yaomomo and Todoroki." Todo nodded, confirming my words.

"Are you feeling okay now?" Mina butted in, not wanting another argument to ensue. "Sensei said that you got hurt."

"Oh. Yeah. I overused my quirk trying out Shatter, that's all. When I run out of power, the mirror smashes and I get a migraine. But that nap fixed me right up!" I grinned, jumping out of bed to emphasize my point.

"We're glad you're feeling better!" Smiling, Kami put his hands in the air.

"We are. Dinner should be ready now. So let's go and eat." Tenya ordered. Everyone started running downstairs. Katsu waited for me to catch up.

"Are you sure you're okay?" He asked quietly. He must have felt guilty or something, seeing as he was the one who 'encouraged' me to use Shatter. I nodded, absently running my hand along my grazed knuckles. Knowing I was lying, he stopped and grabbed my wrists.

"They just sting a little. I'm fine, though." He held my hands up to his face, examining them. Then, he gently pressed his lips against each of my knuckles, then the cut on my little finger. My face was burning and I could feel my heart hammering inside my chest.

"I- What are you-"

"That's what my mum used to do when I hurt myself as a kid." He shrugged nonchalantly before dropping my hands and walking towards the dining hall. After a second, I unfroze myself and quickly caught up with him. For some reason, I felt like I couldn't look at him, so I kept my eyes down.

"It feels much better now." I said with a small smile. He simply grunted in typical Katsuki fashion. As we sat down next to each other, I couldn't help but keep on smiling.

"Glad to see you're doing better, Hinami!" My dad grinned, giving me a thumbs up.

"Thanks, Mic!"

Dinner was Soba, courtesy of Todo and Mido.

"This is so good!" Uraraka gasped after the first mouthful.

"Couples who cook together, stay together." Mina winked at the two of them, causing Mido to go bright red.

"Then I suppose we'll be friends for a very long time. We work very well together, Midoriya." Todo said thoughtfully in his usual monotone way. I shook my head as Mido barely spluttered.

"N-no! She- she didn't mean it like- like that!" When Todoroki simply cocked his head to the side, he continued. "She meant like- like. A couple!" Suddenly getting the situation, Todo's eyes widened and he looked into his bowl, embarrassed.

"I understand." We all laughed at them. It was fun to see them like this. In fact, it's fun to see everyone acting so jovial. Even Katsu had a grin as he started making dumb competitions such as 'who can drink their drink the quickest'.

"That's so immature! Please take the time to properly enjoy the food that Todoroki and Midoriya made for us." Tenya scolded.

"You're just being lame because you know I'll kick your ass!" Katsu yelled. I giggled. How could someone be so different? His duality amazed me.

After dinner, we went to Sero And Kami's room again to goof around.

"Uraraka and Iida would make a cute couple." Mina declared.

"I saw Tsu and Tokoyami flirting. What about them?" Kami giggled.

"I feel like Tokoyami is secretly really romantic under that dark exterior." I giggled back. We had been discussing our classmates for the better part of forty five minutes. "I think he's one of the most mysterious people in the class. Along with that Shoji."

"Yeah yeah!" Kiri agreed.

"Do you know which classmate I hate the most?" Katsu started in his usual arrogant tone.

"DEKU!" We all yelled back before falling into fits of laughter.

"Actually, it's you." He pointed at me. I had noticed that he only said my name in front of other people once.

"Katsu-kun." I smiled, leaning towards him. "You don't hate me."

"I definitely do."

"Aw, that's only because I'm the only one who knows that you're actually a massive softy!" I pinched his cheek playfully and he pushed me away, explosions coming from his hands.

"Don't fucking touch me, liar!" Kiri jumped up and hugged Katsu tightly from behind, trapping the blonde's arms.

"Awww! We all know that you're a sweetheart, Bakubro. Don't try and hide it."

"Get off of me, shitty hair! I fucking hate all of you!" He yelled back, struggling to get out of Kiri's rock hard grip. We all ended up laughing again, Kami even rolling onto his back.

"I'll kill you all." Katsu declared when he was finally set free.

But before he could make good on that promise, Tenya rapped on the door and told us that it was time to go back to our own rooms. We all packed up before making our way to our rooms, following the same routine as we did the night before.

"Night, guys!"

"Sleep tight, Kiri."

"Don't let the bed bugs bite, shitty hair."

"Nighty night, Kirishima!"

We waved Kiri goodnight as he entered his room, leaving just me, Katsu, and Mina.

"Nighty night, Bakugo!" Mina grinned, entering our room, not expecting a reply.

"See you tomorrow, racoon eyes." He muttered back. She giggled, waved, then popped out of sight, leaving the door ajar for me. I looked at it, then at Katsu.

"Do your hands feel better?" He asked quietly, not looking me in the eye.

"Much better, thanks to you." I responded coyly. Instead of replying, he simply looked away, pink dusting his cheeks and ears. "Can I... Can I have a hug?" I suddenly asked. I knew he'd probably say no, but for some reason, I said it anyway.

"No."

"Your loss." I chuckled. "Sweet dreams, Katsu-kun."

"Yeah, whatever. Night, Hinami." He grumbled as he opened his door and quickly left me standing alone in the hallway. I sighed and turned to my own room.

When I got in, Mina was laying in her bed, already in her pyjamas. I silently picked my own pyjamas off of my pillow and started getting changed.

"Oh! When did you get in?" She asked as I pulled my top off.

"Uh. Ages ago. You looked absorbed in your phone so I didn't say anything."

"Haha! Sorry! I was texting Kirishima."

"You literally just saw him." I raised my eyebrows at her as her pink cheeks darkened.

"Y-yeah, well..." Smiling, I slipped a large white top over my head. It was actually my dad's, but I stole it ages ago when he was out on a mission and I missed him.

"Well, Kami so desperately wants a couple to get together so-"

"You're getting the wrong idea! We jus- well we- Okay! Maybe I think he's just a little bit cute!"

"I knew it." I grinned smugly as I turned my back to her and whipped my leggings off. Even though I couldn't see her, I could tell that she had a frustrated expression.

"Don't say it like that!" She whined "And don't tell anyone else!" I hummed playfully as I pulled my navy shorts up.

"What will I gain?"

"I won't tell anyone about your crush on Bakugo."

"Nice try. I don't have a crush on him though." Now she raised her brows at me.

"Not even the slightest bit?"

"Nope. I like teasing him. That's about it." I smiled innocently. I'd gotten to be a pretty good liar over the years.

"Well I still think you'd make a good couple." She sighed, turning over and pulling the duvet over her. "Get the light, would ya?" As I obediently flicked the light switch and laid down, I mulled over her words. We'd make a good couple... Nah. He wouldn't date me, he said so himself. It's not worth thinking about. After sending a goodnight message to my dads, I put my phone on charge and closed my eyes.

Argh! Why was I still awake? Rolling over and grabbing the phone, almost being blinded by the screen, I looked at the time and groaned. 12:37. Groggily sitting up, I decided to go see if anyone else was awake, because Mina was gently snoring. I could really do with some kitty cuddles from Ramen right about now...

As I exited the room, guided by my phone's flashlight, I saw instantly that Katsu's light was still on. What was he doing up? I knocked on the door gently and waited for a response. After getting none, I knocked again. He must have fallen asleep with the light on.

I slowly opened his door to see him standing at his window, leaning on the window seal with his elbows, back to me. He was wearing grey sweatpants, a loose blue top, and I could see the red 'All Might' band of his boxers. He wears All Might underwear, I thought amusedly.

Silently, I closed his door and went to stand beside him, copying his stance. We stood for a few minutes in silence. I'm not even sure if he realised I was there for a while. It was quite peaceful though.

"Why are you here?" He eventually muttered.

"I couldn't sleep." I replied quietly. "I saw your light was on, but you didn't reply when I knocked, so I came in. I thought you'd left your light on by mistake." He glanced at me before looking back out the window wistfully.

"Why couldn't you sleep?"

"I'm a bit of a night owl." The memory of me waiting up late a few nights ago with Dad, waiting for my father to come home, played over in my mind. There had been many nights similar. "You?"

"Promise not to tell anyone?"

"Of course."

"I'm homesick. I don't stay out often. I can't stand the old hag, but it feels really empty without our constant screaming matches. I bet my dad's glad for the quiet though." I guessed 'the old hag' was his mother.

"That's pretty cute." I stifled a giggle. He glared at me.

"Don't laugh."

"I'm sorry. I guess I don't get homesick, so I can't relate to you."

"Why not?" Turning his body towards me, he had an inquisitive look on his face, very different to his usual harsh expressions.

"Uh..." I couldn't exactly tell him that my parents were here. "Well I miss my cat. But I've got... my uncle, I guess. So I can still feel safe. Like I do at home. Although I'm not sure how much longer it'll be safe at school."

"What do you mean by that?"

"There's a group called the League of Villains. Apparently they've been making threats against the school and All Might. I didn't think anything of it because my uncle and Dad told me that it was nothing, and idle threats had been made for a long time. But then I got pulled aside to make sure I hadn't told anyone- wait. I wasn't meant to tell!" Gasping, I completely forgot that I was meant to stay quiet. I couldn't help it, I was just talking and-

"I won't mention it. I mean, it does sound like nothing, but I can see why those extras would be worried about it." He shrugged, leaning against the window again, still facing me.

"Those extras?" I laughed. He smiled with me, and I found my heart beating a little faster. When he smiled, his whole face looked softer and rounder. There's no denying that he's good looking, but now he just looked... pretty.

"What are you staring at, shit head?" He scowled, losing his newfound prettiness.

"Oh, uh. Nothing." Embarrassed, I looked out of the window again, and he joined me. After a few minutes of silence, Katsu turned to me again and started to mutter something nervously.

"I didn't catch that."

"I said... Would you... Would you like that, that hug now?"

"Yeah!" I smiled and wrapped my arms around him, leaning into his hard chest and getting a whiff of his sugary scent. His hands set gently on my waist for a moment, his whole body stiff and awkward. But, after a few seconds, he relaxed into my touch and put his arms around me, holding me tight, his cheek nuzzling into my dark waves.

"This is.. Nice." He hummed.

"You say that like it was unexpected."

"It was."

"Do you not get hugs often?"

"No." He replied after a pause.

"Not even from your parents?" Me and my dads had spent many nights tangled in a big ball of cuddles and fuzzy blankets on the sofa as a movie played in the background.

"I'm not big on physical affection. Or any kind of affection, really." He admitted quietly.

"We can tell." I couldn't help but smile. After a few moments, we went back to stargazing from the window. I leant my head on his broad shoulder, and he kept his arm around my waist.

"I like the stars."

"I always go hiking with my parents. I love hiking. When we get to the top, we sometimes camp out. I always sneak out of my tent and stargaze."

"I've learnt a lot about you tonight, Katsuki."

"You have?" I nodded. "I don't think I've learnt a lot about you..."

"Well 'a lot' is subjective. I'm a pretty open book. I have few secrets. You're more like a cactus."

"A cactus?" He growled, seemingly offended.

"You don't let people get close to you." He mulled it over for a moment before reluctantly agreeing with my comparison. We went back to silence.

And I realised that I never wanted that moment to end.
