Chapter 14
All night I was tossing and turning, thoughts of my parents, the LoV, and my uncle racing through my mind. I already knew that I wanted to make up with Father. I couldn't bare things being like this. I was also worried. Shigaraki said that he didn't have anything to do with writing the threats, so how could he be so sure that he could keep anything from happening to me or Midoriya? What if our families got dragged into it? What if something actually did happen to All Might? Worries consumed me until the early hours of the morning. Even cuddles from Ramen weren't putting my mind at ease. I scrolled through Instagram before getting a message.
Mr Boombastic: Why are you online? You're not usually up this early
funny you say that
not 'up early' so much as 'up late'
Mr Boombastic: HAVE YOU NOT SLEPT

My Boombastic: WHY NOT YOU FUCKING MORON

and there's no point going to sleep at this point
Mr Boombastic: You should have messaged me or something you dumbass
awww you DO care about me
Mr Boombastic: Shut up no I don't.
I'm going on my morning jog so piss off.
ok first of al, you messaged me first

Mr Boombastic: Dumbass can't even type right
OI
don't leave me on read!!!
!!!!
asshole!!!!
Even though our conversation was brief, and was cold on the outside, I smiled, feeling just a little easier now. Maybe I should follow Katsu's lead and go for a jog.
Nah.
Scrolling through my Twitter feed was a way better way to fill the time until it was acceptable to get up. I got up at about six, bringing Ramen out to the kitchen to eat breakfast with me. He meowed complacently and nuzzled into my arms. As I flicked on the kettle, Dad appeared. We looked at each other for a moment. He looked as rough as I probably did. Ramen greeted him by rubbing himself against his leg and purring loudly.
"Did you sleep well?"
"Yeah, great. What about you, sweetie?"
"Same here."
"Well I was going to cook you breakfast today. But you're up so you may as well help me!" He gave a big grin, which I returned.
"I was gonna make you breakfast!" We started laughing.
Working together, me and Dad made pancakes, cracking jokes the whole time. I couldn't help but feel the tension practically melt off of my shoulders, and it had been a while since Dad had genuinely smiled this much.
After eating our stacks of pancakes, I wiped some flour off of my dad's cheek and kissed him. Then I looked him in the eyes.
"Dad..."
"What's wrong, sweetie?"
Why won't you tell me the truth? Why didn't you back me up? Why didn't you back Father up either? Will I ever find anything out? Will I have to do this on my own? Why are all reports conflicting? What are you afraid of me knowing?
"I love you."
"I love you too. Now go get ready for school."
I stood outside the door to 1-A nervously. The bell had gone a minute ago. But here I still was... After taking a deep breath, I opened the door. Father was talking, but as soon as I stepped in, everything went silent and they all turned to stare at me. I was instantly unnerved. After looking around for a second, a bit like a deer caught in headlights, I decided to just get it over with. I walked over to Father's desk and took a deep breath.
"I'd like to apologise to you. I was very emotional and frustrated, but I shouldn't have taken that out on you by yelling at you, especially in front of the whole class. Will you still have me in class?" I bowed.
"Of course I will, silly girl. I accept your apology. And I'm sorry too." We shared a smile before he added. "You could have just said this before class, or even in the break."
"I berated you in public. It's only fair that I apologise in public. I also don't want the class thinking badly of me..." He looked over at me proudly.
"Go sit down." As I walked to my seat, I got a few smiles. Kiri even gave me a thumbs up.
"Now. I have a question for you all. What kind of hero do you want to be?" Nobody put their hand up. So Father went around the class. Most people gave generic answers such as 'someone who helps a lot of people'. Katsu said 'the best one'. When it got to me, I simply shrugged.
"Not even a lame answer to placidate me?"
"Nope. I don't know yet." He nodded and carried on.
The rest of the day went smoothly. Of course, I still wanted answers, and there was still a bit of frustration. But I felt like I could relax a bit more now.
At lunch, I sat at my usual place with the Bakusquad.
"If we had a reality TV show, we could be called the Bakugo Bunch." Kami announced as he sat down.
"That implies that we're all Bakugos. Like, we're all family." Kiri raised his eyebrow.
"Or we're all married?" I added. Katsu whacked my arm and I gave a dramatic 'ouch'. He simply rolled his eyes.
"I'm glad you apologised to Aizawa. It was so awkward after you left." Mina turned to me, changing the subject.
"Yeah? What happened?" She wriggled in her seat uncomfortably.
"He seemed pretty upset. Went all quiet. He didn't even tell Bakugo off for calling Deku a shitty nerd." I looked down.
"Yeah he seemed like he was about to have a breakdown." Katsu threw out casually, taking a bite out of his chicken.
"Are you and Aizawa... close?" Sero leaned forward.
"Close?"
"Well it seemed like you were pissed off with him as soon as he said something. Like, you were pre-annoyed with him. Then there was the thing about your dad. And how upset he seemed. I mean, he's a teacher, I'm sure kids have had bad days and yelled at him before."
"He's really close with my dad." I said vaguely, waving my hand in the air for effect, then putting a big chunk of rice in my mouth so that I couldn't talk.
"Your dad is friends with All Might and Aizawa?" Mido suddenly appeared over my shoulder, making my half of the table jump.
"And Midnight."
"What aout Mic?" He asked enthusiastically. I nodded. "Who is your dad? How do they know each other?"
"They went to school together." I smiled, avoiding the first part of the question.
"They all went to this school. Is your father a pro-hero?" Todoroki leaned over my other shoulder. I didn't want to lie to my friends, so I was simply being vague with the truth. Todoroki changing the conversation from my 'dad' to my 'father' made it a little easier.
"Yeah. But he's really... underground. Not many people know who he is." Mido pulled out his notebook with a triumphant look on his face.
"Try me!"
"I'd rather not." I replied in a final tone, turning back to my bento box. He drooped dejectedly. Mina reached around and patted his shoulder.
"It's okay. We don't know her dad or her mum either."
"Dad or dad." Ochaco corrected. I carried on eating, trying to block out the conversation.
"Oh!"
"Did you idiots not know that? What shitty friends." Katsu sniffed. Everyone looked at me. I groaned and looked up at them again.
"Yeah. I'm adopted. Let's move on now. It's nothing special."
"Hin-"
"I said we're moving on now, Kaminari."
"You don't have to get defensive, Hinami. We just want to know more about you and your life. We're your friends but Bakugo is right. We actually don't know that much about you." Sero jumped in, putting his hand on Kami's arm. I sighed.
"Sorry. I'm used to other kids being mean to me because I have two dads. And because I don't know my real parents. Plus, I don't want anyone treating me differently because of my parents."
"That's understandable. But we'd never do that. We're best friends!" Kami grabbed my hand passionately.
"Speak for yourself."
"Don't ruin the moment, Katsu-kun!"
The bell rang and we hurriedly picked up our things and headed back to class.
"Welcome back, class. Did you all have a nice lunch?" I looked over my father's tight lipped smile with horror. He had bad news for us.
