Chapter 10

I was happy to be back in my own bed, and to finally have Ramen purring gently next to my feet again. But I couldn't sleep. The low voices of my parents drifted in from their bedroom. I didn't have to try and make out what they were saying to know that they were discussing me. With a sigh, I turned over and checked my phone. I had many messages from my friends, none of which I had replied to yet.

'Need for Speed': one long message asking how I was and saying that I did not have to reply until I felt better.

'Bubbles': two messages saying that she hoped I was okay.

'Pink Queen': two messages expressing concern for me.

'This Dude Rocks': a message hoping that I felt better soon.

'Walking Charger': four messages asking if I was okay.

'Broccoli Boi': five messages asking how I was, saying that he hopes I sleep well etc.

'Flex Tape': three messages saying that he hoped I felt better, managed to get rest over the weekend, and he would talk to me later.

I also had ten messages asking how I was, what happened, was I okay, why wasn't I responding, apologising because I probably still felt shaken, asking me to reply when I felt okay, asking if he could help in any way, so on, so on. You could guess who from.

I typed a generic 'Thanks for the concern! I had a bad dream and was pretty shaken, but I'm perfectly fine now! Getting lots of cuddles from Ramen :)' and sent to everyone but Katsuki.

Mr Boombastic: Just let me know when you're okay

Please

I'm worried about you... but tell anyone and I'll fucking kill you

Aww Katsu-kun, that's so sweet

Mr Boombastic: Shut the fuck up!

I'm fine now

Mr Boombastic: What happened?

It's a long story

Mr Boombastic: Then call me

I'll listen

It's late

I don't wanna get you in trouble or anything

Mr Boombastic: Just shut up and answer your phone

As the message came through, my phone started to make explosion noises as a call came through from Katsu. I picked it up and he immediately started to yell at me.

"What the fuck? What happened?"

"Hello to you too, Katsu-kun."

"Shut up."

"Do you want me to shut up, or tell you what happened?" I smirked cheekily.

"Guess." He replied flatly.

"I had a nightmare and ended up having a panic attack."

"A panic attack? Did it last long? Are you okay now? What was your nightmare about?"

"One question at a time, Mother." I raised my brow. He really was worried about me.

"Answer me, shit head."

"I'm okay now. It didn't last very long."

"And your nightmare?" After I hesitated to reply, he added. "I wanna help."

"I was in a blank room. There was a guy. He said that he was a friend, even though 'they' would say otherwise. And he said something about choosing a side, and my parents, and a fire..." We both went silent as I struggled to keep my breathing steady. After a moment, he said.

"It was just a bad dream. Plus, All Might is your uncle. Nothing will happen to your parents."

"He wasn't talking about my current parents."

"Huh?"

"You can't- Well, uh... I'm adopted."

"That's... Cool?"

"Yeah... Cue masses of childhood bullying..." I laughed awkwardly.

"This is a weird question but... Do you have a mum?"

"I have two dads, but just... Don't mention it to the others, okay? It's not that I think they'll be weird about it or anything, and I'm not like, ashamed. I just... It's just easier, okay?" I stumbled over my words, trying not to sound nervous.

"Okay, I won't. I think I kind of get it. You never mention a mum, despite how much you talk about your dad. Also, you sometimes say Dad, but other times you say Father." A blush formed on my cheeks. Did he really pay that much attention to me when I spoke, to have realised the changes in my vocabulary.

"Yeah, I tend to do that so that other people know who I'm referring to. I usually call them both Dad to their faces unless I'm pissed off with them." We shared a giggle.

"Well I call my mum plenty worse." As we were laughing, my door opened, and my dad poked his head around it. His long blonde hair was down, and he had his reading glasses on.

"Sweetie? What are you still doing up?"

"Oh, Dad. Sorry, I'm talking to my friend on the phone. I can't sleep."

"Just try and keep it down, okay? Me and your dad are going to sleep now."

"Night. Love you. Tell Dad I said it."

"Love you too. See you in the morning." He gave me a big smile before quietly closing my door and going back to his own room.

"Sorry. I'm back." I lifted my phone back up to my ear.

"Your dad kinda sounds like a quiet version of Present Mic."

"I know." If only he knew.

"Well I should probably go now. You need to get some rest."

"You do too. Thanks for being worried about me and that."

"Don't mention it. Literally. I'll blast your head off."

"Of course." I giggled. "Talk to you later, Katsu-kun."

"Yeah. Night, Hinami. Call me if you need me." Before I could reply, he disconnected the call. Despite being hung up on, I couldn't help but smile.

As I threw the duvet over me and closed my eyes, I wondered what I did to deserve such caring friends.

"Good morning, Hinami." My father said, as soon as I walked into the kitchen. He was huddled up in a blanket, sitting at the kitchen table, his laptop in front of him. Ramen chirruped happily from his lap when he noticed my presence. I felt a little betrayed that he had left me in the night to sit with my father.

"Morning. Did you sleep well? Or, at all?"

"Yes." He replied absently. It didn't look like it. His hair was sticking up every which way and his dark circles seemed even worse than usual. I sat down opposite him.

"What's going on?"

"I could ask you the same question." He replied, finally looking up at me.

"I already told you. I had a nightmare." I raised my brow at him. "Why have you been working all night?"

"I don't think I should tell you."

"Rude." Standing up to get some breakfast, I decided to try to read his laptop over his shoulder. I saw 'League of Villains report' on one tab, and 'Hero report - June 15th 2009' on another, before he slammed the lid shut.

"Don't try to read over my shoulder. That's rude. Make me a coffee to pay for it." I groaned and rolled my eyes dramatically as I flicked the kettle on.

"You cool cats are up already?" Dad chuckled as he entered the kitchen, his sleek blonde hair mussed from sleep.

"Yeah. Well, I don't think you can really count that as an early start." I gestured to my father, who had opened his laptop and started furiously typing away again. Dad shook his head and sighed.

"My love, have you really been working all night? Nemuri said that she would finish up that report for you today."

"There wasn't much to finish, so I just did it myself. And I was mainly looking at something else, anyway." Dad walked over and started to read what Father had been doing.

"Why the sudden interest in this?" Father typed something out, which Dad read and nodded at. They clearly didn't want me knowing something. Running my tongue along my teeth, I poured the boiling water into three cups, stirred the liquid, then handed my father his coffee, and my dad a tea, before sipping at my own coffee.

"Am I allowed to be a part of this conversation? Or should Ramen and I just go back to my room?" Upon hearing his name, the tabby looked up at me and meowed.

"Don't say it like that."

"Don't take Ramen." Father and Dad said at the same time. Dad whacked Father on the back. "What? It's classified information." Father leant down and hissed in his ear. It sounded like he said 'about her' but I had probably just misheard.

"Is it about the League of Villains? I want to know. I won't tell anyone!" I pleaded. They didn't know that I had told Katsuki, did they? They shared a look.

"There's been some evidence that they're behind some crimes. The board is a little worried because of the threats. So I have to write a report about it."

"That's not it." After a pause, Dad sighed.

"A few students have been named in their threats. The threats haven't been against them. Just things like 'grading name's paper' and such."

"Was... Was I named? My friends?" I tried when they shook their heads.

"Don't get yourself worried, okay? It was some third years. Everyone knows their names anyway because of the sports festival, so there shouldn't be any reason to panic." I nodded, even though I wasn't fully convinced.

"And... Two-thousand and nine?"

"You shouldn't have read that over my shoulder!"

"You shouldn't keep things from me!"

"You are a child! My child!" Father stood up, raising his voice. I knew he wasn't angry, just exasperated. Something about his wording struck me as strange. "Hizashi and I keep things from you to protect you!"

"Both of you! Calm down." Dad tried. "I know you feel frustrated, and that we're hiding things from you. But, sweetie, we-"

Three loud knocks interrupted our conversation. We all looked at each other in shock, before Father slammed down his laptop, and Dad ran to open the door. Whoever it was, the knocks sounded urgent.

"Shouta, get the medical kit!"

From then on, there was a lot of movement and rush. Uncle had come stumbling in, supported by Dad. He was covered in many cuts and bruises.

"Toshi! What happened?"

"Don't you worry about your old Uncle, little one! Just a villain with a particularly nasty quirk. Nothing I couldn't take-" He was cut off by his own coughs as his whole body deflated. I grabbed a tea towel and mopped up his face, the grey material soaking up the red in an almost hypnotising way. Dad opened up the medical kit that Father had brought in and started to gently clean a gash on his arm. He hissed in pain.

"Can I do anything?"

"Just hold my hand for me? Your dad isn't holding back with that peroxide." He chuckled, but his smile didn't reach his eyes. I nodded seriously and took his large, boney hand in mine, squeezing it comfortingly. Dad made quick work of cleaning Toshi up, almost like he had done it many more times than I had seen before. Uncle would occasionally give a 'tss' and tighten his grip on my hand. Father made some more tea for us all once it was done, and started asking questions about the fight.

Turns out, a guy had robbed a store and attacked police officers when they tried to arrest him. Toshi had been in the area, so stepped in to help. The guy's quirk allowed him to make his hands into large knives - explaining the wounds - and was a skilled fighter. When he was finally apprehended and arrested, he claimed to be working with the League of Villains, and that 'All Might will pay for his actions against the master of the League'.

"Sounds like a whack-job to me. He probably just read about those idiots in a paper somewhere." Father sighed.

"Probably... Hopefully..." Dad trailed off. I patted Toshi's shoulder gently.

"Are you worried about it?"

"Of course not! I'm the number one hero! I can deal with a group of punks." What if they weren't just a group of punks though? A sudden thought popped into my head.

"What do you know about the League of Villains so far? Who are the members and such?"

"I don't think that's relevant information." Father started.

"Please. Do you know any of the members?" Dad looked around before replying.

"We have heard rumours about certain people-"

"A boy. He's about ye high. Skinny. Pale. Greyish hair that's kinda shaggy, in need of a cut, y'know. A few years older than me."

"Sounds like Tomura Shigaraki." Toshi mused.

"How do you know this?" Father ran over to me and cupped my face. "Have you met him? Did he hurt you?"

"No. No!" I swatted him away. "I just heard a rumour from one of the upperclassmen, that's all." I lied. Seeing the panic in my family's eyes at just the thought of me knowing this Shigaraki guy gave me a bad feeling in my gut.

This was something to keep to myself - figure out myself. And that's exactly what I planned to do.
