Chapter 20

Hello everyone, thank you for your continuous support. Let's keep up the work. Keep voting and commenting.
Nate.
The third week now.
She hasn't woken up yet.
The experience I went through last week was overwhelming and I have sessions with a therapist my mom recommended. The therapy sessions have really been helpful and I don't look so shaken like before. Ryn's security was increased tenfold and Felicity with her new partner Steven Booth have been relentless in finding the person responsible for the unfolding predicament.
Mr Ryn's memorial would be on Friday of this week before the family proceeds to cremate his body.
Ryn wouldn't even get to see her father for the last time.
Her family has been supportive and Mom insisted on having me sleep at home and visit Ryn during the day. After the incident, I never wanted to step foot in the hospital again. For the past one week I had been finding Ryn's progress through Kate who has always been there for her too.
At the beginning of the week, I realized that I wanted to be around when Ryn woke up so I pushed by my feelings and made sure to see her at least a few hours a day.
Right now, Kate and I were at the hospital room looking after her as her mom and sister went home to freshen up before coming back to see her. Donna seemed to be most affected by the turn of events and she would constantly cry when she thought no one was watching. Ray, Neilani and Glenn have also visited as they insisted on being there for me and giving me moral support.
"Do you think she will wake up anytime soon?" Kate asked me her face looking forlorn.
"I hope so Kate, I hope so." It was the only thing I could do. The only thing anyone could do.
We kept on talking about anything and everything just to pass the time until we heard a groan. Kate and I looked at each other surprised.
"Was that you?" I asked Kate but she shook her head.
We both turned around to look at Ryn and found her fingers wiggling.
"She is waking up Nate. Oh God this a fucking miracle." Kate jumped in joy.
"Go call the doctor, hurry." I instructed her.
As Kate went to look for the doctor, I watched Ryn intently. I wanted to be the first person she saw when she woke up.
A few minutes later, her eyes went wide open then shut back instantly. They fluttered again before they slowly opened and I was greeted by beautiful grey orbs that I had missed so much.
What if she had forgotten me?
I couldn't keep the questions at bay but I struggled hard to keep it together. Her eyes roamed the entire room before they landed on me and she smiled.
I blushed. I don't know how it just happened.
She just woke up from a coma and made me blush? It was unbelievable.
"Dad? Where is he?" Her voice came out in a croaked horse. Like a frog's.
I handed her a glass of water which she took excitedly and downed it all.
"Thanks. My throat was really dry." She said softly before trying to sit. She went right back down.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you. You just woke up from a coma, you don't have that strength." I advised her smiling and she smiled back.
"I feel like I have been run by a truck and a pile of rocks was placed all over my body. What the fuck happened to me?." She questioned rubbing her body.
The doctor came in with Kate and she jumped on Ryn happily.
"Girl, you scared the shit out of us." Kate said playing with Ryn's hair.
"How are you feeling miss Ryn?" The doctor asked as he proceed to do some necessary tests. He checked her heartbeat, her eyes and the bruises on her ribs.
" Uh, like I died then came back to life?" She was trying to make light of the situation but I remembered the moment her heart stopped beating for seven minutes.
"That's expected. Do you remember anything at all?" She looked at me abruptly and giggled.
"I remember kissing him under the lights of the sky in top of a hill." She smiled sweetly and covered her face shyly. I blushed in response.
Why was she shy?
This Ryn was definitely a hilarious one. Kate simply looked at us and laughed.
The drugs are definitely doing that to her. What else could explain her behavior.
"Do you remember anything else about yourself miss Ryn." The doctor pressed. " It is necessary to let us know what you remember so we can track your progress."
" Uh okay sure. I am a senior at highschool, my best friend is Kate and I have a to be boyfriend called Nate. I live with my dad at... Uh ,I can't remember where." She furrowed her brows and drew them in concentration.
"That's strange, I can't remember where I live." She burst out laughing.
It was hilarious watching her do all sort of funny things. Who thought that losing memories is that funny.
The door went open and in came my mom, Caleb , Donna and Ryn's mom. I had sent them a message immediately Ryn woke up.
"Maddie? You've grown really big. " she said smiling to Donna.
When the doctor saw the confusion in Donna's eyes, he asked her what was wrong.
"Ryn, you haven't called me that in like five years now." She seemed more confused now.
"What are you talking about, I miss talking to you about silly teen stuff, we should do that more often Maddie. Sister love...like always." She beamed. Her face radiated happiness and she looked like a ray of sunshine.
By the look of things, Ryn had forgotten the argument with her sister and she only remembered the good times she spent with her.
I guess that was for the better.
Her eyes landed on my mom.
"Maria? What are you doing here?" She looked genuinely surprised.
"Oh dear, you're like a daughter to me. I came as soon as I heard you woke up. Thanks heavens, we were all worried." My mom soothed.
"I miss your vanilla cookies Maria. Did you bring me some?" My mom smiled.
"I'll bring them the next time I come to see you baby girl." Ryn looked disappointed and she gazed at her mom and she looked lost.
"Um Maddie? Who's the woman behind you? And the boy beside you. I don't think I have met them before, are they friends of yours?"
Ryn had lost memories of her mom and Caleb. I remembered the word of the surgeon who had operated on her the day if her accident. He had said that she was likely to forget anything that caused her pain and drain both emotionally and psychologically.
I guess that's what he was meaning.
A few a hours later Ryn had fallen back asleep. The doctor said she needed the rest to get back on her feet very soon. He also said that her memories were in bits and pieces but good news was that it was temporary and she would remember everything in a few months time.
I didn't know if that was good or bad news.
I had no idea how she would react if she found out about her dad. This is bound to break her already shuttered life.
I was laying on my bed at home. Her sister had taken over and she was looking after her. I was glad that she was finally up and it was only a matter of time before she was on her feet again.
I had missed her so much. I didn't think it was possible to miss someone that much.
I wanted the person responsible for everything to be caught so we could all go back to living our normal lives again. I called Felicity to find out the progress in the case.
"How is everything coming up Felicity? Ryn woke up today but she doesn't remember a lot of stuff. I want this to be over soon." I whined.
"We're coming to the end of the case. We have behind bars a man who is alleged to be involved in the planning of the entire process. That is the much I can tell you, since I am not allowed to disclose any contents of an ongoing investigation. A hearing is set to happen soon, we'll see you guys in court so we can end this once and for all. I will send you the date and a few other details to be considered. Bye." She hang up.
I was relieved that the case was coming to a close. I could smell the sweet fragrance of justice. I just hoped the aftermath of the events were bearable for all of us.
Will life be the same again after this really?
Edited. Enjoy!
