Chapter 13

Part 1

Nate

Everyone hates something. For me, what repulses me most is gossip. I find there are better ways to waste time than talk about someone else. Why in the world would I want to talk about someone else. Besides, there are better ways to find information.

1.Ask google
2.Do some research in books
3.Stay out of people's business

Simple rules for safest guiding.

"You know Neilani, I should have told you a little sooner but I don't really like gossip.. Or gossipers."

We were on the parking lot heading to class when Neil started gossiping. She blushed at my words probably embarrassed but pressed anyway.

"Oh this one you're gonna like. Ryn and Jack kissed at Gina's party last Friday. According to him, he says they might be a couple now." She finished out of breath.

It couldn't be. She would never do anything like that. Well the together part. For the short time that I got to know her, I saw so much that no one else See's in her and I knew deep inside that she wasn't a person to make irrational decisions.

"Where did you hear that?" I asked suddenly interested. I hated that I was interested to know, but I was sure that had it been someone else I wouldn't have given it any time of day.

"He posted it on his Instagram handle on Saturday."

"You follow Jack?" Out of all the questions I could ask I had to just ask that one.

"Well we're in the swim team together, its only natural that I  do, not that its a must or anything. Besides he's a douche bag. A cocky one at that, I like his brother better. I used to have a crush on him." She blushed when she realised what she had just said.

"Used to?" I also thought Jerry was a sweet guy. Again the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

"Yeah used to. I have my sights on someone else now." Her face was a bit flushed. Like she revealed something she wasn't supposed to, but then covered it up just as fast as it happened.

I wondered who the guy was.

"I think Jack just said that to get a reaction out of people. Clearly everyone is talking about it now."

I might not have known Jack better but I knew Ryn. Once upon a time. Unless she wanted to make me jealous which was very unlikely.

"You say that like you're so sure." Ray finally decided to catch up on the conversation. Man he was so slow.

"It takes one to know one." Ray and Neil looked at each with confused faces and the turned to me more confused. Classes were almost commencing and I didn't want to be left behind.

"Come on guys let's go to class. We're not gossipers. Ever." I started off and they followed suit behind me. We walked our way to class and I was glad Archie never bothered to bully me again. I wondered what made him change his mind. We parted ways with Neil who promised to join us for lunch and Ray and I made our way to Calculus.

"I thought you were going to explain further." Ray questioned once we were settled in class. I was glad the teacher hadn't made it to class yet because I hated talking when  a teacher was teaching. It made me feel rude.

I wasn't rude.

"Explain what exactly? I said we don't gossip."

"Its not gossip if its something you said. I just want to know what you meant that's all. But with that defensive mood of yours, I'd say were getting nowhere." I could tell he was upset. I hated having to explain myself with everything I did or said. We all have our moments when we just want to keep to ourselves.

"Man don't be upset. I only said that because for the shortest time that I knew Ryn, I felt like she was a kind soul, caring and when she loved, it was love indeed. All this, that she's doing, its because she was hurt before. She's just afraid that if she let's someone in again, they might just end up doing the same. That's why she fools around because she can't have it in herself to trust someone enough for them to see her for who she really is. She showed me that."

I knew from the moment that she entered those gates that she was a special one. I couldn't bring myself to hate her even after what she did to me. What I saw was someone hurting, someone lonely, someone afraid. I never wanted to feel like that. There was so much I felt I could do for her to help, but she already made it clear that she wanted nothing to do with me. I wasn't going to force issues. Something that I was so sure of, is that she would come back to me, in her own. That I knew for sure.

Don't ask me how. I just did.

"It all makes sense now. " Ray said."You still like her don't you?"

"I will wait. I'll give her all the time that she needs to heal. She will come back to me."

"But in the meantime, I will try as much as possible to be happier, even if it is without her."

With all the drama going on in my life, I didn't want to lose myself in the process. Its the only thing that I had to look out for and look up to.

Myself.

"Its Monday today Nate." Ray thought it better to change the topic. Good choice.

"And?" I asked.

"And? What do you mean and? Waterfall is performing today are you going? Because I know Neil won't miss it for the world."
Ray informed with a grin on his face. All members of our group loved music. Neil brought Glenn, her best friend to our table the other day. She's a grade below us as well.

"I won't miss it Ray. We won't miss it."

As always, when lunch time struck we made our way to the music chamber for an hour of soothing music. Usually they have a chart of songs they would perform stuck at the wall in the room. We made our way there to see the songs the girls would sing today.

1. Dean Lewis Be alright.
2. Sean Mendez In my blood.

The list was still going on but only those two songs stuck in my head.

"I love the one by Dean Lewis." Glenn said as we made our way to the back to sit. Ray was sitting besides Neil and I was sitting besides Glenn.

"Everyone loves Be alright Glenn." Neil countered with a smile.

"According to statistics, an average of..."
Glenn didn't get to finish before Ray cut her off.

"Woman, we came here to listen not to calculate statistics."

"Well, scientifically speaking I am not a woman yet." Glenn said somewhat annoyed. She was a smart girl but sometimes her witty mind made her sound like an idiot in social circles. She couldn't differentiate the truths of science and that of reality.

"Alright guys shut up. That's enough for today." I said. That seemed to have calmed the storm for a bit. Ray and Glenn didn't get along that much. They only knew how to drive each other nuts. The only thing that brought them closer was their love for music. One time Glenn was singing a song and Ray joined her in tenor and their voices together seemed like they were made for each other. It was such a beautiful harmony and we all loved it. When they sing, they would do all kinds of things together, like hold their hands when they were about to sing a higher note, or smile at each other when the song was getting to a climax, but that's only when they were singing. The other times its just them almost killing each other.

We enjoyed our time at the Music chamber until it was time to grab lunch before heading back to class.

I had chemistry with Ryn.

"I'm looking forward to that." I thought sarcastically.

I would truly have if we were on good terms. But we're not.
