Will took me home after I finally calmed down. He didn't seem sure whether he should come in with me or not. I told him he might as well.

"Ah, good. You're here." Ms. Morning (was that her name?) smiled at me. "I have some great news for you."

I raised an eyebrow. "And that would be...?"

"You're being adopted! Your father is right back here."

"I haven't been adopted yet, have I?"

"Right after he brings me the last of the forms. Oh, here he is now."

"So I finished filling this out but do I have to-" he saw me and stumbled back. I didn't realize why until I looked up at his face and recognized him. He looked a lot like me. I tensed.

"Nico. Um, hi."

"'Hi'?! That's all you have to say?!"

"I-I'm sorry."

"Well I would hope so!"

Ms. Morning's fake smile wavered a bit. "Nico, what are you doing?"

"Are you kidding?! He left me!"

"And I'm sure he's very sorry."

"Yeah! If he wasn't, I'd be concerned! He left us!"

"Nico..." he said. I glared at him.

"Why would you come back after this long?! I've been being starved and beaten here all because I was left with a dead mom and a dad that didn't care."

"Nico, I did care..."

"If you cared then you wouldn't have left."

"I just... I needed a break."

"A normal person's break isn't any more than a day. Do you realize how many years you left me?!"

I felt Will put his arm around me. "Shhh, Neeks. It'll be okay. I'm sure you don't have to go with him if you don't want."

Ms. Morning cleared her throat. "Actually, all the paperwork is done now. He's your new father."

"But we never even-!" I started to protest.

"Shush. Go up to your room and pack."

I looked to Will for help but he just took my hand and we went upstairs.

As soon as we were in my room I started to cry. Will whispered things in my ear that sort of helped but mostly I just cried and he had his arm wrapped around me.

"I don't even know if I'll live around here!"

"I'm sure you can get your dad to move here. If he doesn't already."

I sniffed. "Yeah. Maybe. But what if we don't have enough money to move?"

"Then you can call me to talk to me okay? And I'll try to visit you."

"Thanks Will."

"You're welcome Neeks." I looked up at him to find that he had tears in his eyes too, some of which were leaking down his cheeks.

"I-If I have to m-move... I'll miss you Will."

"I'll miss you too, Nico."
