Chapter 1: Abandon road
The soft gust of wind blew in the air and the old smell of gasoline-like cars used to be there. Ashley's head was pounding as if she got knocked out. Ashley woke up opening her eyes to find she was on a road. Ashley sat up straight and looked around, there were no cars, not even a beep. Ashley tried standing her leg feeling numb like her nerves were shot. Ashley dusted herself off from the rubble and leaves.
Ashley looked around for shelter and saw a flickering light about 2 blocks away. Ashley started waking to the light hoping someone could help her. "How did I get here?" Ashley thought, rubbing her head. Ashley got to the light and to find a 7-foot gate between her and whatever was on the other side. Ashley tried opening the gate but had no luck. Ashley walked back and looked around for a way in. Ashley saw words above her. Ashley looked up and there was a sign "The Orphanage".
Ashley's heat dropped in her stomach. She looked at the stone walls and found vines going up the wall. Ashley took the vines and wrapped them around her hand to climb over the wall. Ashley jumped down and saw she was on the other side of the gate. Ashley turned around and noticed a path leading somewhere.
Ashley walked along the stone brick path. Ashley has a weird feeling she was being watched. Ashley heard a branch snap but as she turned around no one was there. Ashley kept walking until she saw a red line on the path going in between the trees. Ashley looked down and saw a bloody line splitting the path.
"Is that blood!" Ashley yelled in fear
"It smells so bad like it's been there for years," Ashley said, covering her nose.
Ashley stepped over the bloody line on the stone brick path. Ashley continued walking on the path and saw the path split into two ways. "Should I go left? Or should I go right?" Ashley asked herself looking at both paths. In the middle, there was a giant redwood tree with dark green leaves. Ashley went on the right path and kept walking until she saw a building that looked like the Orphanage. Ashley walked up the old wooden steps. The steps would creak and sound like they were about to snap. Ashley got to the porch and from the corner of her eye she saw a figure from the window.
"What was that?!" Ashley said as the wind got colder.
The door opened on its own. Ashley went inside the building and looked by the window but no one was there. There were stairs in the middle of the room leading to the second floor. There was a door on Ashley's right and a corridor on her left. Ashley went to the small corridor it opened up to a living room with two couches and a fireplace. There was a window with a table and all over the desk were empty books and paper all over the table.
Ashley looked around the room and then the fireplace went out as a giggle came out from nowhere. Ashley's heartbeat went faster than she could run.
"How did the fire go out!" Ashley whispered
"I should keep looking around. Quietly," Ashley said breathing
Ashley looked to her right and there was an open wall and there was a hallway but across the hall, there was the dining room. Ashley walked to the dining room and there were plates and cups set out on the table. There were about 14 chairs and there was a cabinet with bread that looked new. There were extra cups and plates and old dusty water. Two gray doors caught her eye. Ashley put the bread she found in her backpack.
Ashley's head began to pound like crazy. She tried to remember what happened before she came here. Did she jump out of a car? House fire? Ran away from home? Karma? No matter how hard she thought she knew she was here for a reason. Something pulled her to the orphanage and locked her inside.
Before Ashley walked to the doors she looked at the painting around the first floor. The paintings were creepy like something a caveman painted. There was one painting that stood out from the rest... A painting with nothing but a red circle.
"Why is this a red circle?" Ashley asked herself.
"All of these paintings are creepy but this makes no sense," Ashley continued.
Ashley went back into the dining room and took a deep breath before she walked to two doors.
