Too Good
When Finn Mikaelson met Caroline Forbes for the first time, he knew she was too good for Klaus.
Finn was aware that his brother Klaus was an admirer of Caroline, who was one of Elena Gilbert's closest friends. He had no idea why Klaus would choose to go after one of Elena's friends; he personally thought it was stupid to try to ask out of the best friends of the woman you had tried to murder for your own personal gain. But Klaus was Klaus, and he seemed to know what he wanted, and Finn normally stayed out of his way.
Finn had the chance to properly meet Caroline herself when she came to the Mikaelson Mansion one day when Klaus wasn't around. He was drawn to front door by someone repeatedly and forcefully pushing on the doorbell. He was pretty sure that meant someone was either desperate to see one of them or was very angry at them, the latter being the more likely scenario. It was because of this that Finn was a little cautious when he opened the door.
A beautiful young woman with long blonde hair and bright blue eyes was standing outside. She looked angry, which was what Finn was expecting.
"Hello," he said, looking around to make sure there was no one else with her. "Can I help you?"
"Where is Klaus?" she demanded.
"He's not here," Finn answered. "Can I ask who's looking for him?"
"Me, Caroline."
This was the girl Klaus was so smitten with. She seemed so angry at him that Finn wouldn't have thought that there was something between them, unless it was one-sided.
"Oh. Oh, I see. Can I ask what he's done this time?" he asked.
"Does it even matter?" She threw her hands in the air. "Everything he does causes a problem. His existence causes a problem! What?"
Something about her reaction to his question seemed funny to Finn, and it made him smile.
"I wasn't aware my brother can have such a reaction on women," he said. "Trust me, I know all about what he's like, miss. I don't think we've been properly introduced. I'm Finn Mikaelson, Niklaus' older brother."
"Oh. Right." Her anger deflated a little. "I'm sorry. I must seem completely crazy."
"Not at all. You must be Caroline Forbes, my brother's new ladylove."
She gave him a horrified look. "Did he say that?"
"No. That was only the impression I got from him."
"Well, it's not true," she snapped. She sighed. "You know what, I don't even know why I'm here."
"My brother can have that exasperating effect on people," Finn explained. "I know what that's like. I'm sorry you've been caused such anxiety, Miss Forbes."
"Oh." She looked surprised by the fact that he seemed so civil. "Well, that's okay, I guess. I mean, you haven't done anything-I just met you. You know, you don't seem so bad."
For Finn, it was nice to hear that he didn't seem so bad compared to the rest of his family. Miss Forbes herself didn't seem so bad herself, but he wasn't sure if it would be appropriate to tell her so.
"You know what, I think I'm gonna go," she said with a sigh. "Klaus is gonna drive us all crazy."
"I'm afraid it seems like that," Finn replied. "But you should go before he returns. Perhaps we'll see each other some other time, away from my brother."
"Yeah." She nodded. "Okay, I'm actually gonna go now. See you around, I guess."
She turned around and went back down the walkway. Finn closed the door once she was at the end of the drive. What an interesting young woman. She could be a little awkward when she wasn't angry, and she was obviously a little embarrassed about the way she showed up, but she was certainly likeable.
She was absolutely too good for Klaus, unless Klaus suddenly chose to stop terrorizing people. Caroline herself had said that Finn wasn't bad compared to Klaus, and her words suddenly gave Finn some motivation to be a better person. If it meant she might like him more than she currently liked Klaus, it was definitely worth a try.
