The Most Annoying Caller

The Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted was usually a peaceful place. True, sometimes there was a crisis or two involving magic gone wrong, but other than that, there was nothing to worry about.

Then young Hope Mikaelson began to attend the school. There wasn't anything wrong with Hope herself; in fact, she proved to be an excellent student. It was her father the staff began to have an issue with.

Alaric Saltzman rushed to answer the office phone that had been ringing nonstop.

 "Salvatore Boarding School for-"

 "Give the phone to Caroline."

 "Klaus?" Alaric sighed. "Again? Seriously?"

"Yes, seriously. Now, hand the phone over. I'd prefer to speak to the headmistress, not the assistant."

Alaric sighed again, and was about to call Caroline when she appeared and took the phone herself.

"It's okay, Alaric," she said. "I'll handle him." She put the phone to her ear. "Klaus, this is the fourth time you've called in the last week. Is it actually important this time?"

"Of course it's important," he answered. "It concerns my daughter."

"All right, then. What is it?"

"I heard you had a bad storm up in Mystic Falls yesterday. I simply want to know how my daughter is."

Caroline sighed in exasperation. "Are you serious? It was an average thunderstorm. The kids all stayed in, and no one got hurt."

 "You're sure?"

"Klaus, I'm the headmistress. It's my job to make sure all the kids are okay."

"All right, I get it. I'm just a concerned parent."

"Yes, Klaus, I know," said Caroline. "I think it's kind of sweet that you're so worried about your daughter. But I think you would be what's considered an extremely overprotective parent."

 "Me? Extremely overprotective? That's ridiculous."

"Sure, because calling multiple times a week isn't being extremely overprotective."

"Oh, all right, I get your point," Klaus snapped. "I will limit myself to once a week, sometimes twice. I don't want Hope thinking that I think she's in danger."

"Okay. That sounds good. I'm going to hang up now. Bye, Klaus."

After she'd hung up, Alaric asked, "He won't be calling up again too soon, will he?"

"Well, he's decided to limit the amount of annoying," Caroline said. "I get that he's a concerned parent, and that's nice, because it proves that he's capable of having feelings. But let's hope he doesn't come around again too soon."
