Kol Mikaelson #8 (Human!AU)
Kol Mikaelson ran away from home at the age of sixteen thinking he might just be able to get away with it all. He didn't want anything to do with his family anymore, and ran away to be free and to have his own life. However, things change when he meets you.
You are about the same age as Kol, and you ran away from home months ago. You couldn't stay with your parents anymore, not with the way they were. You've been staying with a cousin of yours who understands why you did what you did and you've been staying with her since then. She doesn't hover, though, and you feel have much more freedom now than you did before. However, the problem with that is that you've been lonely. You haven't spent time with any old friends from school out of the fear of your parents finding out where you went, and you don't have any other friends.
You're grateful when you happen to meet Kol in the park one day. The two of you begin chatting, and you realize you have mostly the same situation. However, to you Kol's reasons for running away from home are not as legitimate as yours. Yes, he comes from a big, crazy family, and that sounds as if it could get insufferable, but you personally don't understand why he felt running away was the best thing to do. But you like him. You like him, and the two of you become friends.
You cousin works many odd hours, and you make sure to only bring Kol with you to her apartment whenever she's out. You know how lucky you are that she's letting you stay with her, and you doubt she would want you bringing fellow runaways home with you. Other times, the two of you just go walking around the city together. You know your way around, and though Kol is from a different part of the city, he's gotten to know the area pretty well in just a short time.
Within a short time, you begin falling for him, and soon you're making future plans for the two of you in your head. As soon as you're eighteen, it'll be easy to get a job. You can make money for yourself and Kol, and the two of you can get your own place. It would be perfect.
But then you start seeing a difference in Kol. You get the feeling that he's beginning to regret his decision to run away from home.
"It would have been nice to introduce you to my family," he says in one occasion. "I think you would have actually fit in well with the Mikaelsons."
So, one day, you point out to him that he still has the option to go back home.
"Yes, you did run away, and they've probably all been worried about you," you say. "I'm sure by now they don't think you're coming back. But maybe if you give a good apology, they'll forgive you. You never know."
Kol nods. "Maybe. If I decide to, will you go with me?"
"Of course I will. You just have to show me the way."
A week later, Kol tells you he's ready to go home and face his family. Thankfully, between the two of you, you have enough money for a bus ride so you don't have to walk. On the bus, you hold Kol's hand and you say, "It'll be all right. You have me. I'm not going anywhere."
When you arrive at your stop, you follow Kol down a few more blocks, and the two of you stop across the street from his family's house.
"Well, go ahead," you say to him. "I'll wait here."
You watch Kol as he bravely walks across the street and knocks on the front door. If he can do this, maybe there's hope for you, you suddenly think. Was it possible to work things out with your own parents? You haven't seen them in months. You don't know what they've been doing or what they've been thinking. Do they miss you?
You watch as middle-aged woman answers the door. You assume she's Kol's mother, and she looks shocked, and then overjoyed to see her son on her doorstep. She embraces him, and she looks like she might be crying. She probably is.
Kol turns back to you with a big smile, and waves for you to come join them. You wave back, and then run across the street to meet Kol's family.
