Brother and Sister
Aurora de Martel would never accept that her brother Tristan locking her away somewhere was for her own good. She knew that Tristan knew she wasn't going to accept it, too, yet he continued with what he was doing as if there were nothing wrong, as if he weren't taking away her freedom.
"Do you mean to just lock me away from the entire world?" she asked of him. "You really believe the world would be safer without me in it?"
"You know that wasn't what I meant," Tristian replied firmly. "In fact, you know I meant it the other way around. You would be safer, wouldn't you? If I kept you safe-"
"Safe?" Aurora laughed. "That's what you call what you're doing. You're not keeping me safe, Tristan. You're keeping me a prisoner."
To be a little fair, Tristan de Martel genuinely loved his little sister. But he worried about her too much, and he often wondered if perhaps he loved her a little too much. He had always been the big brother who protected her and who kept her away from any harm, or at least tried to. Her blossoming romance with Klaus Mikaelson had happened right under his nose, hadn't it?
But that was centuries ago, and Klaus Mikaelson was long gone. And if Tristan ever had his way with it, then one day Klaus would simply be gone. He knew what Elijah Mikaelson had done by compelling Aurora to stay behind when the Mikaelsons fled from that part of France, and while he would always despise Elijah, he was grateful Aurora never went with Klaus, that she was still with him.
And then there were men like Lucien Castle out and about. Tristan could never hate Lucien more than the Mikaelsons, but they still had a loathing for each other, and they purposefully saw each other as little as was possible. Tristan knew now that while Klaus was the man Aurora had had her affair, Lucien was also in love with her, and he probably still was.
Meanwhile, Aurora knew her brother had had just about enough of her and men. She knew he was hoping that he placed her in some secluded home for a little while, maybe a century or two, perhaps then she would have forgotten Klaus, and perhaps Lucien would find another woman and stop pining for her.
But to be honest, it wasn't just that. Tristan was also a little but worried about his sister's sanity. She was never the same girl she was before bring turned into a vampire. He knew she would never be the same again, but there was still something about her that worried him. He knew she was a little insane, and didn't know what to do with her.
"We should be there soon," he remarked as they traveled. "You'll like the mountains. It's a beautiful place."
"Perhaps. But you're still making me a prison, brother," Aurora replied.
Tristan sighed. "I wish you wouldn't look at things in that way."
After riding in silence for a little while longer, Aurora asked, "You'll destroy the Mikaelsons someday, won't you?"
"That is my plan. I'll find a way someday."
"Good. I want to be there when you do."
He nodded. "If you wish. You know I wouldn't deny you that." Because it wasn't just his revenge, it was hers, too.
Despite their argument, brother and sister did understand each other, and decided not to argue out loud about anything any further.
