A Friendship Begins

Kol Mikaelson and Aurora de Martel met when the Mikaelson family arrived at her home disguised as the children of another nobleman. No one suspected they were lying about their identities, and it seemed they would be able to stay for as long as they pleased. This delighted all five of them.

Two people who did catch their attention early on were Tristan and Aurora, the children of the nobleman who was housing them. On their first day, Kol overheard Lucien Castle telling his brother Klaus that the de Martels were bad news, which intrigued him. Lucien seemed to have a bit of a fascination with Aurora, and Klaus also seemed to grow interested in her. Kol himself didn't have a particular interest in her, but he wondered what intrigued his brother, so he decided to introduce himself.

Kol strode up to the de Martel siblings and bowed. "Good day, sir, madam. I am Lord Kol. My family and I-"

"Yes, I know who you and your siblings are," Tristan cut in impatiently. "I didn't realize there were so many of you coming."

"Oh, Tristan," his sister scolded. She smiled and Kol and curtsied. "Aurora de Martel. Forgive the rudeness of my brother, please. I am happy to welcome you to our home." She looped her arm through his. "Come, let's have a walk about the room. Do excuse me, brother."

"Do not worry about him," she whispered to Kol. "He's in a bad mood today. Tell me, are you and your siblings who you say you are?"

"Why, of course," Kol answered. "No reason to lie, is there?"

"No, I suppose there would not be." She turned her head to glance at something past him. "Who's the man over there, the one with Lucien?"

"Hmm?" He looked in that direction. "Oh, that's only my brother Klaus. I'm sure you will meet him properly soon."

"Yes, I suppose I shall. Tell me, he doesn't have any lovers, does he? No lady back home?"

"No, I would be surprised if there was." Kol was a bit annoyed that she seemed more interested in his brother than him, but he decided he wouldn't let it show. "I am afraid all of us are quite lonely at the moment." He sighed. "I suppose I should not keep you from your brother for too long, should I?"

"No, you should not," she answered, "And it was very thoughtful of you to think of it. But I think you and I will se each other quite often. We could have a nice friendship, couldn't we?"

Kol kissed the top of her hand. "Of course we can."

At the moment, he wasn't worried about Klaus. He liked this girl, and he would make sure she saw that he was the most interesting brother.
