Chapter 4
Selena's POV
"F-f-fae?" I stuttered. I burst out laughing after looking at him for a moment.
"Okay, nice joke, no really, where the heck are we even?"I asked, my mood turning back to serious.
He looked at me unamused before sighing.
"Like I said, you humans call us the fae and you are not on earth, my dear," He said, a smirk returning to his face.
I felt stunned. Wait, what?!!!! I'm pretty sure this is earth. I hurried to the window nearby. I could see a small village far away. It was too modern to be anywhere on earth. Maybe they're shooting a movie and the protagonist just kidnapped me to a set. I put both hands on my head, reality finally hitting me hard.
"Oh my god," I slowly said, my eyes widening. The stranger crossed his arms, looking quite bored.
"No wonder their ears are slightly pointer and eyes are narrowed," I muttered to myself.
I crouched down. This cannot be happening to me.
"Wait, why does Charles have to wear a mask over the upper part of his face but you don't," I asked, standing up and facing him.
Now it was his turn to look shocked. "Charles brought you here?" His tone held disbelief.
"Yeah," I said slowly, " And although he took off his mask for me to see, I mean, there's nothing speic--,"
I stopped talking as soon as I saw the stranger look even more shock and his eyes were so big, I thought they were gonna pop.
"He took off his mask," He pointed at me in incredulity. "For you?"
"Yeah," I replied, getting even more curious by the second.
The stranger ran a hand through his hair, murmuring, "Shit, shit, shit," under his breath.
I raised an eyebrow. What could Charle's looks possibly do to me? Well, speak of the devil.
My eyes slid to Charle's before lowering at my feet. He looked surprisingly calm.
"Gale," He greeted with a stiff smile. My eyes darted between the two.
Gale just nodded at him, "Sir, we have some alarming matters to discuss." He said through gritted teeth. Charles nodded before turning to me.
"Stay in your room and don't try to escape again," He said, eyes flashing with a warning tone.
I rolled my eyes at him and ignoring Gale's amused smile, I quickly walked away from the hallway and back into my room.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How can I escape? I thought to myself as I laid down on my bed, looking up at the ceiling. This place is "glamoured" and who knows if they also glamoured ghosts to run at you even if you manage to succeed a meter away from this mansion.
I shivered just thinking about running ghosts and their creepy smile. I'd rather them to have an angry face than smiling. Ghosts look real creepy when they smile. I shuddered.
I can't help but wonder if why Charles wore a mask. Why was his identity so important here? I snorted as I thought of when Gale told me they were "Faeries." They're just myths and...well...maybe the only explanation why they look the way they do and that this is definitely not on earth.
Maybe it's Greece, I thought, sitting up on my bed. I put two fingers against my chin. Greece is pretty ancient and that would explain why the houses look so modern. Damn, I should've stayed awake in Social Studies. It's not my fault I yawn like 500 times every time I learn this subject. It's just a coincidence.
I went to the mirror nearby. What is everyone hiding from me?
I went to my closet before pulling out a towel. I haven't even showered yet. I must've smelled awful which was probably why Gale looked so amused. If they're actually who they say they are, they must have special abilities like heightened senses of smell and sound right? I cringed just thinking about it.
I opened the door to the bathroom and took the longest shower in my whole history of showers.
I wrapped the towel around my body before exiting the bathroom. To my immense surprise, Charles was laying on top of my bed, looking like he owned the place. Which he technically did but this is my room now.
I glared at him. "GET OUT OF MY BED!" I yelled.
He grinned mischievously before complying. Now he stood a few feet away from me. I had both hands on my towel, hoping not to make any part drop being the klutz I am.
"We need to talk," He said looking quite serious.
I scoffed. "No shit, sherlock."
"Who?" He asked, looking confused.
I gave an exasperated sigh before mumbling, "You watch way too little movies."
I went over and opened my closet. Before releasing my towel, I turned to him and said with an even fiercer glare, " Turn around."
He raised an eyebrow before turning around. I dropped my towel and changed into a nightgown.
As Charles turned back to me, I noticed his eyes darken slightly before shifting back to its normal color. I felt my cheeks reddened before trying to erase the tension by asking, "What do you want to talk about?"
He looked at me for a moment before replying, " You shouldn't try to escape. Who knows what danger you'll get yourself into."
"Says the person who kidnaps me," I said sarcastically. "For your information, I will never stop trying to find a way to escape."
"So stubborn," He groaned. "Even if you do succeed, how do you propose you'll survive in the land of the fae."
I rolled my eyes. "Maybe I'll go find the tooth fairy and she'll wave her magic wand and return me back to earth." I tried to say this with a serious tone but ended up chuckling at the end. Now it was Charle's turn to roll his eyes.
"Besides," I continued, " I wouldn't know how to escape if I don't try."
He cleared his throat. "Actually you did try and you failed." His teasing tone starting making me feel angrier by the second.
"And whose fault was that," I snapped.
He raised an eyebrow. "Are you suggesting that this is all my fault?"
"Yes!" I said furiously. "You were the one who kidnapped me in the first place and who knows what my mom is doing right now. She could be working hard to put posters around my neighborhood or call the police or even call the freaking major of our town." I stopped my ramble as soon as I heard a knock at the door.
"Excuse me miss, I brought your dinner," my maid from earlier poked her head out from the side of the door, carrying a dinner tray. Her eyes slid from mine to Charles and then back at me. She raised an eyebrow before putting the tray at the side of my bed and curtsying at Charles. She escaped the room as soon as she could not before wiggling her eyebrows in a teasing manner at me. I rolled my eyes at her.
I shooed Charles out of my room with a request to talk tomorrow. I was starving because I didn't eat anything for lunch.
I looked hungrily at the food before attacking. I probably finished it in a world record or something. I gave a happy sigh as I finished everything and I mean everything, on the tray. No tiny piece of food was left. The bowls and plates were as clean as can be.
My maid, Lily, came back into my room to take the tray back and was astonished to see that nothing was left behind. After introducing myself to her as "Selene" and making her promise not to curtsy anymore, she left the room with an amused smile on her face.
As I laid sleeping that night, I couldn't help but ponder the same question that enlightened my brain.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What do you guys think the question is? There are plenty to choose from but one of them is the most significant to the story. Happy guessing! Please don't forget to vote and comment. Thanks a lot :)
