Chapter 2
Selena's POV
I groaned as I sat up on my bed. Wait... bed?! I looked around my surroundings. Blue wallpaper, a desk, a closet, and two doors. One might be the bathroom. I rubbed my head and yawned as last night's events hit me hard. I immediately face-palmed myself. I looked outside my window. That's odd... I don't recognize this setting at all.
I heard the sound of a door opening before a maid poked her head in. "Good morning miss," she said, curtsying as she did so. My jaw dropped.
"You don't need to curtsy," I said, waving my hands in front of me. "I'm not royalty."
She looked confused for a moment before she spoke again. "My master wants you to join him for breakfast." Breakfast?
I looked down at myself. I was wearing a nightgown. "Could I go like this?" I asked. She hesitated.
"There are plenty of clothes for you to choose from in your closet miss," she finally said before exiting the room. Closet?
I hurried to the closet. Who knew how much time her master was going to give me. I picked the first thing that I saw which were a dark blue blouse and long black pants.
As I stepped outside my room I could see several staffs hurrying down the hall. There a couple of guards stationed outside my room. I went to the nearest person.
"Excuse me," I cleared my throat to get his attention. The guard was wearing a knight-like helmet so I couldn't really see his face. "Could you tell me where the dining room is?"
The guard barely moved, at least, not where I could see. I gave a sigh of frustration. Where the heck am I suppose to look for the dining room? Just as I was about to give up and retreat to my room, a deep voice echoed from behind me, "If we're going to have breakfast together we might as well go together since you can't seem to find the way."
It was the stranger from last night! He was still wearing his mask though. I pursed my lips and looked down at my expensive watch which was given by my father on my previous birthday. Good thing that he didn't steal this, I thought. But he doesn't look like the type to steal either. To my immense horror, it was almost 11 am. Have I slept that long?
Seeing my shock face he continued with a smirk, "or should I say brunch?" All I could do was stare as he turned on his heel and walked away. I assumed he wanted me to follow me so that's exactly what happened. He probably didn't kidnap me. Maybe he mistook me for the way I look? He did save me so I have to thank him. He'll probably let me go back to my home. I was so preoccupied with my thoughts that I didn't notice when we stopped in front of a huge double-door.
Suddenly the door just opened, as if the stranger from last night just opened them with his mind?! I immediately shook away the thought with a slight shiver. Someone probably just opened it for him from the inside, right?
Apparently not, since when we got inside, there were only the two of us. Not a single soul to be seen. In the middle of the room was a huge oval-like shaped table with at least 12 chairs seated from around. He sat at the head at the table and beckoned for me to sit beside him. I complied, unsure what else to do. I watched him wearily as he rested his chin on top of his hands as he brought both elbows up.
"Why did you bring me here?" I finally blurted out loud. I ignored the surprised look on his face and crossed my arms. He waited a moment before answering.
"You were conscious so I brought you back here," He said, shrugging his shoulders. There was a hint of dishonesty behind his words so I knew there was something he wasn't telling me.
"You're lying," I said in a flat tone.
He looked up with a cold smirk, "How do you know I'm lying?"
I mentally scolded myself.
"I just know," I muttered mostly to myself but I knew he could hear.
I started to observe him. He was a handsome man no doubt but there was something about him that wasn't like anyone I've ever come across before. His ears were slightly pointier like an elf and his eyes were slightly more narrow than a human being. He was taller beyond an average man and though he had a slight British accent I could tell he wasn't from anywhere I knew.
"Who are you?" I asked, glad that my voice did not shake.
His eyes narrowed even more, "That is for me to keep to myself and for you to find out."
Huh, he completely closed off. What, is he a descendant of God or something? I raised an eyebrow, "I don't get to know my kidnapper's name?"
He gave a sigh of frustration. "No, and I did not kidnap you," His voice was firm and determined, almost as if he was trying to convince himself. I gritted my teeth.
"Then are you going to let me go?" I asked even though I knew the answer before he told me.
"No." At that moment, waiters came swiftly out of nowhere, and as quick as they could, they served us brunch. We both had the same, omelet with sausage and bacon with fresh-squeezed orange juice with pulp and yogurt for dessert.
"If you're not going to free me then you are a kidnapper," I said after taking a sip from my orange juice. He looked up, amused.
"Why did you bring me here?" I asked again, anger rising in me.
"Believe it or not, you were meant to come here," He said, his eyes observing mine as if he could actually read the emotions swirling in my eyes.
I let out a frustrated sigh.
"You were meant for so much more Mendell." He smirked.
How the hell did he know my freakin' last name?
