Chapter 15 - Sang

Another good Academy fanfic is 'Wild Desperation' by Puppies59. I lover her version of Sang and it's a really good read.

XxXxXxXxXx

I am in Michigan for my summer break at a cottage. It's awesome here but the internet connection sucks. This means that the updates will be more random and sporadic than usual (I won't be updating every day).

Sang

I try to come up with a lie on the spot, "Well, you see . . . I'm here because . . . of a . . . favor?"

There is a good reason that I am an assassin and not a con woman. Unless I have time to prepare, I am a bad liar. I just can't think of anything convincing to say and I usually blurt out the truth. But I can't do that here. If I did, things wouldn't go well. It would be like, yes I am an assassin and I kill people for a living but don't worry I was forced to.

Yeah, no, that's something else to put on the list of bad ideas. It's up there with setting someone on fire because they are annoying you. Marcus keeps staring at me and it is starting to stress me out. If my enemies could see me now, best killer on this side of the Earth terrified of answering a single question. My reputation would die.

"Well. . ." Marcus interrupts my inner monologue.

I look around, "I'm serious, I owed someone from the Academy a favor, so I'm here."

Another man stepped up next to Marcus, "Take off your mask and then we can talk."

I give him an are-you-kidding look, "Why would I do that?"

Marcus hisses at him, "This isn't the time, James. At least she was talking to me some."

I make fun of him, "Yeah, James, fuck off."

James turned towards me, "How do you know my name?"

I shrug, "You can't whisper well, Marcus said it."

He tried to intimidate me, "You are not in a position to negotiate."

I look at my nails, pretending to be bored, "How many of your men died today?"

Marcus frowns, still confused, "No one."

I add, "How many would have died if I hadn't helped you and been on the opposite side."

He admits, "More."

I lean against the wall, "From my perspective, it seems like you guys owe me a favor. Who is your Team anyway?"

Three more men came over and started a whispered conversation with Marcus and James as well. It was funny to watch them squirm. They were probably older than me, but they were scared. I mean I would be too if I had seen someone take out a lot of people. From their view, I killed without remorse. Little did they know that when I finally get out of this mess and the adrenaline wears off, I will probably go have a panic attack followed by night terrors. But some things need to stay secret.

Unknown man commented loudly enough for me to hear, "She can't be trusted. The bird is just working for the Albanians and is waiting for an opportunity to kill us."

Unknown man 2 added, "We don't know anything to make any judgement."

I call out, "For the record, most of us aren't albanian here. Just Boss was, well I guess my dead Boss."

Unknown Man 3 stared at me, "That you killed."

I sigh, "If I didn't kill him, he would have killed me."

Marcus says, "We could have got information from him."

I had to laugh, "Boss was very stupid, there was a reason that he didn't have many ressources. His second was only slightly smarter."

James frowns, "How do you know so much about them if you are Academy? This just proves that you are with them and against us."

I was starting to get frustrated with the stubborn assholes, so I lifted the back of my shirt, "You see these scars. These people gave them to me. DO you really think I have any loyalty towards them?"

I heard them shift around to get a look at my back and several winces. A couple of them whistled. I knew it wasn't pretty. I hadn't had a chance to let them heal and I probably reopened them while I was running. Sean was going to be so fucking pissed. I am not looking forward to that lecture if I get out of here.

I pull my shirt back down, "Is there any chance that you can forget you saw me and say I died?"

Marcus shakes his head, "No can do."

I sit on the floor, "Then you might as well kill me now."

James was even more confused at this point than usual, "Before, all you wanted was to live and run away. Now, you want to die."

I explain some, "It's not like I want to be here. But if you take me to your employers, word will get back to the top of the Mob and they will come for me."

Marcus tries to reassure me, "We're the Academy, we can keep you safe. It's the government after all, not a criminal organization. You can trust the government."

I snort, "If you truly trust the government, then you failed history class."

Unknown Man 2 asked, "You said you knew someone in the Academy. If you do and you can prove that you truly were on assignment, we can call them."

I look at him, "I don't even know your name, but I know that you don't trust me and think I would be better off dead."

James chuckles, "She can see right through you Brian."

Unknown Man 2, Brian, shoved his brother, "Fuck off, man."

Marcus turns to me and says seriously, "We have to bring you back with us to the hospital where we were told told to bring survivors. I am going to pat you down to get your weapons."

He tries to approach me and I slide out my dagger, "Come any closer and it's going to be off with your head."

Everyone else froze and Brian shook his head, "I knew you were trouble."

I let out a grim chuckle, "If you lived my life, you would be the same. I am not about to give up any of my weapons."

James takes a step closer to me, "We can't let you walk around armed."

I try to negotiate, "If I give them up, will you not pat me down and give them back at some point?"

Unknown man 1 snorts, "Why would we give them back?"

I hug my dagger protectively, "This shit is expensive. You might have the government pay for your stuff, but I don't. And you just killed the people who gave me this."

Marcus considers it, "Leave her alone, Lane. And little bird, that's a deal. Once you can prove you are not a public risk, we will return your weapons."

I sigh and start to disarm myself. I take out the numerous guns I have hidden, then the daggers, followed by the smaller knives. I grab the ninja star from my boot and everything else. I pile them in front of me and it makes a pretty sizable pile. I'm not kidding when I say that I'm armed to the teeth.

Unknown Man 1 who is now Lane stared at me, "You have all that?"

I shrug and then take out two more knives and a gun while Marcus adds, "Are you finished?"

I shake my head and pull out one tiny ass knife, "Now, I'm done."

James just stares at me, "How can you carry all of that around?"

I smirk, "I'm talented."

They begin to pick up my weapons. They don't need to know about the knife still hidden in the heel of my boot. Or the lock picking tools hidden in my clothes. Or the poison I have hidden to kill them or me. Some things are better not to share. I'm pretty sure Marcus knows I'm still armed, just less so. If he does, he doesn't say anything.

James walks up to me, "Due to the fact that you are unwilling to show your face or give more information about yourself, we have to treat you like a prisoner. Because of your knowledge of the Academy, we will bring you with us instead of giving you to the police. If you want out of this, you have to give us someone who can vouch for you inside the Academy."

They left me alone for a bit to ponder my problem as they secured the perimeter. Of course, I wasn't alone. There were five other guys there, but I didn't know them. Now, it's time to consider my options. I can't run. I could tell them that Owen sent me here and have him bail me out. Isn't Uncle Academy as well or Erica? No, Erica isn't Academy, she just knows about it. But doesn't she work in a hospital?

I ask one of the men who was close, "Where will you bring me?"

He grunted, "To headquarters."

I roll my eyes, "Like the hospital?"

He just grunts again. Rude much? I might not have perfect manners, but I talk a lot. When you are holding someone prisoner, I should be given rights. Like Miranda rights? That's a thing, isn't it? I'm allowed to have a phone call to my lawyer. I don't need to tell them about Owen, I could call him and pretend that's my lawyer. That will work. Unless they refuse to give me a phone call because I could call the Albanians and tell them everything. I could do that, but then I would never be free. I need Owen to make everyone say that I died.

Marcus and his team finally return to the room, "Ian, have you called the Academy yet to report?"

Unknown Man 3, now Ian, shakes his head, "Dr. Roberts wanted it to be done in person."

I speak up, "Since you are the government, don't I have rights? Like a right to a lawyer?"

James nods, "Technically yes."

I stand up, "Then, I would like a phone to call a lawyer."

Brian glares at me, "How do we know that you won't call the Albanians and get us all killed?"

I glare right back at him, "Because I killed more of their men than you did and I don't want to get killed."

Marcus hands me a phone, "Relax, I trust her." Not your best decision Marcus, but it works in my favor.

I quickly dial Owen's number and he answers immediately, "Astrology."

I snort, "Seriously, I'm not." I have to avoid using my name or his for this.

Owen shoots a bunch of questions, "Darling? Are you alright? What happened? Whose phone are you calling from?"

I shush him, "I fucked up and got myself caught. I am going to need extraction at the hospital as my lawyer." I'm pretty sure Marcus figured out that whoever I was talking to wasn't my lawyer because he was coming towards me.

Owen was talking, "We can get everyone there soon. . ."

I cut him off, "I think I pissed one of them off. Come soon!"

I stop the call and delete it from the history. None of them seem to be tech savvy, so that should stop them from calling the number again. Marcus took the phone back from me rather aggressively, "I hope that was your lawyer because that was the only time you are getting a phone."

I smirk, "It's a sort of lawyer."

Brian crossed his arms, "Told you she was up to no good hiding her face like that."

James questioned me, "What were you doing here? It was clear that this is not where you want to be."

I shrugged, "No choice."

Marcus comments, "You could have gone to the police."

I snort, "And get killed? I like living too much for that."

Brian pressed me, "You sided with us instead of killing us. Why? What was your escape plan?"

I roll my eyes, "Didn't have one."

Lane frowned, "So you just winged it."

I stay silent and Ian sighs, "You are so far the only person I know that can make silence sarcastic."

Brian ignores his brothers, "You must have some sort of plan. You seem to controlled or calculated to do things on a whim." He continued on in this vein for quite a while. We made it to their car, into the car with me handcuffed with him still talking.

In the end, I give him up staying silent, interrupted his talking while a daring smirk came across my face, "Escape plan? When no one is left, walk out the front door."

That shut him up.
