Chapter One: Secret Entrance
(Hello humans! Lunar here. So this is my first story on Wattpad. I apologize in advance if my story ends up unfinished, or if it is generally trash. Also, the art and characters are not mine. Anyway, I hope you enjoy, my Lunarlings!)
Y/N ran past her house with tears in her eyes. In her hands she clutched a single buttercup, but it was dying fast. Too many feet had already crushed it on the hot pavement that was the street. Maybe, just maybe, there was a flicker of hope. It wasn't dead yet—she could sense it. But perhaps the place was too far away...
Y/N felt her shoulders relax slightly as the deep valley came into view. She stumbled down the sides in her rush to save the flower, but she hardly noticed. Her determination increased dramatically.
Y/N finally made it to the bottom of the steep valley and ran to the expanse of buttercups in the center of it. She panted, clearly in exhaustion and overexertion, but she didn't let it stop her. Y/N planted herself (pun INTENDED) at the edge of the patch, then hurriedly started digging a hole in the dirt. She laid the nearly-dead buttercup gently in the hole, and buried it. She laid a hand over the top of the dirt pile. Closing her eyes, she imagined a light coming from deep within her, making its way through her blood, into her hand, and seeping into the ground where the wilted flower pitifully lay buried.
Y/N slowly opened her eyes, and saw the fruits of her labor. A fully alive buttercup stood tall and proud at her fingertips. She smiled, although she was more tired than she'd been in days. Using her...abilities wore her out a lot, but at least she had control of it. Y/N thought back to when she didn't have control...
She was walking down the street, six years old, clinging to her mother's hand as if her life depended on it. Of course, it didn't, but she loved her mom dearly. She couldn't imagine her life without her...
Anyway, they saw a lady standing on the sidewalk, staring blankly ahead of her. There was something wrong, Y/N could tell.
She let go of her mom's arm to place her hand upon the lady's in an attempt to reassure her.
"It's okay," she remembered whispering to her. "You'll be alright, I promise."
Although she couldn't see it, the air had started vibrating with faint white energy as the healing took place.
The woman's eyes started clearing from the fog that was there before. After a moment, the woman blinked, and she looked sane. Her mouth curved into a gentle smile. "Thank you, child. Thank you for helping me."
Y/N nodded, satisfied, before returning to her mother's side like she had never left. As she walked, she felt herself get weaker and weaker, until she was on the verge of unconsciousness and couldn't stand up anymore. She passed out in her mother's arms, and nearly died that day, all because she had no idea: A. the limits of her strength and B. what pushed her powers to the limits.
Y/N snapped out of the memory, and found herself staring at a medium-sized hole in the ground a few feet in front of her, in the middle of the patch. Being the one who discovered it, she knew exactly what it was: a secret entrance to the Underground. Y/N didn't know for certain, but she had a sense that it was. And when she sensed something, she was never wrong. Never wrong.
Oftentimes, she tried to imagine what it might be like down there. There must be some sort of light, because you needed light to see. Y/N could picture a night sky painted to the top of the cave with glow-in-the-dark star stickers.
She giggled to herself. That probably wasn't how it was, but it was still funny to picture.
A startling thought occurred to her. What if I just...fell in? The notion intrigued her, for some reason, and she toyed with the thought before she snapped back from her daydream. You can't do that! Once you fall, you can't get back up!
Y/N abruptly stood, and started speed-walking away. That hole was changing her. She could tell.
