Chapter Fourteen: The Surface, and a New Beginning
(Okay, before the story ends, I have to thank all of you for over 200 reads. I'm glad that my first story on Wattpad has gained in popularity. Also, if you want a sequel, don't be afraid to ask for one. And thank you. So much.)
"Ready?" Sans asked me. I took a deep breath.
It's been a few weeks since I almost gave up my soul. Since then, Chara has made her reveal to the world for the first time in forever. Sans seemed slightly suspicious at first, but he was quickly convinced otherwise. Frisk embraced her like she was an old friend. Maybe she used to be.
With her, Chara dragged the King and Queen's son, Prince Asriel Dreemurr. His parents had hugged him in tears once they had discovered what had happened. Also, Asgore and Toriel decided to get back together after I had explained to her his motives and what he had done for me (which was how he was willing to do anything for his people and that he almost spared me, but I had convinced him otherwise).
A week or so ago, Chara had explained to us how my soul, with the many traits I had inside me—including MERCY and HOPE (not SACRIFICE, as I had originally thought)—could break the barrier. She warned me that it would be the most taxing thing I had ever done, and I responded that I would be ready when the time came. Now, a week after that, I felt mentally ready for what was coming.
"Ready," I answered, taking Sans' hand in my own. I looked into his eyes, and saw that he was nervous and scared of what could happen to me. I had told him about the incident that happened when I was younger (referring to Chapter One), and now it only seemed to exaggerate his fears.
I wrapped him in a hug. Over his shoulder, I said, "Sans, I can do this. My soul and I are strong enough to handle this. I just need your faith. Can I please have it?"
Slowly, I felt him return the hug. "Fine, N/N (nickname). You have my faith."
I smiled. "That's more like it. And don't worry. I'll have the barrier down in no time."
I grabbed Sans' hand once again, and we took a shortcut to the barrier. Everyone was waiting for us—well, me. I waved. All the monsters waved back. Those that could, anyway.
Undyne ran up to me, picked me up all of a sudden, and hustled through the crowd. "MOVE OUT OF THE WAY!" she yelled. "VIH COMING THROUGH!"
The monsters parted for us—and by us I mean her—and we—and by we I mean she—ran up to our group. Our group consisted of: Frisk, Papyrus, Sans—who had teleported there—Alphys, Undyne, Mettaton, a ghost guy I had met in the Ruins named Napstablook, Asgore, Toriel, Chara, and Asriel.
I just managed to get out a 'hi' before Undyne set me in front of the barrier and ordered, "Start breaking."
In front of me, the barrier glowed a dim white. It revealed the outside world, but it was like glass. It would never let anyone leave.
Anyone...except me.
I looked over at Chara for a hint of guidance. She nodded, indicating that I already knew everything. I took a deep breath, and started on my work.
I closed my eyes, and expanded my mind's eye. In front of me, the barrier wasn't a wall, but more like a hand-stitched tapestry. I reached out for the threads, and using my trait magic, let them absorb white—MERCY—almost like they were feeding off my energy. I felt myself get weaker, but I focused on the task at hand.
I touched a single white strand with a random color—I picked out cyan for PATIENCE—and the weave drew back, revealing a rip in the barrier. I smiled to myself. Progress.
Slowly, but surely, I gave the barrier MERCY then showed it my traits. The barrier succumbed to the MERCY it was infused with, and it started to break. Finally, after a decent sized doorway was unstitched, I channeled my HOPE into an attack—a diamond whip that would show MERCY what defeat was. Swinging it around my head, I let the momentum fly as the tip of the whip cracked the barrier. And with that, it shattered into fragments of MERCY—for good.
I opened my eyes to see my handiwork. I could no longer see the glaze that obscured the world from view—it simply wasn't there. Instead, I could see the world in front of me with beautiful clarity. I hadn't seen the surface in close to half a year. I took it all in—the water-color sights, the gentle sounds, the smell of pine. It was heaven.
I glanced behind me, at the monsters simply in awe of what they were seeing. Sans made his way next to me. He wasn't looking at the world—no, he was looking at me with pride and pure happiness glittering in his eyes.
"I had faith," he whispered. "I knew you could do it."
I smiled at him. "Of course, Sans. I had to do it...for you."
Almost as if on cue, we both turned toward the sunrise, and toward the whole new world that awaited us.
THE END
(So? How'd I do? Even if I did terribly, I'm glad that you came along for the ride. It honestly means the world to me, and I couldn't ask for more. Thank you guys so much for reading. And as always, I'll see you in the next book. Buh-bye!
