Getting the Gang Back Together
(Dipper's PoV)
I stretched my arms above my head as I woke, stretching my back muscles by arching it. I was still laying down as I stretched and my eyes were still closed. I stopped stretching and let the sun shine down onto my face, smiling softly at its warm beams. I took a deep breath in and froze as I felt my blankets move across my chest. The events that had happened the night prior all came flooding back to me.
I bolted up into a sitting position and looked around my room. The floating, yellow, triangular, sadistic dream demon that goes by the name of Bill was no longer in my room and not even a trace of him could be found. I quickly glanced at my phone to see if he left a message on it but nothing was there and its screen was still dark in sleep mode.
I got up and out of my bed going to my wardrobe to see if my clothes had returned which they had. I let out a sigh of relief at this fact, happy that Bill wasn't going to have me nude for twenty-four hours and just through the night. I selected a black Theory of a Deadman hoodie with the Scars and Souvenirs logo on it. I matched that with some washed out, ripped, blue skinny jeans and some black Converse.
I walked downstairs to see what everyone else was doing. It appeared that Soos's grandma was knitting, Soos was attending to the cash register, Grunkle Stan was swindling people of their money, and I assume Grunkle Ford was in the basement working on some sort of experiment or cataloging what he had found. I walked into the kitchen and grabbed an apple to eat, not wanting what happened last night to happen again. I figured Bill couldn't be in my mind currently since he had drained more of his power to bring my clothes back while I slept.
I glanced at the clock on the wall as I took a bite out of my apple to see that it was 10:28. I walked out of the kitchen and ate more of my apple. I think I'm going to go see how Mabel's friends are doing today since I've nothing better to do since I can't exactly go into the basement without people noticing at the moment.
I walked out of the Mystery Shack while waving goodbye to Grunkle Stan and Soos and made my way towards town. I honestly didn't think ahead of time as to how I would find Candy, Grenda, and Pacifica, but I'm sure me wandering around I should eventually find one of them. I looked around town and it seemed to have really been rebuilt nicely. When I reached town square it appeared that they had built a fountain with water pouring out of some birds mouths that were sitting in a tree. The birds appeared to be coated in copper and the tree coated in silver. The rest of the fountain appeared to be made out of a black marble. I'm sure the Northwest family had something to do with its building.
I walked around the fountain and saw a girl with straight, platinum blonde hair wearing some blue jeans and a light purple dress shirt with a sweetheart neckline that appeared to be very expensive and some light purple heels with what appeared to be diamonds embedded into them. I could recognize that rich clothes taste from anywhere.
"Pacifica, is that you?" I asked the girl. She looked up from her book and had a polite smile on her face. Then it contorted to a face of pure joy and surprise when she recognized who I was.
"Is that a Dipper Pines I see in front of me?" Pacifica questioned me standing up and setting her book down on the edge of the fountain.
"The one and only," I confirmed opening my arms up to give her a hug. She walked the brief distance between us and accepted the hug.
"I thought we'd never see you again, Dipper," Pacifica commented as she pulled away from the hug. "Where's Mabel? I've been dying to see her again since she said she had a surprise to show me."
Of course she cares about Mabel more than you. You'll never matter to someone more than her. You'll never matter to anyone. I shook my head slightly dismissing the thought. "She's still in Cali. She'll be here in about two weeks. She had some business to attend to before coming like her graduation party and some other family and friend events."
"Why didn't you guys share a graduation party?" Pacifica asked confused. "You guys did everything together when you were last here."
"We kind of had a falling out a year after we left. She went her way and I went mine," I explained, rubbing the back of my neck. No way was I going to let Pacifica know that my family had basically disowned me and that I didn't even have any friends to invite to the party.
"Well I'm sure you had at least one for yourself right? At least a small get together with your friends before you all part ways," Pacifica pressed. I guess she picked up on the slight hollowness my voice had taken when talking about Mabel.
I shrugged my shoulders. "Not really. I didn't feel like doing anything for it. Not like it's that important anyway."
Pacifica gasped and put her hand to her chest. "Of course it's important. You finally graduated high school after the twelve years of torture they put you through. We are celebrating tonight. We can have a small thing if you like just us, Candy, Grenda, and anyone else that you'd like to invite. We can even have it over at my place."
"That sounds nice. Just the five of us," I agreed, smiling softly.
"Who's the other person you'd like to come, Dipper" Pacifica asked, softness in her voice. "Is it some girl you like?"
"Did I say five, I meant four. I guess I got used to saying five for our group with Mabel is typically there and all," I tried to cover up, my face blushing slightly at the thought that I had automatically included Bill in. You're so stupid. Do you want to lose their pity or something? Of course Bill can't come. He tried to kill them.
"Dipper, you can have come whoever you like. We won't judge you if it's a guy, girl, human, or nonhuman. We care about you and you should at least celebrate graduating with company you enjoy," Pacifica consoled, trying to make it seem okay for whoever I wanted to come come.
"I wouldn't necessarily say I enjoy his company. More like he's an annoying gnat that follows me around everywhere," I elaborated, but not really giving too much info as to who it is.
"Then where would this annoying gnat be if he follows you everywhere?" Pacifica teased, picking her book up off the edge of the fountain.
"He had some plans for today, I guess. I'm sure he'll pop up again this afternoon or in the evening. Haven't really had a moment of peace with him around. Heck for all I know he could be watching what I'm doing now," I complained some. "Though he does seem to care about me, some."
"How would he be watching you now if he's working on his plans?" Pacifica asked, confused as to what I mean. "He'd have to be able to get in your head in some way like a dream demon."
My face paled when she said dream demon giving away who it was, but I tried to cover it up. "Dream demons don't exist anymore ever since Bill died. He was basically the last of his species."
"Dipper, you're obviously hiding something and it's obviously related to Bill. What is it?" Pacifica interrogated, but she had a sort of softness in her voice.
I sighed, knowing she wouldn't stop until I told her. "Bill came back. Now before you say anything, he doesn't have as much power as he did before. He can look into people's dreams and what they're doing but he can't tamper with the dream or control them. The most he can do is make a whole wardrobe of clothes disappear and then he has to wait a few hours for his power to regenerate to bring them back. He seems to have really changed. Hell he even cares on whether or not I eat."
Pacifica stood there for a moment, taking in all the information I had just told her. "How long has he been back?"
"He's been back basically since Grunkle Stan got his memory back, but he's been hiding out not wanting to be killed and wanting to see me again. He's really changed, I swear." I defended him also trying not to make myself weak.
Pacifica smiled at me softly. "If you think he's really changed then he can come. I trust your judgement on character Dipper. Also, you are so eating at my house."
I laughed slightly knowing she was completely serious in making me eat at her house. "I will. Want to meet me back here in an hour? I'll go and grab some clothes and see if I can find Bill?"
"Sure, but if you're not here in an hour we're marching to your house and dragging you out of there," Pacifica threatened.
"That's fine by me," I laughed, a grin sprawled across my face as we parted.
(I'd like to thank college for basically making me write this chapter and basically the next due to having nothing to do in class.)
