Chapter 16
Megan's POV
Ashton and Ellen had just gotten home that morning and were both fast asleep upstairs in their room.
Michael and I had taken it upon ourselves to get their house ready for baby Della's arrival, putting up 'Baby Girl' banners and decorating her room with yellow and green ornaments.
She was now nestled in Michael's arms, fast asleep. He looked down at her with such adoration that it made my heart melt.
"I want one," He whispered through the silence, and I about choked on the water I was sipping.
"A kid?" I asked him with wide eyes and he nodded, glancing up at me with a small smile.
"I don't know if we're ready just yet Mike. I'm not saying never but please don't get your hopes up that it will be soon," I sighed, kissing his cheeks before getting up to begin making lunch.
"Ok," Was all he said, his shoulders falling down in defeat as he still held Della in his arms.
"We'll get Ellen and Ashton up when it's done," I told him as I made my way into the kitchen, deciding to make soup and sausage rolls since there was the ingredients to make them.
I set to work, quickly making them and tidying up after myself before putting the sausage rolls in the oven to cook and the soup on the stove to heat up.
"Do you want to take her while I go and wake the proud parents up?" Michael asked me as I walked into the living room once more and I took little Della into my arms with a smile, sitting down in Michael's previous spot.
She was looking up at me with big hazel eyes that had flecks of green in them, and a few whisps of caramel curls on her head. She was such a mixture of Ashton and Ellen that it was no doubt they were both the parents of this beautiful little girl.
"That's mummy and daddy coming now to see you," I told her as I heard feet come down the staircase, Michael entering the room once more with Ellen and Ashton in toe.
"Where's my little one?" Ellen yawned as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes and I gently stood up as to not unsettle Della.
"Here she is," I smiled as I passed her onto Ellen, who's face became a look of utter adoration as she looked down at her small child in her arms, smiling at her.
"If you want to sit down, I made some lunch," I told her and Ashton who gladly sat down at the dinner table, Della resting in a newborn chair In between the new parents.
I got the food, dishing it out before giving everyone their own bowl and plate, before setting a warmed up bottle of baby formulae down for Della to have if she was hungry.
"Thank you so much for this, Megan," Ashton smiled before tucking in and I waved it off, mentioning that they would do the same if Michael and I were in their position.
We were soon finished, Della being the perfect little angel she is and not disrupting whatsoever.
"We'll leave you three to it, and remember just call if you need us," Michael smiled and Ellen and Ashton both nodded, hugging each of us before we left.
The car ride home was deafeningly silent, and I timidly followed Michael into the house, unable to form a sentence.
"I'm sorry," I said after a few moments as he switched on the light switch, and I kept my eyes trained to my feet on the ground, unable to look into his eyes which I knew would be filled with sadness.
"There's nothing to be sorry about. We're on different wave lengths for one little thing but that shouldn't hinder us," He crouched so his face was below mine and he was looking into my eyes as I gave him a small nod.
"One day," I said quietly as I wrapped my arms around his waist, burying my head into his chest.
"One day," He repeated, arms encircling me and holding me close.
